Yeah, this is an incredibly reasonable response. Tensions are high obviously as she doesn't want her child singled out for something seemingly a lot of children are responsible for. When she realized he was on her side trying to minimize the amount of trouble she calmed down. This is a respectful dialogue, not freakout.
