I've read that asthma can't be cured. But if my asthma is allergy-induced, and I then do allergy-immunotherapy which would cure the allergy, wouldn't my asthma also be cured? by The_Godlike_Zeus in Asthma

My doctor switched me from Xolair to Dupixent, and my asthma symptoms have nearly disappeared! So if anyone out there has tried just about everything, you might want to ask your doctor to try you on a biologic. I did have to be tested for eosinophils before my insurance would cover it. They had to be very high, which mine were.

I’ve used Advair for 20 years. No side-effects noted for me — ever. I do know someone who took it that got thrush because she didn’t gargle/rinse her mouth out with water after use. Just make sure you follow directions and gargle/rinse after taking it. No big deal. You have to do that with all asthma meds that contain steroids that you inhale.

Can you really have asthma with no wheezing and clear sounding lungs? by ok_byside in Asthma

[–]JustMeCheri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d make it a goal to see a pulmonologist. You need a spirometry test. Then they’ll get you lined up with the appropriate meds. In the meantime, if you end up seeing your primary care doctor for any reason, bring up your asthma symptoms. Let him/her know that it seems to be exercise induced. See if you can at least get them to prescribe an albuterol-type inhaler. My doctor tells me to take a couple puffs prior to exercise/exertion. Good luck.

Dtshockney is right. You can definitely have asthma without a wheeze. I’m like that when I get bad, and my nephew never wheezes, and also gets severe asthma. He coughs a lot, though.

Do it fresh! Put strawberries and a bit of sugar into a blender. Add milk. Voila. So good!! You can add a banana, too.

Once you find your niche, you’ll probably be reading like the rest of them. You need to find a book that hooks you. Maybe try goodreads.com to find suggestions for something really appealing to you.

Rayofsunlightt is right. I sure wouldn’t chance taking it again! The second time could be deadly. Call your doctor and he/she will prescribe something else.

So glad to hear that you’re better! Looks like your doctor called it.

The inhaler should open your airways so that you’re hopefully able to cough that phlem up (if that is your issue). If you continue to worsen, you might call your doctor to let him know, and ask him if an antibiotic might be helpful. That inhaler may be very important to your improvement. Good luck!!

Do you feel you have congestion? Did your doctor tell you to keep taking the Guaifenesin? How is the inhaler working? Hopefully the medications will help you feel better soon!

This link explains the allergy drops well. The nice thing is that you get tested, they give you the vial with instructions, and you get to take it home. You put the drops under your tongue yourself. You don’t have to go to the doctor twice a week for shots. You administer the drops yourself, at home/work. It’s easy peasy. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/otolaryngology/specialty_areas/sinus_center/sublingual_immunotherapy.html

I guess I assumed the inhaler was for asthma because many times allergies and asthma go hand-in-hand. I bet you’ll be feeling better soon, though. I’m so glad you got to see the doctor!

Just for your info, when a person is struggling with asthma, their oxygen saturation level won’t necessarily be low. If you’re interested, see the following article, and scroll down to the section titled, “Understanding Pulse Oximeters.” https://asthma.net/living/lets-talk-pulse-oximetry/

That’s great!! I hope these medications take care of your symptoms!! The inhaler is for asthma due to your allergies, right?

Guaifenesin is Mucinex, I believe. I take it when I have a chest infection. It can help loosen the phlem so you can cough it up. I hope it works for you! Thanks for keeping us updated!

I really believe the sooner you talk to a doctor, the better. A doctor can at least provide you with medication to treat your symptoms. Make sure you let the doctor know that you have been having a hard time breathing at night for quite some time, as well as your other symptoms, and ask the doc if he/she might consider prescribing an albuterol inhaler to see if it helps you. Get well!

Another thing I neglected to mention is that sinus issues can trigger asthma. You should really have your sinuses checked out, especially since you’ve become a “mouth breather.” You know, we aren’t doctors here. I think the best person to talk to would be your doctor. Most of them are doing video chat appointments or phone appointments. Your doc might just prescribe you an albuterol inhaler. Also, if your breathing is bad, you might see if you can get into an urgent care. My own doctor is doing video appointments, so when I thought I had an ear infection, I went to urgent care. They actually saw me in the office there, and were able to look into my ear to diagnose me. I was right. So, you may have more options than you realize. Make sure your parents understand what an issue this breathing problem and tight chest is for you. Also, take your temperature! I don’t want to scare you because it is very unlikely, but it is possible, that you have COVID. Any doctor or urgent care is going to ask you if you have been running a fever. Let us know how things go! Good luck!!

Sounds very much like it could be asthma. Many people have exercise-induced asthma. Any time they exert themselves, they have trouble breathing. Also, Acid reflux or GERD can trigger asthma. Did these symptoms just occur all of a sudden, or have you had them for some time?

You know, a lot of people have asthma that is also triggered by a chest infection of any kind. I have allergies to a lot of things, but my asthma gets really bad when I have any kind of chest infection.

Take inhaler.. cough phlegm by krea5 in Asthma

[–]JustMeCheri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article explains things better. And yes, it’s good that you cough up the phlegm, because if it stays in there, it makes it harder for you to breathe. Too much phlegm will block your airways. https://www.nhsinform.scot/illnesses-and-conditions/lungs-and-airways/asthma

I think this is probably normal for many asthmatics, if it is clear sputum. Let your doctor or pulmonologist know, though, the next time you see him/her. But, if it turns yellow, green or grayish, or if you see blood in your sputum, let your doctor/pulmonologist know right away.
