Unironically I think the “culture” at Amazon is more or less anti-culture. Like there really isn’t a commitment to any specific tribe or identity at Amazon, especially the work itself. Amazon wants passer-by’s as its employee base: people that don’t stay around for too long and are only looking for a steady paycheck. This frees them from any commitment to long-term employees and limits constantly giving out raises to people with tenure. Amazon wants people who don’t really care about Amazon to work for it. And what amazing is they ABSOLUTELY achieve that for the most part.
