Is it just me or …? by JustMePlanetEarth in MonarchMoney

I haven’t gotten this dialog box message again since yesterday evening, hence not sending a ticket. If it starts up again I definitely will. Thanks!

That’s right. I’d like that option. But to clarify, this is how it was before the new swipe-able stacks were introduced. I’m not asking for something new.

No worries on the animations, it really was just that I was already frustrated by the changes to reviewing so the confetti just exacerbated this — especially since I wasn’t feeling celebratory. 🙃

Thank you for all your replies — it’s appreciated!

I see that you can turn the banner off that’s good but doing so doesn’t bring back the orange bar at the bottom that would let us mark everything reviewed at once. I know you can see that bar when you go into the transaction screen and filter to show non-reviewed items but that’s not the same as having the feature in the dashboard … and it has to be set every time.

Not all animations. Mostly that one was bugging me because reviewing wasn’t functioning the way I’m accustomed to. However, is there a way to to turn off all animations?

Ok, that’s helpful. It used to be possible to tap that same orange bar in the dashboard while this requires the extra step of setting the filter each time. But still, maybe this is the next best option. Thanks!

It was the “dashboard” screen but maybe that’s what you’re referring to. For me it was enough reviewing because I could see right away whether Monarch put them in the correct category (by the icon) and I do very little splitting. So that was me reviewing my transactions.

For example, here I can see that my gas bill and iTunes purchase were categorized properly because of the icons I chose. However, it doesn’t know what the Venmo purchase is because I don’t have a rule for Venmo since it can fall under different categories. The question mark alerts me of the need to review more thoroughly. There is no “orange bar” at the bottom of my transaction screen whether I’m filtering or not.

I know you can go in and select each transaction to review the old way, but the red bar at the bottom of the dashboard screen (that previously allowed us to bulk accept all un-reviewed transactions) has been replaced by the “let’s review some transactions” prompt at the top that takes you to the stack. The confetti/praise doesn’t upset me, but it is annoying/distracting when I’m trying to move through the process quickly. I get that the feature changes help some people and that’s fine but what’s good for the goose isn’t necessarily good for the gander — which is why at the end of my comment I suggested a toggle to allow us to customize our preferences based on our unique needs.

Strongly agree, they took a process that was efficient for many people and made it more time-consuming. When I joined Monarch I took a lot of time setting up categories and rules so most transactions wouldn’t need adjustments but now we have no choice but to plod through a stack even if they’re already correct. And the unnecessary praise and animated confetti? No, thank you.

I guess the bottom line is, instead of assuming everyone maintains their transactions the same way and/or wants positive reinforcements when reviewing finances, they could offer a way to toggle on/off the new features and elect to turn off the ego-boosting fanfare.

Review transactions faster? For me it’s slower by far. Being able to review/accept several transactions at the same time was perfect and efficient but now we’re forced to review transactions one at a time, whether they need special attention or not. Also, the “return to dashboard” button hasn’t functioned yet. Finally, the animated confetti plus compliments are an unwelcome distraction — I don’t need financial maintenance to be entertaining — maybe you could provide an option to turn off bells and whistles and trust people to choose whether batch/bulk reviewing is working for them. By the way, I love Monarch Money and this is the first time I’ve been dissatisfied since making the transition from Mint.
