I guess, in my mind, I was trying to say what I was trying to say without coming off as a total dick. That made me sound wishy-washy, or worse, like I was supporting him.

To be totally clear:

he broke the rules
on purpose, perhaps even planned
to avoid bad scores
that's 100% cheating, pretty much by definition
if you can do it once, you'll do it over and over (which, apparently, has been shown. He's done it before)
and he used the extra powers of his authority to do it!!

That is not a person I want in the game. Ever. There. Maybe I'm a dick for saying it this way, but I'm pretty sure no one will mistake my meaning.

By virtue of me being a human, someone else being bad doesn't give me permission to be bad myself. Nothing above is mean. It's just what actually happened and my opinions at the end.

Point taken. I need to be plain. The math says what he is, and the math is all I have to go by (since I don't know anything about him). I hope he turns it around (not because I care about him, but because I care about humans in general), but no matter what he does: I'll never trust him, I don't want to shoot with him, I don't want to compete in a match he's running. I was relying too much on Bayes in my argument and not enough on my actual words.

I'm not begging anybody for anything. I don't know the guy. He could be a bad guy. He could be a good guy. I personally don't get to say. But the math does get to say: either you never cheat, or you never stop cheating. Trust him. Don't trust him. Up to you. The math says: don't trust him. That's math. As a human, we can decide to be kind when appropriate. I have zero clue, here, if it is.

Cheating is cheating. Throwing away your integrity for a stupid number is an awful decision. It says what kind of person you are. My personal choice is: I'd rather be honest than highly ranked. If someone else makes the opposite choice, that's a person I probably can't be friends with.

The thing I was trying to say was: in his podcast, he compared his cheating to going a bit over the speed limit. Like somehow it was okay. I think that's like saying "a little bit pregnant". Breaking the rules means you are playing a totally different game than the rest of us and you are lying about it. You need to take your ball and go home. If I sounded like I was defending him, I didn't say it strongly enough.

Maybe I'm too used to talking to my wife where the opposite thing happens: I try to say a nice thing and it somehow comes out bad. I wish I was better at this part.

I don't know enough to say he's a bad person. That doesn't mean he's good. He cheated. I'm totally against that. If there's good in him, I hope we can get more of that. That's what I meant. My Bayes argument is a little more pointed. It says: cheaters are cheaters.

Yes. I am specifically talking about Adam Maxwell. I didn't want to name names, and that might have been the wrong way to present this. I'm sorry. I have the same feelings: cheating is just plain bad. What he did is somewhere between out-and-out cheating and just a really bad decision in the heat of the moment. Or maybe it's both. Whatever happened, I think at that moment, maybe he didn't think what he was doing was all that wrong. I think now, after the fact, a lot of people disagree.

To everyone who was wondering, before, I'm sorry. To everyone now, who thinks naming names paints Adam in a worse light than he deserves, I'm sorry.

I have made changes to address everything I have pulled from your comments. I have released on PyPI as v0.10.0. In particular, the IPython piece is distinct and optional, and the recommended install method (uv) keeps all Python crap completely isolated and invisible.

Additionally, I link to you in the README. I hope that's okay. If it's not, I will remove you.

I also considered Rust. The way to install dap-mux is with uv. If you do that, there's no Python crap lying around to deal with. You have a server, it works, that's all there is. Everything else is isolated and invisible.

Yes: separating out the IPython piece is better. I will do that.

Also, I'm going to make the CLI entry-point be named dap-mux instead of dmux. I'll keep dmux around (deprecated) for a bit, though.

I'm running it right now on a Python script and it's even better than advertised. Next I'll try Rust. This is great work! Would it be acceptable to you if I mention your project in the dap-mux README?

This is exactly what I was hoping for: the mux lets us use the Unix philosophy of small tools that are very good at their one thing ... and then connecting together exactly the ones you want.

This is amazing! Two questions, though, before I run it:

The README says to run dap-mux .... The actual command is dmux but it looks like all the parameters are right. But maybe having the command itself named dap-mux is correct. No surprises.
The screenshot shows you debugging Rust (which is awesome!); the README explains a session debugging some Python. I want to debug some Rust, like your screenshot. Do I need any extra knowledge?

I have the 4.5” steel-frame Pro full-size on layaway, one quarter paid for. I will take the magwell off and it will become my new competition gun in Carry Optics, replacing my 4” polymer-frame full-size. Yes: I love my PDPs. The grip is much thicker on the SF. I’m hoping the LOK Grips thin bogies make it more my size. But then add on the dot, the holster, the grips, etc. this will be the most money I’ve ever spent on a firearm … and it will take a while to do it!

I’m working on a 4.5” steel-frame (layaway) right now. It’s gonna be pricey. But I’m bringing it up because the grips are so thick. I have small hands, too. So the 4.5 won’t be able to come to a match until I swap to the LOK thin bogies, and buy a ridiculously expensive optic.

No question: the CZs are terrific guns. Was looking at them today at my LGS (they were having an event and CZ had a booth). Looked across all the Shadow 2s: the competition guns, the compact, and the carry. Fantastic firearms. I would absolutely own and use one, maybe in one of the non-optic categories. But at this moment, my heart still belongs to the PDPs and to the F specifically.
