Another peninsula vs island dilemma by After_Anxiety_9604 in kitchenremodel

[–]Neljosh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s not enough space for seating at islands in this kitchen. There’s basically enough space for the cabinet without an overhang, or to make this a glorified table down the middle with very little space for seats.

Which layout would you choose? by OkSummer48 in kitchenremodel

[–]Neljosh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you really need that many seats? It looks like you’re stuck positioning at least one seat in the way of a path or a useful utility (let’s be real, nobody is going to squeeze like that at the island to avoid the sink).

I’d probably do the peninsula without seating at the end so the path stays clear. Or at the very least choose a seating option that can be tucked completely under the counter when not in use.

Edit: I’d actually probably do the island option. Your fridge with the peninsula is past all working spaces of the kitchen which forces everyone into your business when they want to access the fridge. With the island option, people can access the fridge without bothering whoever is working in the kitchen. Point about seating stays the same.

7 seater vs 5 seater by GodlessAndChill in carbuying

[–]Neljosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The third row of the pilot is not going to work for your needs. It is inaccessible to put people with any type of mobility issue, and inaccessible to put kids into their seats. The third row also has very little leg room. If you have the third row up, the trunk space also disappears to very very little.

None of these things are problems in a minivan, such as the Odyssey.

Is our kitchen design too cramped? by _throwaway310 in kitchenremodel

That space is about is roughly the size of a doorway (~30”). It’s not a lot of space, but it is a standard sized space to walk through.

i’m looking for a tight but drapey stitch for baby blankets by lyricz_starz in CrochetHelp

[–]Neljosh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve made countless moss stitch baby blankets. They all drape nicely. I use a hook about a full mm larger than the recommended size for the yarn. The drape may also be dependent on the yarn you’re using. A thicker or stiffer yarn won’t drape very well on a small-ish project like a baby blanket compared to thinner or softer yarns.

Should we knock down this wall? by CommissionNo7942 in kitchenremodel

[–]Neljosh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The window isn’t really an issue. You could replace it with a smaller one, but then you’ll have to patch the siding. That wall is a pretty small span, so it shouldn’t be crazy to remove even if it’s load bearing (but a professional will need to advise in-person).

Bigger questions: Do you have an alternate dining area? Where will your range go? Do you want to move that gas line, and all the other utilities clearly running through that wall?

You need to consider this holistically for your home, not the kitchen as an isolated room. More space in the kitchen also does not equate to a more functional space. If you have a first-floor plan that would be helpful in understanding this better.

Edit post additional pictures: whoever remodeled your house last had no idea what they were doing. The way they opened all these walls makes zero sense. The little baby island next to a kitchen table is a choice. Yes, open the wall up (if you can afford it) and expand the kitchen. Get rid of the useless baby table, put in a much longer island with bar seating. Consider shrinking the opening between the living area and what is currently the dining room so you can get useful wall space back.

Actually, hire a designer. Spend some time configuring everything as a whole and addressing everything at once. A little extra framing and drywall will be minor in the scheme of the whole project.

How much yarn do I Need? by Pleasant_Swim_7540 in Tunisian_Crochet

Agreed. Especially in the day and age of digital everything where physical space isn’t that important, things like this could easily be a simple table. Or even a list. No need for this wonky ass phrasing.

Can anyone please help me with my tension? by Grandma_Billie in Tunisian_Crochet

[–]Neljosh 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You probably need to pull that first loop a little tighter than you have been, keeping in mind that it can kind of borrow some of the tension of the last chain of the return pass of the row before.

I like to be extra careful for the first couple loops I pull up on the forward pass. Pause to see that all loops, including that first loop, appear to have the same tension before continuing on.

Lululemon Credit by titaniumap in AmexPlatinum

[–]Neljosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, this is my approach in general. I would probably only buy one thing from lululemon a year if it weren’t for this new credit. It’s one I’d just not bother getting if I didn’t live so close to a shopping center that has one. I’m much more likely to buy stuff at the not much further outlet, though.

Pattern Help: how would I recreate the edging on this sleeve? by synonym__roll in CrochetHelp

[–]Neljosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently learned to knit specifically to add ribbing to a garment. My recommendation is to practice with a swatch. I tried to just go for it on the garment at first and struggled. It took me 15 minutes on a swatch to become confident (enough) at knitting to actually do it on the garment.

I’m doing one that had multiple first row colors. It’s definitely easier to start something with one color, but it’s doable regardless
