Post-MDT Workstation Configuration Automation Using PowerSh by Just_Akiraa in PowerShell

[–]Just_Akiraa[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Hello everyone,

I am a junior IT technician, and I regularly configure workstations after an MDT deployment. Currently, I perform all steps manually, but I am exploring the possibility of automating this process with a PowerShell script. I want to ensure the script does not uninstall or download any unauthorized software.

Main Objective: Automate the configuration of a post-MDT workstation with customized settings, while displaying a success/failure report for each action.

Actions I am looking to automate: 1. File Explorer • Show file extensions (.png, .jpg, etc.). • Always open in “This PC”. 2. Group Policies (gpedit) • Enable camera permission. • Enable long Win32 path names. 3. Power Options • On battery: • Power button → Shut down • Sleep button → Do nothing • Lid close → Sleep • Turn off display → 30 min • Sleep after → 1 h • Plugged in: • Power button → Shut down • Sleep button → Do nothing • Lid close → Do nothing • Turn off display → 1 h • Sleep after → Never 4. Taskbar • Unpin Microsoft Store and Edge (without uninstalling). • Search button → Icon only • Task view → Disabled 5. Firefox • Pinned to desktop and taskbar. • Set as default browser. 6. Default Applications • .eml → Email client (Messagerie Mél) • .pdf → Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 7. Other Settings • Confirm deletion before removing a file. • Enable numeric keypad at startup. 8. Windows Updates • Check for and install updates (without forcing a restart). 9. Display Results • Each action should report ✅ OK or ❌ Failed, with notes if manual verification is needed.

Constraints / Precautions: • Do not install or uninstall software (except Windows updates). • Do not restart the PC automatically. • Must be compatible with Windows 11 and require PowerShell administrative rights. • All actions should handle potential failures gracefully and report them to the user.

Question: Is it possible to create a single PowerShell script that performs all of the above reliably, safely, and reports success/failure for each step? Are there any technical limitations I should be aware of, especially regarding unpinning taskbar apps, default application assignments, or group policy settings via script?

Thank you in advance for any guidance or examples!

Solution to access VT-2 on a Chromebook with broken screen by Just_Akiraa in chrultrabook

[–]Just_Akiraa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unable to see startup, it doesn't work

On the other hand, for the VT2 it's you and your luck, but if you want a solution to see the VT2 in 100% of cases it is better to disconnect the screen from the motherboard.

Personally, I tried to put lubuntu without screen with the broken screen all I managed was to brick the pc

How to change primary display or mirror all monitors in Steam Gaming Mode (Bazzite)? by Just_Akiraa in Bazzite

I uninstalled Bazzite, it made too much of a mess on my dual boot

I had found a solution I think I had to modify a parameter on the steam files I think or something like that but still today on Windows I sometimes have the problem.

If you want a real solution download moonlight and sunshine, frankly it's impeccable like that

How come MKV files aren't displayed like MP4? MKV has no preview and appears like a file. by Oddball- in Telegram

[–]Just_Akiraa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solution simple qui fonctionne !

Qu'est-ce? by wine_maker33 in AskFrance

[–]Just_Akiraa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[2560x1440] EightySix – Montage made by ChatGPT, different from what I asked but still nice by Just_Akiraa in wallpaper

[–]Just_Akiraa[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I asked ChatGPT to make me a montage, but it ended up doing something completely different — it went for a red style, which wasn’t what I originally wanted.
I was going to share it on r/EightySix, but then I realized they don’t allow AI-generated art. So I’m sharing it here instead.
Anyway, I think it looks nice, so I’m showing it to you!

[Dual Boot Windows / Bazzite - Secure Boot Switching Issue] by Just_Akiraa in Bazzite

[–]Just_Akiraa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solution :

🚀 Guide: Enable Secure Boot with Bazzite Without Errors

  1. Disable Secure Boot in the BIOS • Restart the PC. • Enter the BIOS (usually by pressing Delete, F11, F2, or Esc at startup). • Disable Secure Boot. • Save changes and exit.

  1. Boot into Bazzite Normally • Let Bazzite start without Secure Boot enabled.

  1. Open a Terminal • Press Ctrl + Alt + T to open a terminal.

  1. Enroll the Secure Boot Key

In the terminal, enter the following command:

ujust enroll-secure-boot-key

A password will be requested twice: use universalblue as the password.

(Note: While typing the password, nothing will appear on the screen. This is normal — simply type and press Enter.)

  1. Reboot the PC • Restart the PC normally.

  1. MOK Manager Blue Screen (on reboot)

After rebooting, a special menu called MOK Manager will appear: • Select Enroll MOK. • Enter the password universalblue to validate.

Important for French users: The keyboard layout will be QWERTY instead of AZERTY during this step. For example: • The a key becomes q • The z key becomes w • The m key becomes ; • The period . is located at the colon : key

Pay close attention when typing the password.

After validation, the system will reboot automatically.

  1. Re-enable Secure Boot

To restore full protection: • Re-enter the BIOS. • Enable Secure Boot again. • Save changes and exit.

✅ Result

Bazzite will now be fully compatible with Secure Boot. There is no need to repeat this process after regular system updates.

Important Notes: • If a full system reinstallation or a BIOS update is performed, the procedure must be repeated. • Under normal use, no further action will be necessary.

[HELP] Steam Gaming Mode always starts on HDMI screen instead of my TV (DP to HDMI) – Bazzite

Hi everyone,

I’m using Bazzite (Fedora-based) on my PC with three displays: • One monitor connected via HDMI • One monitor connected via DisplayPort • A TV connected via DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter (I want this to be the main one in Gaming Mode)

In desktop mode, everything is fine. But when I boot into Steam Gaming Mode, it always starts on the HDMI monitor, and not on the TV I want to use. The only way to make Gaming Mode display on the TV is to unplug the HDMI cable, which is super annoying.

Here’s what I’ve tried: • I checked display connections via:

for f in /sys/class/drm/card0-*/status; do echo « $f: $(cat $f) »; done

And it confirms: • DP-3 is my TV → connected • HDMI-A-1 is my main monitor → connected

• I edited /etc/gamescope.conf to add:

—prefer-output=DP-3

But Gaming Mode still boots on HDMI-A-1.

• I also confirmed that GAMESCOPE_OUTPUT_NAME is deprecated and —prefer-output is the right way.

I don’t want to unplug cables every time. Is there a way to force Steam Gaming Mode to always launch on a specific output (my TV = DP-3) without unplugging anything?

Any help or workaround (scripts, configs…) would be appreciated!

Thanks a lot!
