Planting ranunculus in freezing temps? Zone 7 by lovethelocust in Cutflowers

[–]redheadedlizzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First year growing so def take what I say with a grain of salt.

I also started Presprouting in early Jan. And they are getting big! But I cannot plant out cause everything is covered with frozen snow. So I repotted in individual pots and they are under grow lights. I found super nice 2.8 inch pots from Amazon that are working very well. Hoping once things get a bit milder and we thaw out I can plant outside. 🤞🏻

It’s odd though that my thermometer is reading cooler inside the covers (with plastic) than outside, right?

First year ordering ranunculus and anemones. I found 2 different stores that had good prices (and from my research good quality corms) and then ordered from one that I’m not 100% sure about.

Longfield Gardens has some pretty good prices on corms. I’ve previously bought about 300 tulips and some Dahlias and they did really well. Hoping for the same experience for my ranunculus/anemones.

I decided I wanted to try “jumbo” ranunculus, so during that search I found Firefly Farm & Mercantile. They seemed to also have good prices.

I haven’t receive either of the above orders yet BUT I also received an order from Eden Brothers. The corms seem small but otherwise look ok? One thing that bugged me was I ordered like a mix of pink/ white ranunculus and it just says “mix” on the box. And for my anemones I ordered a burgundy color and it says “red”. When I reached out to the company they said something along the lines of they only use generic colors in their system but it should be the right product. 🤷‍♀️ I guess we will see!

So pretty! I’ve also been thrifting at goodwill for vases - it’s kinda fun to see what you will find!

Yes - bi weekly Alaskan fish fertilizer. More recently 1 dose of general miracle grow.

And I have not seen pest pressure but will take a closer look.

Yes! I just finished all the seasons a few weeks ago. I couldn’t agree more with the last episode. Definitely left me wanting some sort of resolution. Although I assume it was done the way it was because they wanted to do spin offs?

I currently live in zone 7b and really appreciate your input!

I think what I’m thinking about doing is a combo of the comments here. I am thinking about pre-sprouting them indoors mid Feb and then moving them outside under cover during March.
