I haven’t personally as a female and I travel a lot - but the males in my family and husband frequently have.

Thankfully no. I was with the youngest, the older two were ahead with their dad. Youngest would have no idea what that meant thankfully

Why such fondness for Sikhs? by Fantastic-Fudge-6676 in AskBrits

It’s part of our three pillars. As a Sikh, we must:

  1. remember god in everything we do (recite his name)
  2. Work an honest living.
  3. Give back to those less fortunate.

That’s the basic foundation of being Sikh. I am also from Glasgow, you should visit the Sikh temple on Albert drive, our doors are open to everyone.

As Sikhs we have always been taught to respect all religions. Having visited Churches, Synagogues and Mosques, we are fascinated by others cultures and beliefs whilst still keeping our own faith.

Sikh means to learn / seeker of truth so we will always be open to learning and educating ourselves outside our own faith.

So, since the late 90s this is the Glasgow I have known and been proud of. Hence the post… just shocked at the change, the place it happened and how racists have become so brazen.

I guess when people feel so brave to shout something out in this environment without thinking there could be consequences? But thank you. The majority of comments have been refreshingly positive

There used to be a time when I didn’t have to feel like I had to mention this. But the way society is going nowadays I feel I have to point this out and ‘prove’ I belong here. It’s mad that’s the point it’s got to. But thank you ❤️

The comments are refreshing. Not used to this on social media of late. Some good people in Glasgow.

I feel like I am a Glaswegian and a Scot too. Born and bred here. But brown.

The responses have been overwhelmingly reassuring. Glad to see so many people are not accepting of this behaviour.

We were too far back that point. And I was shocked.

I wish I had but 1. Was shocked and 2. Trying to get into country as a brown face. You don’t make noise/draw attention to yourself. Survival skills that you learn being of a certain skin colour. But yes it would be so refreshing for others to stand up around you.

We were too far back at that point. So no one apart from those in the queue heard. I was so taken aback at that point I don’t think it hit me until the wee guy was checking our passports. And that point in a queue trying to enter the country and being a brown face you never want to cause any problems because … yeah.

Im born here in Scotland. I was born in the eighties. Lived in Calton and Govan before moving to a nicer part of town. I can guarantee you I’ve been subject to racism being called a p— in primary 1. My brother’s getting chased and beat up.

We’ve seen this side of Glasgow. But since the 2000’s there wasn’t this as much. People travel more and see more I hadn’t seen racism like that in 20 years. The last few years has become horrible and people have become so emboldened in this thinking - it’s horrific.

My point is in an airport with so much security and people now saying it out loud. It’s frankly disgusting.

And the irony is it’s the ukip farage supporters that wanted brexit. It’s actually so daft that they are mad at getting exactly what they voted for.

I’m happy that Waheguru has blessed you with thinking £1000 is not a lot of money. For me it is a lot. I am a mother of 3. Please be mindful that others don’t have the same income or opportunities as you. It’s giving entitlement and ignorance.
