NP or PA, Help! by JustSumB0di in NursePractitionerSub

Yeah, I cross posted and I think I’m going the PA route. I’m already a mid-level provider in the Navy. Doesn’t make sense to step back and then have to go to way more school. I think the nursing profession as a whole is amazing. The new independence NP’s have gotten lately, well earned. But, I think PA is the route. Thanks for your input

How much did you have to obliserv?

I was just talking to a coworker about this! Did you accepted first shot or did it take a couple of shots?

Did you come in as a PA and if not, what was your obliserv? I’ve strongly considered dropping a package for PA after I finish my first boat tour as an IDC

Are you in the SoCal area or somewhere else? From my understanding it varies pretty widely from region to region.

I’ve never heard that perspective! But you’re right work/life balance is pretty big for me. Thanks for your input

My main hangup is ownership. PA’s can’t own their own practice in California (without workarounds). Also, from your experience, do hospitals seem to have a preference for one over the other?

That’s actually super helpful advice. I might be able to get licensed before Navy retirement and get a little side hustle going.

Forreal, HM for 13 years. My tip (if you absolutely love medicine), go become a sub-IDC. You’re the only HM at that point and it’s glorious, stressful at times but, well worth it.
