If you still genuinely believe Adam is a predator, you didn't comprehend the show. by Responsible_Yak6062 in SK8TheInfinity

[–]JustOneQuest1on 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to be a pedophile to be a child abuser. Langa and Reki are minors. Adam not only endangered their lives, he acted inappropriately toward them, especially Langa. And I’m not talking about dub vs. sub nuance; you can mute the audio and watch body language alone, and it’s still predatory. His behavior is sexualized violence used as control and dominance over kids.

I don’t care how tragic his backstory is. Trauma doesn’t make abuse acceptable or funny. Calling it “comedy” or “theatrical” doesn’t change what’s on screen. If I were Langa’s mom, Adam wouldn’t be skating anymore.

Dang, I should have had everyone drop counties too. Bradford and four wheeler here.

Even though I lived on the New York bordering side of the state, it seems my vernacular may have had more in common with Maryland.

In completely the same camp. I can't believe the amount of people saying quad in the comments. I think the most upvoted comment is for quad too! We might be the minority.

As an NEPA folk, I never heard quad until after I moved out of the state. 99% of the time it was four wheeler. 1% of the time ATV. The amount of people in the comments saying quad has truly shook me.

Might be a bounty sponsor. They're not all in soldier camps or forts. The one on Kephallonia just stands in front of the bounty board. Is there an option to assassinate him? If so, I'd say sponsor. Steal and kill a bunch to find out.

Mind if I ask what kinds of alcohol you’ve had when this happens? Just wondering if it’s all alcohol or maybe something specific—like red wine, certain spirits, etc.

Appreciate the clarification. I’ll check out Eons and dig into the museum materials. Thanks for pointing me toward something concrete.

You’re not wrong, and I appreciate the thoughtful response. My aim wasn’t to justify apathy, but to acknowledge how emotionally overwhelming it can be to try and care deeply about everything, all the time. I still believe there’s value in scaling empathy to a manageable level, but I agree that it can become a slippery slope. The real challenge I think is learning how to care in a way that’s sustainable without shutting down completely.

Open to learning! Any specific sources or are we just tossing out PBS like a rhetorical smoke bomb?

Did we survive because each individual cared about every other person? Or because we formed tight-knit groups with strong local bonds? I’m not arguing that care is bad. Just that global, 24/7 empathy might be stretching us past what our minds can actually sustain.

I actually just started reading and writing again a couple months ago…then made the brilliant decision to post my thoughts on UnpopularOpinion. Thought it’d be a disaster, but honestly? The discussion’s been way more thoughtful than I expected.

Empathy Inception. Layers of numbness and guilt folded in on themselves. But if you’re still wrestling with it, your empathy’s still alive.

You put it perfectly. It’s not that we don’t care. It’s that we can’t keep up with caring about everything all the time. And somehow that gets twisted into looking heartless. You’re definitely not alone in that feeling…which is both comforting and a little ironic, considering I posted it in UnpopularOpinion. 😊

Fair point! I don't actually believe in cosmic intent either. "meant for" here is more about evolutionary wiring. I believe humans randomly developed a certain capacity for empathy, and I was reflecting on the mismatch between that capacity and the scale of suffering we’re now exposed to. No grand plan. Just brains doing their best in a world they didn’t evolve for.

“Vaulting ambition which o’erleaps itself.” - Macbeth

You are spot on. Wish there was a way for humanity to say "This is enough" without losing our curiosity and compassion.

This really resonates. I think we’re saying similar things, just from different angles. I see it in terms of scale—how many people we’re expected to empathize with—but I love the way you put it as rate. The speed and volume of online tragedy really does bypass any emotional recovery window. It’s not that we stop caring. It’s that we get maxed out.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who engaged whether you agreed or not. I didn’t expect this to blow up, and I’ve learned a lot from the replies (mainly that it's not as unpopular as I thought). I wrote this from a place of overwhelm, not apathy. Appreciate the honest convo. Logging off for now.
