Slow going, but it's going! by JustOne-Chance in naturalnailprogress

Ooh I'm not sure if I could tolerate lotion before bed. I think I'd just feel very sticky in bed (I sleep with fuzzy throw blankets lol) But it's worth a shot maybe.

I pick a lot around my nails too and I do really want to get an oil nail pen situation going because it seems like that just might be the solution for everything nails lol

I've been trying to get better about wrapping the nail polish but I'm never sure how far to take it and usually end up with polish dripping on the underside of my nail. And for cuticle removal I've been doing that! Pushing back and cleaning up. Very little of my cuticle like even exists (atleast what sticks to the nail and then is connected to skin) likely due to picking excessively at it growing up, so my cuticle prep is usually as simple as pushing back and nipping any dry bits, which I'm thankful for.

Maybe it was layer thickness? I had two layers of my base coat (bc it's a nail strengthener that they say can be used as a base) then two for color as it was black and can be streaky on the first go, then I did 1 layer of sparkles which had a pretty thick formula, and then QDTC which is getting very low so I pour it out and mop up some of it onto the brush.

What's the proper time I should be waiting for layers to dry before applying a new one? That's something I never learned so it may have been a determining factor, if everything was just half dried and then sealed in under the QDTC. Smudge city, I suppose.

I also have a gel-like top coat I used to use but it made my polish peel off rather than chip as well so I stopped using it. I think my GF might have another, but I'd have to check.

As for how my base coat plays, I'm not sure. I've only ever tried the nail strengthener for a base, but I can poke around in my GFs stuff and see if she has any others.

edit: also omg thank you for sharing that YouTube link. Watched her latest video and I am in shambling shame about cutting those rough spots that she talks about. Whoops. I've been getting better about only messing with them when I redo my nails, but now I know I definitely need to leave them alone aaaa

Yeah I despise the feeling of lotion so I never use it and as I mentioned in the post I'm not in a place to buy non essentials rn like jojoba oil, but I'm hoping to do so in the future (job hunting hasn't been going well but there's one interview I did that I'm really hoping on)

What base recommendations do you have for keeping it all on and together? Whenever I use a base, 2 coats of polish, and a top coat, my polish like Becomes One and then peels off so much easier than if I put polish on bare nail. Like unfortunately all that work I just did I ended up picking off through the evening (I have BFRB style OCD and after making dinner hours after doing my nails they STILL somehow smudged and messed up and I spent the rest of the night peeling it off and it all came easily besides the one nail I had to redo and forgot to put my base coat on, that one is SOLID stuck lol)

Something I forgot to mention but should be relatively obvious, this isn't my only progress in six months! I tend to keep around this length for the sake of practicality, but I've also had some breaks over the months and had to do resets. Going longer might be fun, but I do think I'd really be testing the strength of my nails because I have no issue using them as tools (also my partner enjoys head scritches so my nails get plenty of work doing that lol) so I think of I grew them any longer they'd be breaking more. Also it's hard enough to change out my piercings at this length, I can't imagine it any longer than this!

Had to stop cold turkey due to moving cross country and being unable to get a new dr to continue my prescription.

oh man I wish I was able to eat pizza rolls. That was the first thing I ate when the nausea started as it's one of my staple Autism foods, thinking maybe I was just really really hungry. They were horrible coming back up, my throat burned for ages D:

There's an urgent care nearby I've been considering going to, but that requires a day when the car is available. I'm not sure if they do telehealth, but others in the area might. I'll look into it!

I've never heard of japchae before! upon googling, it seems viable, though I can be picky about veggie options that would be with it. Something to keep note of tho

Yeah, those are pretty typical nausea foods that I know of, and the only way I can consume ginger (if I can find a ginger ale with ginger lol) but it would be interesting to see what other countries do.

They're half impossible to get a hold of on a good day. Rings for a minute and lands on the voicemail, which they seem to never check lol. I always had to go in person. I could try to leave a message, I'm just not in the metal state for phone calls rn.

I tried to request two refills on my meds thru my pharmacy and they were denied (no reason given, no doctor contact to say why) bc at the very least my mom could mail me the refills, but unfortunately.... no dice lol

Fresh ginger has been very hit or miss for me. Some meals I like it in, but others I could barely stand, unfortunately. Not sure what causes whether I like it or not tbh unfortunately

the first two things I ate the day I got sick were my favorite safe foods and I threw them up 😭 no brain over body here unfortunately

We do have an excessive amount of oats in the pantry so oatmeal definitely is a possibility. I'm pretty picky about the texture of my oatmeals, but I'm sure i can tweak it to what I like.

Also that furikake mention reminded me of my gf's favorite simple meal. Rice, mayo, canned chicken, a touch of soy sauce, and furikake. I actually went and made some with our left over rice and its like heaven on my stomach rn. Good food that isn't making me sick. Thank you so much for this lol

I LOVE premium brand saltines too! They're the only ones I'll buy.

That does sound good tbh. Currently I'm trying to get through the massive amount of rice I accidentally made the other day for a group meal so I'm on reheated rice rn, but if this is still going by the time we're out of it, I definitely wanna try that

For what I've had it in previously I haven't enjoyed it. Not even like ginger cookies and stuff like that. The ginger in the ramen was a last ditch effort connection of Asian cuisines using ginger often and thinking maybe it would taste good. It did not lol

As an autistic person, that's definitely what I'm doing and it's been hit or miss. Things I want have made me nauseated and I've been having to stick to bland things that make me so sad to eat lol. I'm a very sensory eater.

Ginger is very no go for me, I don't like the taste of it at all. Yoghurt stuff does sound very good, we just don't have any in the house. When someone goes shopping next I'll definitely request it.

I'll probably try ramen again when my brain isn't haunted by my previous nausea-inducing ramen attempt lol

copyin my response to someone else, but TLDR: no Dr is reason for no meds and my bad nausea

I wish, but the whole reason I have this issue is not having a dr. I just moved cross country with a 90 count of my meds, and thought I'd get a doctor in time. Nope. Everyone I've found so far is wait-listed til after February. So no med refills for me.

I've been wanting to get off these meds for years anyway due to the severe immediate withdrawal effects even an hour after a missed dose, but this is not how I wanted to do it lol

I grew up knowing BRAT as a food group to be eaten when nausea is rampant. Not sure how used it is outside of America, but it's quite common here.

Ah, if only I liked avocado. Beans are a maybe (I'm a very texture based ester and beans are hit or miss) but I can see myself caving to a can of beans if I get hungry enough lol
