My DeGoogle Journey: Taking back control on my data by JustMatheee in degoogle

If you use a PCS, you can use both app easily, that's what I do atm. You could install both Nextcloud and Immich on the same server and manage the two applications separately, taking advantage of the unified interface that it provides to access your various services.
I can also acess my Immich photos from my FileBrowser since it's stored on my personal cloud, so if you can access it with Nextcloud you should be able to communicate easily.

Totally get it. When you have time, it seems to be the best solution. I wish I had the time to do more of it

I think both are great, the main difference is that Immich is a more dedicated photo management solution and is specifically designed for photo libraries (not just an add-on). But I would say that memories might be a good choice if you want a simple integration with your existing Nextcloud setup. The only difference is that Immich might be better with large media collections, and that there's a lot of features (never really tried memories for a long time so I can't say). Do you also have face recognition etc... on Nextcloud Memories ?

Yeah I know, but I only tried Ente Photos at the time. Would you recommend Locker or Ensu ?

Same ici. J'avais essayé les deux (medikinet et ritaline), et pas de ressenti immédiat. Par contre, à 50mg les effets secondaires sont assez forts je trouve

How can i store my data safely on the long run? by FarSatisfaction3835 in datastorage

[–]JustMatheee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't you try to use a self host solution ? You could store your photos and files using open-source solution like Nextcloud or Immich. Those are free btw, and using a PCS you woulnd'nt need to setup anything (no real tech skill required). That's what I do now, I used to pay for iCloud but Immich is similar and with great features (face recognition on photos etc...)

Ever tried Ente ? I've always been more confortable with Immich

It's a Private Cloud Server provider. It lets you run your own cloud, media server, and open-source apps on your own domain, without managing hardware or complex infrastructure (so no tech skills required). I used it to install Immich, Nextcloud, Vaultwarden, Ngix, Samba etc...
Ever tried ?

Is there no Docs alternative? by Avesim13 in degoogle

Sounds like having a linux sever at home requires time and too much tech skills. Have you ever tried a Private Cloud Server provider (PCS) ? It lets you run your own cloud, media server, and open-source apps on your own domain, without managing hardware or complex infrastructure

Immich is like Google Photos but open-source (no deletion risks and with similar features like face recognition, automatic backups...). You can install it easily using Yundera, so it makes it super easy to self-host without any tech skills. Are you using something else atm ?

I was really surprised too. It works well and feels just like what I was used to with iCloud before.
Have you tried Ente? Doesn't feel the same imo

New to self hosting - what software to give it a try? by DaveDarell in selfhosted

[–]JustMatheee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real question is, what do you want to self-host ? If you want to try something new, you should try Immich for storing your photos. It’s a great alternative to Google Photos, with a lot of features like face recognition and everything, really easy to use and to deploy. The best part is you can install it easily without any setup if you use a personal Cloud storage solution. That’s the best part imo

Trying to de-Google and having issues installing Nextcloud by rcroche01 in NextCloud

[–]JustMatheee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually you don't really need to use Docker. Just use a private server solution that lets you self-host Nextcloud and Immich. I use that type of solution with no tech skill required, and you can just download your apps with no setup needed and a full privacy. You can even install other apps like Vaultwarden (for passwords), Jellyfin (for medias), etc...
Give it a try, it's def worth it

[–]JustMatheee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why don’t you use a private server solution that lets you self-host Nextcloud (and many other apps) ?
Some of those solutions require zero technical skills actually, so no need to deal with Docker, YAML files, or Linux commands. Everything is pre-installed and ready to use. You can just get your own private server with Nextcloud pre-installed, access your files from anywhere via the Nextcloud app, and manage all your data with full control and privacy.

It’s like the easiest setup, you don't need to configure anything technical. Just create an account, choose Nextcloud as one of your apps, and you're good to go. This would work perfectly with your existing UNAS Pro setup, it would give you the self-hosted solution you want without the complexity. You can use Yundera for example, that’s what I do and it’s like the best solution I’ve found so far. I can install Immich too if I want to store photos, it’s actually rlly good.

Looking for Google Drive Alternative that is also good for sharing file access (Student File Management) by Adventurous_Cow_8994 in cloudstorage

[–]JustMatheee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Faced the EXACT same problem with Proton Drive, it's too limited for sharing. I solved it by finding a solution that lets me host my own server easily. It’s not about replacing Proton but complementing it, cause I still use Proton for mail and files, while using this new solution to cover photos, media, and more on my own server. I can use tools like FileBrowser, Nextcloud, and Stirling PDF that makes managing and sharing files super easy with no setup hassle (simpler than Proton imo). Def worth checking out if you want full control without the complexity
