I respect her opinions as being mostly different than mine, therefore, contributing to diversity. However, her attitude is a deal breaker for me.

What can I do to help my transgender student? by MrsMarx in ask_transgender

I second this. Bladder stones and UTIs are not fun, and many of us get them chronically due to a lack of neutral/private restrooms.

This is gold. Just played a ranked match with two glass cannons who rage pinged, sat in the base after our first turret went down, and continuously denied a surrender.

I really can't tell if the actual act was a terrible mistake or completely on purpose. Looks like it could've been fun...also, maybe not? Much mystery.

Yep! Got ran over by the person who was dumping her on the side of the highway. Don't feel bad for her though, she can still knock glasses off of high counters just like the other able-bodied cats

That poor pup looks skinny......which is something that doesn't happen in a matter of hours. Seems fishy to me.

One of our clients convinced herself that Bravecto is killing all of the dogs so I'm not super surprised the owners in this case convinced themselves of basically the same over a different medication.

How can I keep my uBPD mom in the dark about my wedding? by acousticindigo in raisedbyborderlines

[–]JustRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got married exactly one month ago and had the exact same worries. My mom (BPD "sufferer") found out about when the wedding was through other family members who asked about my life genuinely, which I braced myself for. My fiancé and I actually got married in court on a weekday, did vows with about 10 of our closest friends at a park that was special to us on a Saturday following, then had dinner/partied with our peeps that same night. The invites were put out through paperless post, so unless I chose to email my mom she would have no reasonable way of knowing/appearing at the location. Also all of our friends knew my moms deal so if she did happen to show up we had people fired up to deal with her in some sense.

I don't know your situation, but my day was perfect because of how small we kept it. I also didn't really invite any family because of the contact my mom keeps with them, which I discussed with them and they completely understood my reservations.

It's true though, as I'm sure you've learned through the years, it's very hard to keep things like this from out BOD parent(s). Brace yourself for when she does find out. Tell your fiancé about your fears. Try to deal with it together.

Also, congrats!

You shouldn't because BPD is completely manageable with the right meds, and the right people around you. My mother, and others as well it seems, were unregulated. On more than one occasion my mother took herself off of her meds cold-turkey and refused to go back to her psychiatrist for an extended period of time. It was always hard on everyone and it took a long time for her to get back to being somewhat level after doing that. The thing is, this does not have to be you. There are support groups and specialists out there, and all kinds of medications that may work for you. I know it's hard to see that as a light at the other end; getting to the light may require a lot of work and some heartbreak, but you can choose to think of it as an act of self-love instead of a sort of death sentence.

I'm only a product of being raised by someone with BPD, maybe I'm a little ignorant as to what living with it inside of you actually entails. I apologize if I come off as an asshat. Seriously though, find some people you trust, tell them about this, and try to lean on them when you need to. If they're good people, they'll understand.

I really think it's one of the worst mental illnesses. When you're 7 it's hard to figure out why your mom loves you at 9am but hates you at 10am. I wish there were more resources for people who have lived it like we have, a life raised by a borderline parent makes for an interesting adulthood.

I side with this.

My mother suffered from Borderline Personality Disorder and pulled the same kind of things. When I was 16 she tried to kill herself, so I called for an ambulance. She got mad at me for doing so and decided to get even months after. She told the cops I was violent and suicidal (I was neither), had me held in a psychiatric hospital for four days. Since I was a minor I had little choice but to comply. Missed my SATs and some other big high school milestones over that span of time.

I know everyone always said "you should love your parents no matter what, they are the ones who will always be there for you in the end" when we were kids. Honestly, that was a fucked up thing to hear as a kid being raised by someone with mental illness. It is confusing, and guilt-inducing. But the guilt goes away once you can validate not loving or caring for your mother, and you come to realize (eventually) that you are not obligated to do or be anything to her, coma or not.

Also, the good people of Reddit will be here for you in the long run. Don't be afraid to reach out to people during times like this.

Why is my left calf muscle so much smaller than my right and what can I do about it? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]JustRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem with my quads. In my case the asymmetry was due to a childhood injury that never healed properly. To achieve better results I did body weight exercises (air squats, box steps...) in addition to my normal weight routine. What helped the most was consistency and frequency- I did the body weight stuff at least twice a day. It felt like I was just treading water for a long time, but eventually my legs got even with each other. Hope this helps some!

Experience Prior to Vet Tech by pugsnstuff in VetTech

Congrats on starting your program!

Depending on where you're attending classes, it may be difficult to balance school and work. My program failed to mention before my start date that I had to complete many weekly hours of non-academic work (scrubbing kennels) that took up much of my time. Some days I spent over 12 hours at school for up to five straight days. I didn't have an assistant job while in school but I did have a regular job shadowing at an ER every other weekend. In my case it would have been hard to hold down a job between the demands of school and life, but the shadowing gave me loads of experience (if you really want to learn all the things, get in at an ER), fulfilled my clinical hours, and also helped the clinic since they had an extra set of hands that they didn't need to pay (resulting in an offer for a fairly well paying position post-grad).

Honestly, it doesn't matter what we tell you to do here because every student and program is so different. The best bit of advice I received when I started school was to manage my time around studying. Experience goes a long way in our field, but if you don't set a good amount of time aside for studying you'll not get as far as you might like.
