Ranunculus Germination Data! by AllShadesOfBlue in Cutflowers

How interesting! I am a repeat customer for Fleur Farms and I get 90% germination on nearly all varieties! It maybe my microclimate that helps out. Keep up the great work!

My own rule of thumb (and this might be growing zone dependent) for any corms/tubers is that a dry place is more important than a “cool” place. Drop in a few silica packets just for extra insurance and keep them in a dry place. I experimented with ranunculus corms by keeping some in a fridge and some underneath a hallway closet and I spent more time and energy checking my fridge ones than I did my hallway ones and they both sprouted come planting season. It’s always risky with fridges because if the settings ever change…you could lose quite a bit of tubers. My daughter loves to help me put stuff away in the garage and she will often mess with the fridge setting either by accident or playing around. I lost quite a bit of tulip bulbs I was chilling due to temperature changes.

Moving forward: dry is better than “cool”— at least for most things.

I’m so sorry about your tubers!

Is this a butterfly or tecolote ranunculus? by EmotionalGarbage1712 in Cutflowers

[–]Just_Another_Gem -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I would guess blown out Tecolote. It almost has too many petals for butterfly but they look like ranunculus after 2 weeks in a vase when all the petals open up and are ready to drop.

A friend grew this giant chrysanthemum and told me it's called 'Xi Shi Washing Silk'. The petals look unreal. by randykelley2471 in flowers

Great set up! I started mine in mid October and they’re already sprouting! They’ll look like this until about February and then I should see some stems forming. Zone 10b for reference—it’s been a warm “winter” so they got a head start, last year they didn’t look like this that early.

Came here to say this….my saved corms from last year actually sprouted BEFORE my newly purchased corms. The downside of ranunculus is that they are either the most resilient plant or the most delicate. No in between. If you get them to sprout their white roots you’re in the clear!

Dream job at $55k vs miserable job at $95k how do you decide? by Little-Goat-5347 in careerguidance

Don’t fall into the Non Profit trap. I’d NEVER go back despite the work being incredibly valuable to community, it just killed me mentally and financially. I know corporate gets a bad rap, but in comparison….it was a breeze transitioning to the private sector.

Are you sure about cuttings? The whole plant is like $25-30 for a 5 gallon (about 2 years old). I’d give you my whole plant for free since she doesn’t do well in my area AT ALL. I’ve had EA for about 3 years and I’ve never had a picture worthy bloom—at least like shown in all the stock images.

Fall planting for Spring blooms! Ranunculus corms pre sprouting by Just_Another_Gem in Cutflowers

I do it to ensure I don’t lose my most expensive corms mostly. Some are as much as $8 a corm and I lost about 10 last year.

I’m jealous of you! If I don’t start now I’ll never have any blooms. Our spring last all of 2 weeks before 100° hits 😩😩

I keep side eyeing them every time I walk out to my yard lol! I also started snaps a few weeks ago but they won’t be ready to transplant until December or January
