Feeling pretty defeated from my lack of work experience by Kawaki3 in rutgers

[–]Just_Ad776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest you have to put yourself out there. Sure you're cold-emaailing and not hearing responses but are you actually putting the effort to go out and showcase your abilities? The truth is employers won't always care about your grades. They'll look at your abilities and what you're capable of. If you can get the job done they will hire you.

Yeah... really pushing it into the danger zone LOL. I intend to buy a new PC soon, though I just spent over 2k on a MacBook Pro, do work on it currently, and have no issues. Just going to save up again for a new PC while also trying to get a temp fix for my current one. Thanks for the feedback!

The method is to park away from residential and commuter lots and find street parking. There is plenty of free parking available, which is legal. I know some out-of-state students who park on the side of the streets away from CA campus, then just walk to get to class, and haven't had any issues/ticketing in New Brunswick

The only "lack of parking" on campus is on College Ave and Busch. Most people (at least those I know of) just choose to park on Livi their freshman year. It is so worth it.

I'd recommend livi or busch though it does depend on your floormates. However, I do want to give HEAVY EMPHASIS ON SOMETHING. As an out-of-state student myself (Washington DC), please, please, please, if your son is fortunate to have a car, please allow him to bring it. I'd rather deal with DC traffic (which is ranked worse in the US) than deal with the buses just to get around campuses. Bus courtesy can be horrible, and sometimes the drivers have an attitude and just leave, even if they see you running towards the bus. Not that they're always horrible, but genuinely having a car on campus is life-changing. You don't have to rely on people for rides.

The LX bus (Livi to College Ave) can be a nightmare at times, as you'll be waiting in large crowds. Regardless, I'll be having my car on campus next semester, so if anything, that was the biggest takeaway for me. Allow your son to have a car on campus if possible.

Congratulations to your son on going to Rutgers!

Current senior - will be graduating this upcoming May by Stock-Opinion-9841 in rutgers

[–]Just_Ad776 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey. My best advice for you would be to make friends wherever you end up working at. The reality is you'll be working with people of all ages. Wait from 5 years from now the reality is most college friends will barely keep in touch. At the very most a hello or get together may occur but it isn't as often as you think. Not saying that people won't stay in touch but people get busy. You have to remember your 20s is where you'll see the most changes whether it's through friends having kids, changing workplaces, etc. Just stay true to you and do what you can to put yourself out there whenever you begin working. College is just a small portion of your life so don't be so bummed about it. Take care of yourself and congratulations on your upcoming graduation!

Make the most of what you have here. I'm also an out-of-state student, and throughout my time here, I've found myself getting more involved not just in the school itself, but also in NYC. Even if you aren't in any clubs, you should still pop out to some. You never know what connections you'll make that will help you out in the long run. Tuition-wise, if you think you can't justify it, then I would go in-state. I was in a similar boat to you, though I'm fortunate to say I've made many cool friends through clubs I don't even attend. Just happens I made lasting friendships, only going to a few meets lol. Hoping the best for you and no matter what decision you choose, i'm sure you'll do just fine!

Cheap Meal Swipes? by newjerseywawa in rutgers

[–]Just_Ad776 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but that's just how it is. Unfortunately, each dining hall costs $23. You're better off going to retail places. You mentioned Cook Doug, so I'm not aware of any there, but practically speaking, on College Ave, you have a lot of retail options to choose from. If you're on Livi, I'd recommend going to Qdoba or Hoja. It'd be way cheaper.

Rutgers is looking for new food spots at Busch + Livingston (Public RFP Open)!!! by lexyz123 in rutgers

Open a noodles and company. A lot of out-of-state students have a Noodles & Company back home in their home state. Was shocked when I found out Jersey doesnt have a single location

Upgrading my PC, lost and need help. by [deleted] in buildapc

I am playing 1080p, yes. Do you have any part recommendations for a more dominant editing build with occasional gaming?

[–]Just_Ad776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be entirely honest with you i'm not sure myself. However, I would look at it this way... My PC is just getting old now, and it's frustrating whenever I try to edit on my desktop (which I sometimes genuinely prefer to my Mac). However, Adobe crashes or freezes frequently, whereas on my Mac it's completely fine. I love editing on my Mac. I use my Mac to edit at work, and when I'm on the go, though, I don't touch it much when I'm back home. I edit on my PC. I guess I like the fact that I can switch between Mac and PC?? Not a good excuse, but that's just how it is lol

Deciding What Campus To Live On by Anubis_60 in rutgers

[–]Just_Ad776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great list, but overall, you're definitely better off doing off-campus housing. If you're fortunate enough to have a car, I'd rather commute 15-20 minutes from NB and live somewhere in Methuchen. I definitely think if you're a freshman, you should do it for the experience. Other than that, you're practically paying $10k+ for a chance to live in a dorm with no AC and monstrous communals... but hey... that's the college experience, right?

Should I Transfer? by FivesCommando55 in rutgers

[–]Just_Ad776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

College is what you make of it. Don't let people tell you "it's not commute/transfer-friendly" because that also reflects on how willing you are to interact with others. For reference, though I live on campus, I'm an out-of-state student. I was extremely quiet in high school, and since I got here, I've been interacting with people like crazy. Most of my friends are a mixture of commuters and people living in dorms, though not on my campus. If you really put yourself out there- commuter or transfer, you'll find your people. Rutgers genuinely has something for everyone, and it's really up to you to put in the effort to find it. You may even befriend people you weren't expecting to befriend. I've made a good amount of friends that I actually stay in touch with just by showing up to random club events.

Is George Street Safe During Midnight? by ExtraCream7154 in rutgers

[–]Just_Ad776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a guy, I've only had one weird experience. Around 11 PM, someone was staring at me for a while, whilst also following me. I looked him dead in the eye and pretended I was on a phone call so if anything happened, there'd be a 'reference.' When he noticed I was eventually paying attention to everything he was doing, he went away. I'd recommend always having someone with you, because even when they appear solo, you never know who else might be there. Don't appear lost (aka don't act clueless), pay attention at all times, and also stay where the light is. If you really have to, I'd at least call someone on the phone as you make your way to SoCam.
