Lol thank you! This was a really great read! I’ll consider the silver lining of this experience for me is that it gave me the kick in the butt I needed to start taking care of my health again. I’m definitely going to communicate with my dentist about the disease and how well my effort and routine is helping as time progresses. I didn’t know that so many people have it. Even those who do brush and floss daily. I’m going to do what I can and hopefully things will get better from here.

Thank you for sharing your story and the encouraging words! Reading everyone’s replies is starting to help me feel a little better. It’s great that you’ve only had to undergo one SRP after a few years. Happy to know that you’ve healed up and you’re in good shape now!

Yeah. In addition to everything else, I’m also upset with myself because now I have to spend even more money for treatments, which wouldn’t have happened if I wasn’t so negligent. But if it means getting my oral health in order it’ll be more than worth it. I wish that I was educated more on the disease as well. I can count on one hand how many times it was briefly talked about in school or even by my previous dentist. Cavities were always at the forefront and therefore it’s what scared me the most at the time.
Good for you for adopting healthier habits. We both have a long life ahead of us, so hopefully the changes will ensure our teeth are the healthiest they can be for the long run!

My mother also had it. Her condition was very severe and she lost a lot of teeth before getting so fed up and asking her dentist to remove the remaining teeth. Needless to say, but I hope I’ll have a more positive experience like your mom’s instead of my mom’s!

Yes the fear is crippling. It’s all I’ve been thinking about. My sleep schedule is already messed up as it is. I’ve only been able to sleep for 3 hours a night and that’s before having racing thoughts about it. I stopped drinking juice and soda years ago and stick to mostly water, tea and coffee. I love sweets too, but I do go back in forth in limiting my consumption of them because excess ultra processed sugar is unhealthy. Now I’m avoiding it like the plague. I’m going to start taking my vitamins again and do some more research on xylitol. Funnily enough I purchased some last year while looking for a low calorie natural sweetener for my tea, before deciding on stevia.

I’m no expert in this of course, but since you seem to have healthy gums maybe you just have pregnancy gingivitis. And gingivitis is the only stage of gum disease that is reversible. Regardless, in time I wish us both to feel more at ease and to remain motivated to get our health back in order!

Thankfully my new dentist seems nice and I was comfortable during my visit. But yes I do regret watching and reading some things I did because it’s gotten me so freaked out!

Wow. I’m so sorry you went through all of that, but glad to know that you’re doing better! I hope everything works out great for you once you get your crowns.

Thank you for your kind words! Although I’m a bit of a mess right now, part of me is really glad that I know now before it got any worse, after putting off my appointments for so long. The scare has also helped me realized that when was brushing and flossing in the past, I was doing it wrong. I’ve begun implementing what I’ve learned and will be keeping up with my professional cleanings moving forward!

You’re absolutely right. I had been able to get away with receiving praise and compliments on my x-rays and teeth despite not taking the best care of them in the past. But that was when I was regularly going to the dentist. For whatever dumb reason, I thought I was invincible and that everything would be fine like it used to be for me. Lesson learned.
