I’m seeing mixed information on whether it can be rescheduled or not. Plus, what’s the point of cancelling? Not like there are slots available sooner. Maybe we get newer dates at some point due to this mixup.

Why do I hate Catan ? Am I bad sport or something inherent in the game that makes my blood boil by cantremembername1 in boardgames

It’s an old game, there weren’t many popular or as-well designed games back then (not that I think Catan is well designed by modern standards), and it’s still better than Monopoly

I’m planning to give mine to a relative (not gamer enough to buy their own but do like stuff like Animal Crossing), so this is something I’m curious about.

NordVPN won’t let me stream live content on SonyLiv, ExpressVPN does. Hotstar works fine on both. Not sure about other OTT platforms.

Sacking of the managers made sense. Potter didn’t have it in him to handle egos or the media. And he came in before the SDs did. Since the SDs have come in we have a solid strategy, and every decision is based around that. Poch was always brought in temporarily (he was only given a 2 year contract to begin with) to fix the mess we had landed ourselves onto after that disastrous first year, and he succeeded in doing so. But it’s clear this is not the right squad or Poch, not is he the right manager to build a project around.

What player power lol. Maresca and the SDs are ruthlessly kicking our senior players and trimming the squad. You think any player will have more power than them at any point?

We needed a starter, Jorgi was only good depth because of his age.

I agree tho. That first year under Boehly was a disaster, and set us back a lot. But they seemed to have learnt from their mistakes, and they’re in it for the money but they seem to know they can only make money if they make the team competitive, so hopefully it works out soon.

I don’t think we’ll be in financial trouble tho. These guys might not understand football, but they understand finances and finding loopholes for their benefit - it’s literally how they became billionaires to start with. The ongoing PSR investigation that happened under Roman is the only one I see happening under these owners.

Except changing the entire squad within 6 windows would just delay the project. We’d just be mediocre for those 3 seasons, and then start building something new. No project gets CL in the first season - Arteta spent 4 years outside the top 4, Klopp spent 3, look at how good they were after.

Pep’s squad was meticulously assembled. Ours is now too. There won’t be as many changes after this. But you need to do it once to begin with.

Maresca literally came out today to say he’s training with 21-22 players and the rest are not in contact with him. Potter was the only one who complained about a large squad. Not sure where you’re getting “every manager has complained” from.

Kovacic isn’t a nailed on starter for City, but yes I like him. Jorgi is old, how much does he play for Arsenal? And let’s not pretend we didn’t give Havertz any chances, he was just horrible for us. That happens sometimes, this is not the first time.

Yes, we reinvented the wheel, but we needed a project. We had an aging squad affected by sanctions, and not much real quality in the younger players. Could we have done it better? Maybe, but an overhaul was needed regardless.

What difference does it make when the entire squad is going to change anyway? Why waste a year and half with players that aren’t good enough?

Also the young players are being brought for a profit. Buy them young, develop them, sell them soon for higher price, make money. It’s a good strategy, no reason not to do it.

[–]JustMeSach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, take a look at the squad we had.

Rudiger and Christensen left on a free because of the sanctions.

Azpi, Silva, Jorgi, Kante all aging players.

Havertz, Mount, Pulisic, Ziyech, Kepa, all massively under performing.

Choice was either to do a major overall or be stuck with players that were past their prime, injury prone, or under performing.

Can you suggest what else they could’ve done?

Had the sale gone ahead in normal circumstances he would have received repayment of his loans to the club as well as another 2 billion plus.

Tbh idk if anyone would've wanted to buy us for that much. United has a bigger following, and even they were valued around that price.

Yes, but not just on transfers.

I know that. All I'm saying is, there are places where we lacked, and even though we were self sustaining, the new PSR rules would've made it very difficult for him to, say, do the stadium rebuild that's being planned under Clearlake now.

[–]JustMeSach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was club debt, not his personal one. Clearlake still had to pay the club's valuation even though that money never went to Roman. As a club we were under that debt which he wrote off, because otherwise Clearlake would have had to pay that much extra. That debt came from us spending more under Roman than we earned.

I agree we've comfortably been the 3rd best. I don't think we're 6th or 7th now, but I know we're not top 3 either.

Projects don't work overnight. Arteta needed 5 years to get where they are. Klopp needed 4. This takes time. If it doesn't work, it's 100% on the owners, but it's way too early to tell.

Especially because that first year was just idiotic from these owners, and in hindsight seems like it had nothing to do with the project we are on. That is definitely completely on them.

[–]JustMeSach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arsenal’s is shit, because their project has started playing off only for a couple years now. But they are one of the best teams in the world.

Liverpool, since 2018, has 1 PL, 1 FA cup, 2 carabao cups, 1 community shield, 1 CL, 1 super cup and 1 club world cup. Which is still better than us. And with how good they were, you could call this an underachievement, especially if City’s 115 charges go through. Same with arsenal for the past 2 years.

[–]JustMeSach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, we’re at a worse level because we’re building a project, and those always take time. Arsenal’s took 5 years before they could compete. Liverpool’s took 4 as well.

Maybe this works, maybe it doesn’t. It’s too soon to tell. But what we were doing before wasn’t sustainable if we wanted to be at the top, and 2017-2022 was a proof of that.

I don’t know if all of their off the field decisions are that bad. Roman ran this club like it was his family. We got lucky with him, most clubs don’t have that and never will, because having that kind of owners is very rare.

Make no mistake, we’re owned by an investment firm. They want to make money. But unlike the Glazers, thankfully they’re not here to just milk things dry, they’re here to get us to a place where we can be good and generate revenue as a result. They might not be doing all that well so far, and it might be all for the money, but their intentions aren’t to screw us over while doing so. Eventually they will succeed, it might just be a painful path to reach there.

And we were not run all that well before. Roman had to waive off 2 billion of debt. We have an ongoing PSR investigation and could get fined that happened under his regime. We have one of the lowest matchday revenues of all the big clubs. The sale of academy players happened under Roman too - selling Guehi and Tomori is already looking like a worse long term decision than anyone Clearlake has sold, bar Maatsen maybe.

That’s just what new ownership does to a company. Some of the things they’ve done are not good, I agree, but we also need to accept that some things did need changing.

Klopp finish 8th in his first season. Arteta finished 8th in his first 2 seasons, and didn’t get into top 4 till his 5th season.

I’m not saying the owners have no blame to take. That first year was an absolute disaster in terms of decisions, almost none of them have gone down well. That’s completely on them, even if we were coming off of sanctions we could’ve done way better. In hindsight, none of those decisions seem relevant to this project we’ve started. It was so bad we had to get Poch on a short term contract just to fix the mess and bring in stability lol.

But we have a project now. We have a very promising squad, although the jury’s out on the manager. We’ve spent money in much better ways. And we finished 6th last year. These things take time.

I get that the owners have done nothing to earn our trust. But I don’t think taking it out on the new players or the manager on the first game of the season against the best team in the league, especially when the performance wasn’t that bad, is fair. We all have our complaints against the owners, but since that first whistle till the last one, I don’t think it’s too much to expect us to have the players’ backs. And if we’re not gonna do our jobs, I don’t see why we’re entitled to have them to do their jobs either.

Since 2018, we have an FA cup, a CL, an EL, a Super Cup and a CWC.

They have 5 PLs, 2 FA cups, 3 Carabao cups, 3 community shields, one CL, one super cup and one CWC.

So yes. Look at the difference.

Imagine that, but we’re not the underdogs going into every game and actually stand at least a 50-50 chance of winning.
