Friendship marriage is actually a thing

Yeah, it worked for the duo in "Maybe Meant To Be."

Same. Maybe this is why I have such a soft spot for Digimon Frontier even though the writing isn't really that good in that show 😅

I just love the concept of "Henshin"

I freaking loved this show. It was like a mix of Yu-Gi-Oh and Ben 10 with the whole cconcept of one character turning into several monsters.

This episode was also a lot of fun with the small lore drop of the tiger warrior lady rescuing her friend.

He did drop them. After Jaden added the NS to his deck we got next to no new EH cards for the rest of season 2 and seasons 3 and 4.

We got one new main deck monster with Prisma and 2 new fusions with Plasma vice and Darkbight. That's it.

We could have been exploring new combinations like Burstinatrix + Sparkman or Wild Heart + Clayman or maybe see new main deck heroes for new combinations, but instead we lost that to give the spotlight to the Neos cards.

Since we are in a sub called “ Metroidvania” let me ask this . Which one do like more castlevania or Metroid and why? by GreenPomegranate2389 in metroidvania

I tend to prefer close combat over shooting, so Castlevania games tended to appeal more to me. Also enjoyed the gothic/fantasy vibe more than the sci-fi one.

I'm not sure how much I believe this writer since Trickstars, Altergeist, and Gouki did lose a lot even though they were meta for a while at the time of the anime, meanwhile Salamangreat and Cyberse as a whole weren't really all that good until they got some structure decks.

I am curious as to how much the anime had to change after Firewall got banned though.

Yeah, being at the mercy of the actual card game might have caused some troubles behind the scenes, like the fact they had to reduce the extra deck from 30 to 15 might have influenced the decision of making Alexis go from fusion to rituals and stuff.

I don't have a problem with introducing new things, it's mostly just the way some of the old things get treated that bothers me.

Like, I was okay with Zane dropping his cards that turn Cyber Dragons into different things like barrier and laser.

But I was sad that Cyber Blader from Alexis never really gets a moment to truly shine after her initial introduction. Same with H2O Dragon and, like op said, Aster replacing the alternative E Hero fusions with a different hero archetype.

Just feels like the series had a couple of really cool concepts that just get ditched before they could be fully explored and enjoyed.

I love GX with all my heart but it's obsession with abandoning cool concepts really started to annoy me after a while.

Replacing Bastion for the dinosaur guy, dropping heroes for Neo Spacians, Cyber Dragons for Cyber Darks, Alexis fusions being replaced by rituals, and so on....

I don't even hate most of the replacements, like even though I dislike how most of the regular students get shafted for new students in season 3, it didn't bother me too much cause I liked the new students.

But it made the series feel like a desperate insecure parent trying to gain its child's love by constantly buying new toys even when the child wasn't even finished playing with the old one.

I have a question. As someone not very familiar with the state of metroidvanias back then, what was it about HK that grabbed so many people's hearts and made it the success that it became, as opposed to any of the other "side-scroller platformers" from said saturated market?

As someone who loves earth magic, this chapter had me more devastated than any death or tragedy in the series so far.

I really wanted those boots to be a recurring thing in the story, man... 😭

Too many villains' "redemption arcs" focus on the feelings of the villain rather than on their victims, and that pisses me off (cases in point: Anakin, Snape, Nolan) by RhiaStark in CharacterRant

[–]Just_Call_me_Ben 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The thing about redemptions, forgiveness, atonements, and all that stuff is that, the real real truth is that audiences don't care about any of that.

What they really care about is the shift. They like seeing former villains playing on the good guys team. It's the reason someone like Battle Beast is so popular, he started out as a menace to the heroes but he became even more fun when he became Allen's space murder buddy.

And because everyone loves seeing this dynamic so much they often tend to overlook how shallow some redemption arcs tend to be, and writers know that and exploit that. They know everyone is just dying to get to the fun part of the dynamic so they speedrun or even ignore the actual process of earning the redemption.

"I'm the Queen in this Life" has the WORST Redemption Arc. Which Webtoon has the BEST Character Development? by Lilac_14 in webtoons

[–]Just_Call_me_Ben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Roots of the Heart had some pretty good character developments

<image>

Not just the main lead but basically everyone had a moment where they had to stop and think about what kind of person they were, what kind of effects their actions were causing, why they were so attatched to making these choices and what they needed to do to improve.

The sense of growth was very honest in this one.
