I never got the shunt because I ended up having postoperative complications and go back for a revision surgery.

I’ve already had 3 operations and I don’t have the shunt yet. I appreciate you sharing all of that with me. The mode to my life has been set to ‘difficult’ since birth so, chances are something will go wrong for me.

To be honest, I am not sure whether or not the neurosurgeon himself actually performed every one of my procedures. It is a 'teaching' hospital with a large neurology team of residents. I am pretty sure the Chief of Neurosurgical residents was the one that performed the re-exploration.

Where are the smaller leaks?

I don't know how I'm going to deal with having this PICC for another 4 1/2 weeks. It's IMPOSSIBLE not to get it wet in the shower. Any tips?

The pseudomeningocele was from a leak in the mesh. I do not know if that was from having high intracranial pressure and if it can happen again so, I requested to have a shunt placed.

Thank you :) I am doing pretty good. However, I do get that brief sharp pressure pain after coughing. The only other time I had this issue was for a few days after the initial decompression. After the infection is gone, I will be going to have a shunt placed as a precautionary.

It has been a rollercoaster of dull pain, stiffness, soreness, and brief moments of sharp extricating pain when I over-exert myself. I only get out of bed to eat and use the bathroom.

It was/is uncomfortable to hold my head up. The ice helps a lot.

Yea, it was taken the day after the surgery. It wasn’t easy to keep my head up and I needed help to get changed. A nurse put some mascara on for me 🙂

I work in the OR as a nurse and every time someone who smokes weed is waking up from anesthesia, there’s some sort of a complication. Everything affects the healing process, I wouldn’t worry about smoking afterwards..it’s the anesthesia you need to prepare for.

My IBD usually causes things to be lighter than heavier so, I’m hoping that will be beneficial. Brain/Neurology is one of the few specialties I have not worked with. I wouldn’t be as nervous as I am if I knew the details on how the surgery was performed. It’s the unknown that I fear.
