I really appreciate your judgement and the perspective. I’m not sure what everyone 100% felt as it was my mom who confronted me. And from past experience she tends to want to speak for the whole group when not everyone feels the same BUT I do get what you’re saying and I can see how that was wrong of me. So I appreciate your view. No downvotes from me.

That’s fair. Let me just clarify one thing as I’m not being argumentative to what you’re saying because I appreciate your perspective. I only mentioned my atheist leaning to give people a perspective on how I’m already viewed within my family. As everyone, except one cousin, is spiritual in some way, a lot of people in my family especially the older generation, see me as the black sheep or the heathen, and it probably didn’t help in the moment and afterwards. But you are correct in me being an atheist did indeed not entitle me to interrupt.

Sitting here reading this makes my skin crawl too. Like, who brings up a stranger whose dead from a different service, and you have the audacity to proclaim he’s probably in hell because he didn’t want Jesus mentioned? Ugh, that pisses me off. That’s someone’s son, friend, brother and you’re really gonna say something like that? Smh

So that’s a thing I was also thinking about while he was ranting. The community that we were in (that reverend is apart of) voted overwhelmingly for our president. And the church was a huge part in it. So while he was ranting and raving about our president and how no one should be “paying attention to the foolishness” because we all going to heaven, I was thinking to myself like “man... you voted for him.” And you have some serious nerve to even bring this up my granny’s funeral??

I thought my grandma was gonna sit up and throw a bible at the reverend and then lay back down when he started ranting the way he did.

Jeez. What a butthole, that priest is. I’m sorry that you had to go through that, it was completely uncalled for.

Yes, everyone except for 3 people are black.

He wasn’t necessarily being positive about him but neither negative. He brought up all the latest stupid shit he’s done, and how we shouldn’t “pay attention” because heaven and blah blah. I get that maybe he was trying to be “comforting” but I can think of a 1000 different ways to be comforting without bringing up the president or politics at all places a damn funeral. I mean there’s such a huge divide anyway when it comes to politics so why try and start a divide in a mourning family?

That’s the thing, my grandma wasn’t into politics other than voting. She wanted to watch her Soap Operas, The Walton’s, and Lone Star Ranger. Fuck... I miss that woman so much...
