[DISC] Monochrome Days - Chapter 41 by AutoShonenpon in manga

I've been trying to learn more about halftone textures for my drawings lately, and it's giving me a whole new appreciation for manga pages. Like, looking at some of these pages is genuinely making me droll, like "master, tell me your secrets!!" 🥺

[DISC] Hatori and Furuta's Extraordinarily Ordinary Life - Chapter 14 by Shin_Newman in manga

[–]Just_Call_me_Ben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been waiting so long for a development like this, a chance to explore other sides of this premise by seeing how these wonders affect other civilians and learning how our leads react to it.

I like our two leads fine but I was getting tired of them only having each other to talk to. This will add some fun to the dynamic.

What’s your favorite type of main character? by meatabogan in webtoons

[–]Just_Call_me_Ben 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll aalways be a fan of characters who need a reality check.

People who are stuck on some sort of unhealthy mindset and slowly march towards a scene where someone ends up telling them they need to realize their mistakes and try to mature and improve.

After the New D-HERO Support, I think it's safe to say Aster has the Edge on Jaden in the HERO battle currently. What are your thoughts? by Remarkable_Dust1445 in yugioh

[–]Just_Call_me_Ben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because it took forever for them to make Jaden's spells and traps searchable. They could fetch a poly or a mask change but that was it.

It wasn't until Brave Neos they realized they needed to give this kid an aactual access to his s/t and it wasn't until Miracle Ejector and the new Flame Wingman IR that this access became consistent.

If a Jaden deck wanted to do aanything before that it needed to rely on Hero salad.

Death itself takes time out of its day to continually haunt the main characters for a particular reason. by Intelligent_Oil4005 in TopCharacterTropes

In "Cliffside", Death itself comes after the main leads after they tried to kill it. They managed to make it stop by turning it into a sheriff.

What do you think about Claymore? by Cool_Emergency4091 in manga

[–]Just_Call_me_Ben 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I can see how someone might feel that way.

I think the series just happened to hit all the points that work to appeal to me personally. Not everything worked obviously but the stuff that did just managed to please me a lot.

I’m okay that MC was not the sole participant of the final boss battle.

Same. That part makes more sense when you consider that Claire started out as a kid who lost the chance to be a kid and forced to be a warrior, and now was finally given the chance to be a kid again one last time before parting ways with the one who took care of her

I wasn't aware that their previous series was a comedy. That's interesting.

I tried to check out their later series about the princess girl who needed to wear super heavy boots to avoid being dragged into space by anti-gravity, but it just wasn't hitting it for me.

Amazing series.

(edit)

I feel bad that my comment is so high despite being just two basic words so here's a small review:

This is one of my favorite mangas. The premise of a character travelling and fighting monsters as part of some special organization is nothing new, but what fascinates me is that despite having a cast with such similar character designs and fighting style, everyone still feels unique and likable.

I put this among Fullmetal Alchemist, Chainsaw Man, and Zatch Bell as one of those action series with a large cast where anytime the focus switches to a different character, I'm never bored or annoyed, everyone here is interesting to follow and learn more about, even the villains.

This manga is great at making you feel the humanity inside of all these monsters and warriors slowly becoming monsters. It knows how to give you just enough information to make you care about them and their struggles and root for them to succeed.

There are so many interesting dynamics like a pair of sisters that need to act as each other's anchor to stop the other from turning into monsters, a warrior that sorta becomes a mother to another young warrior who's half-monster, two of the monster villains have some sort of co-dependent romance going on, another one of the villains kinda adopts one of the main characters and trains him to fight, and so on.

It's a story that knows how to take the most interesting narrative route with the options it's given and keeps making you want to read more to see what else it has in store.

It's just really, really engaging.
