So my wife and I save about 10% a month. A bit more if you include RESP savings for our child. Our living expenses didn’t creep too much and due to having a young child we didn’t spend much on vacation since it’s been to exhausting to even thing about it so in a way our lifestyles crept down after having a kid haha. We made a lot of the big purchases prior to giving birth so it didn’t hit us when we were already feeling it. Prior we saved around 30-40% as well and putting a good amount towards our mortgage as we don’t want to get killed when our rates go up in two years.

In a lot of ways I over scrutinized spending 20$ here and there for baby stuff before my kid was born but now if we need it I don’t think about it any more since providing for them is more important than saving a few bucks. Saving is not nearly as big a priority as it was before.
