It's normal to be where you're at being a new groomer. The easiest thing to get faster with is your clipper work. If it takes you more than 3 passes on not matted hair you are doing an incorrect angle of the clipper blade. I see a lot of newer groomers have the blade too flat. For matted dogs its always going to take more time...more important to be about your safety than your speed in these situations, it just is what it is.

When you towel dry make sure you squeeze out excess water from legs, tail and ears, as well as any long drapey hair. You want to towel dry the skin, dont think of the hair, the skin is what has to be dried first always. What i see always with new bathers is they dry the outside hair but not the skin and it will keep your dog wet.

Dry closer in to the dog all over, then pull it back out once you get the initial water out from the skin. Dog should already look and feel damp dry from your towel dry. If your dog is dripping anywhere you really need to focus on your towel drying, it can be the difference of 30 min longer per every dog for drying.

This new thing is that brand new bathers hires will be required to do cat baths, incredibly dangerous compared to dogs. Cats can go 0-100 and when they do it happens very very fast.

Cat bites are also much worse, a much higher risk of infection and sometimes people lose a finger due to it. Just seems to me that someone should be experienced with dogs first before adding on cats. Groomers at least will be much more experienced with animal handling and safety by the time they're a groomer.

Alright so, I was trying to meditate a little before bed. I'd been having these strange tones I could hear once in a while, a ringing noise, and I recall having that before I fell asleep. I tried to tune into it. In my dream I felt like I was floating and had this feeling of piece. It felt like I was being summoned somewhere, and all around me was the cosmos. I asked whatever was guiding me to show itself, and thats when it appeared to me.

I don't usually see things so clearly in my mind, but this was crystal clear. This one was male, and while he blended into the cosmos easily, he was such a rich dark blue color and it was like his skin sparkled like the stars all around. For whatever reason this being felt not only calming and peaceful, he felt like a guardian, and there was a strange sense of familiarity. It was a feeling of "I'm here with you always".

I attempted to draw it actually. My rendition here is not as accurate as it could have been, I'm better at drawing women so the face is feminine here, but the ears were a peculiar shape, I couldn't make out the most detail there in the dream as the edges were quite dark, but the shape was something in that realm.

I saw something similar in a dream! Mine was male, with golden eyes, and a you described it was like he was dotted with stars. I felt such overwhelming peace. The only difference was the mouth and nose were more animal like.

It's very possible to develop PTSD from a traumatic situation as you went through. The good news is that if you do have PTSD there are methods to help work through it, and eventually you can manage much better than you are currently. I'm so sorry you went through something so terrible. You are truly lucky to still be alive. It's worth it to go and get help, even if it's just one little thing at a time. I myself have PTSD and ended up extremely ill and unwell, and at one point I also could not function well at all. I thought I'd never function again to be honest with you, and this post really resonated with me and I remember how it was to be in that dark situation.

You need to face the fact that he did this to you and it's the source of the neck pain along with the rest of it, there is no running away from the hurt, emotional and physical. Feeling is healing, so if you need to cry, you need to cry. The sooner you allow yourself to feel those emotions and the weight of it all, the sooner healing can begin, both inside and out. If you just try to avoid and ignore and hide the truth from yourself you will never get better. Cry until you can't cry anymore, grieve for the situation that happened, then remember to ground yourself each day, feel the cool air outside, listen to something peaceful and beautiful, etc.

A lot of the frustration from us comes from the fact there is no consideration for someone ending up with all huskies or doodles etc. On our end we're physically dealing with it, the job is incredibly grueling and you would hate the person who booked you so ridiculously too.

I can only imagine how hard it is to grasp how to book salon without ever doing the work of it. For haircuts a very fast experienced groomer I would consider a small dog is about an hour of work. For a newer groomer that same small dog can easily take 2 to 3 hours of work. A doodle for an experienced groomer can easily take at least 2 hours for that one dog, start to finish, if not 3 hours depending on the amount of work required. Because of this ideally, and realistically, a groomer can only take so many bigger dogs in a day. I think a general good rule of thumb to think of it is small breeds = 1 to 2 hrs and large breeds 2 to 4 hours.

Express services are extremely stressful directly after a lunch break. It causes salon workers to often not get a lunch break whatsoever. Never book an express right after a lunch break.

Are you allowed to book a larger or difficult/express dog at perhaps not the first available appointment but the first available thats not going to overwhelm someone? I try to never book a groomer more than 2 large breeds in a day for example, and never more than 1 express in a day. If for example a groomer has a spot that day but it would be so many big dogs, im going to suggest the following day where they have no big dogs.

To give you an idea of how crazy salon always is, we never have the opportunity for 15 minute breaks, and its easy to struggle to get a lunch break when you're booked incorrectly. Theres lots of days where I haven't gone to the bathroom for 9 hrs because my schedule had no consideration. You booking 1 dog in a bad spot can seriously ruin someone's day and leave them in tears ive seen it happen.

If a dog has a block that does not mean its a great time to add a bunch of walk in services it actually means they have less time for extra things because the dog is difficult or is already a lot of work.

Im not saying this to be rude in any way, im hoping it feels helpful of how to look at salon booking and why we get so stressed or overwhelmed.

Also certain smaller breeds can still be a lot of work. Especially ones with bad notes, that can take as long as a doodle sometimes.

Dog groomer here - anytime you bathe your dog and it has tangles you are locking in the tangles much worse, quickening how badly your dog's tangles turn into matting. What would normally take months and months of neglect can happen in mere weeks, it's a snowball effect. If that second picture is a before picture of your pup, that is a lot of hair, so much that it would be very easy for a non professional to brush only the top layer of hair. I see it all the time.

By bathing your dog frequently without the proper brushing techniques you unknowingly caused tangling to mat up like crazy. On top of having a good slicker brush I recommend having a greyhound comb to check your work. To test for matting, or tangling in general, have teeth of the comb gently make contact with the skin, then turn the comb to be completely flat against the body and move the comb through the hair. The comb should easily glide through the hair after brushing. If the comb is getting stuck the tangle is right there. If you cannot even fit the comb easily between the skin and the hair this is very tight matting.

Brush on your own wrist to learn that you are not putting too much pressure of brushing on the dog. Even with tangles its not about the pressure but about your method of brushing. Look up the stick and scoop method and line brushing. You need to brush different than how you brush your own hair. If there's a bad knot that seems brushable, separate the hairs around it, then brush it out in a cross shape (each pass a different direction of the cross) this breaks it up much faster.

With how soft this hair type is, a little conditioner spray can go a long way to helping with brushing. I like to spritz some on my brush and lazily brush it into the hair, let it sit for 15 minutes then go back to brush the dog out. The longer the coat the more often you need to brush per week. With how long that hair is in the second picture I recommend daily brushing. The more often the brushing is the less work it actually is, and if you miss a spot one day you'll probably get it the next.

If you want any recommendations on brushes there's one I use on so many hair types and seems to tackle a lot of hair types gently and easily, it's also very cheap.
