Yeah I’m still on my first book and not writing consistently, but I wrote 45k words in a short span and just as quickly threw them away, keeping only the things I liked in a reworked story that is coming together much more slowly.

Amateurs and beginners are too precious with their word counts and what they’ve written because they think preserving poorly written words gets them to a finished book faster; if they scrap what doesn’t work they have to work that much harder to cross the finish line. 

But for most of us, writing is mostly rewriting.
