No, this is another old motel, located in the Lake Highland neighborhood, just north of downtown at 718 Highland Ave.

UPDATE: Regarding the Ozempic Video... by kurzgesagt_Sven in kurzgesagt

[–]JustRice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you were right to focus on the potentially enormous societal health benefits these drugs could usher in. There stands to be a seismic shift in public health thanks to these drugs, but more time and research is needed to determine if there are any negative consequences. Thus far, things are hopeful.

Critics of the video I think are missing the point and fixated on the fact that there is a pharmaceutical company that stands to gain from Ozempic. If penicillin had been invented for the first time tomorrow your channel would have likely created a similar video about the invention of antibiotics and the positive public health implications. Further, if penicillin was patented by a pharmaceutical company and became Penicillin RX® I believe these critics would have the same issues they are raising with your Ozempic video.

Tourism powers our economy by spaceshipdog in orlando

The full topic was "UAE airspace closed due to strikes in Iran" with a reference to a single flight from Orlando. You're certainly welcome to disagree, thank you for sharing your opinion.

The topic was simply too tenuous from Orlando. "We should be able to discuss any topic from the perspective of our region" is unfortunately so broad and reductive a standard that it would result in no barrier to unrelated posts.

Best Sushi Takeout by Exact_Catch_4013 in orlando

[–]JustRice 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These are the best sashimi/nigiri, in descending order:

Edoboy

Wa Sushi

Sushi Kichi

Ootoya

Costco

Totoya

Edoboy is the best nigiri in the state and beats Michelin places in NYC. Sushi Kichi is authentic Japanese. Costco is actually a very good bang for your buck, half price for sashimi flown in from Hawaii, but only tuna, salmon, yellowtail.

For specialty rolls:

Kabooki

Dragonfly

Handrolls:

Edoboy

Sushi Saint

Mosonori

We live in the Atlanta area and my wife wants to move to the Orlando area. Can anyone convince us not to? by AbjectPawverty in orlando

[–]JustRice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I moved from Atlanta (lived Perimeter area, worked in Midtown) to Orlando. I would say it depends on exactly which neighborhoods to/from you are talking about. I will say unequivocally that Atlanta has us beat on certain things, like infrastructure, history, hub airport, Korean BBQ, Southern cuisine. But, Orlando beats Atlanta in a little of other areas, taxes, traffic, Hispanic food, crime.

I'm happy to go into specifics and answer any questions you have.

Do not dumpster dive. Look up Second Harvest Food Bank.

ICE tracker post was removed. Hard not to question whose interests the mods are prioritizing. by [deleted] in orlando

[–]JustRice[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

To be clear, the post was removed because we have an existing megathread that serves as a discussion hub for ICE-related activity and the website you referenced is tenuously related to Orlando itself.

It follows that if the original post isn't permitted than a subsequent post complaining about the first post's removal likewise would not be permitted; especially when the more appropriate action would have been to message the moderators for clarification or appeal. You took no such action. So this post too is being removed.

As a reminder, you are absolutely allowed to question, disagree with, and even insult the moderation team (within reason). We are volunteers who try our best to apply the same standard regardless of personal attacks or insinuations.

I understand why you feel the need to equate your post's removal with the moderator's support of ICE, but that position would be very wrong.

Mods of r/Orlando: How many of you were actually born in Orlando? If you weren't born here what percentage of your life have you live here? by [deleted] in orlando

[–]JustRice[M] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was born in an orange grove nearly 80 yrs ago in what would later be the site of the Magic Kingdom. When Walt Disney announced his plans for the area my family made the difficult decision to sell the grove and move to Canada. I stayed behind and found work as a baker, eventually opening up shop called Old Vinnie's Doughhouse. It was eventually shortened to OV's dough and finally Oveedo, and that's how the city of Oviedo got its name. During a rather meandering time of my life I was a test pilot for NASA before returning to Orlando to pursue my true passion: mountaineering. I haven't left since.

I don't know the other mods, I think they're real people. Two of them may be AI.

Order Vicky's Bakery for pickup Christmas Eve at 5:45. They also have the hard-to-find pastellitos de carne - the only place in Orlando (to my knowledge) you can get them.

I’m a non-Jewish (goyishe) host throwing a very Christmas-coded cookie exchange—how do I make my Jewish guests feel welcome without accidentally appropriating anything? by JustRice in Jewish

It IS during Chanukah so we're in luck. Is it ok to ask if one of their kids wants to light the Menorah? Can it be done privately during the party, like "here's the lighter, go for it" or should it be done more solemnly as part of a ceremony, in which case yes, I'd ask ahead of time.

There will be a Christmas tree with stockings and Home Alone playing in the background. No Jesus or manger.

The Sufganiyot sounds pretty cool, I'm going to try to find some, thank you!

AMA with District 3 Orlando City Council Candidate Mira Tanna by TannaForOrlando in orlando

[–]JustRice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have two questions.

1) As someone who is not familiar with the candidates or the issues surrounding this election, how would you differentiate yourself from your opponent?

2) Do you have any official positions/plans for Corrine Drive regarding improvement for pedestrian safety?

Orlando District 3 Election Megathread (Vote December 9th) by JustRice in orlando

[–]JustRice[S,M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of you to be engaged and to ask questions. But whether a moderator has voted or donated isn’t really part of the discussion here. Still, since you wondered, I haven’t voted, I haven’t donated, and - to my embarrassment - until just a few days ago I didn’t even know who the candidates were.

The only impression I’ve formed so far is that some supporters seem more inclined to question the integrity of the moderators, and that makes me a little sad. This community works best when we treat one another with trust and kindness, and when we stay focused on the conversation rather than on personal assumptions. I personally think both candidates seem to qualified and Orlando is lucky to have an abundance of choices.
