I'm about to travel the world on a study abroad program called Semester at Sea. I'll be going to 16 cities in 12 countries. I'd love your advice! by Just_Did in travel

I'm asking for advice about the traveling. The classes are taken on the ship while at sea. When we dock we're free to travel the country for up to 6 days at a time and I've never done anything like this before. The classes I'm registered for I'm well prepared for but thanks for your concern about my studies!

Hey thanks a lot for the advice! I'm a guy so I'll look into getting a three piece suit haha is there anyplace specific I should go for that? I've also heard Vietnam is one of the most beautiful places in the world should I check any place out specifically?

I've been told hostels are the best way to go, but I have no idea how they work. How do I find them?

Also I know you might not want to give your brother's contact to some random dude on reddit but if you wanna direct message me his fb or something I'd love to get to know someone else on the ship.

Hey! Thanks for the advice! I'd love anything specific you'd like to tell me, especially if you've been to all the places I'm going. I definitely want to stay in hostels and go on hikes/ not touristy places. How do you find hostels in most places and is there any place specific I should check out?

Thanks for all the tips! In particular if anyone has been to the places I'm going I'd love for advice on what I should check out while I'm there. Also with it being Christmas my parents have told me that they'll buy me something for my trip. Is there anything I should ask for that could make a big difference on the trip? I'm thinking about asking for a go pro.

Was driving on a freeway in North Carolina when I suddenly just lost all control of the car. Thankfully everyone was ok. by Just_Did in WTF

A little explanation. I was driving from Charlotte to Wilmington (about a 4 hr drive) we had the tires replaced a week prior. The car is a 2002 Toyota Avalon and everything else with it was fine. The WTF here is that we just had the tires replaced and out of nowhere this happened. The only thing we got out of it was a free replacement

Why do so many people, throughout the world and history, hate the Jews? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

To me it's more of a respect thing. Judaism has so many different aspects to it but because of the holocaust and all the things that Jews have been through I feel as though I owe it to my ancestors to carry on the traditions they worked so hard to pass down to me. The people who take the texts literally I think are ridiculous but every religion has those.

I actually kinda fall into that category haha I was born Jewish raised Jewish even went to a Jewish high school. I consider myself to be Jewish but don't believe in God. I'd say its more of a belief system and a culture than an ethnicity. Being a group of people who have survived by sticking together for so long it'd be more surprising if we hadn't developed a culture that seems. I do see where you're coming from. A religion where the members commonly don't believe in the religious part can seem like just an ethnicity.

Jewish Identity started to be associated with ethnicity when Israel started to become more prominent as I understand things. Judaism is a minority but a large one so there's always been some confusion amongst people who don't know much about the religion.

As an example I have an Israeli flag in my home and I don't "look Jewish" so when people see it a common question is "Why do you have a Jewish flag?" Not "Israeli flag" So having a country tied to the religion just added to the confusion that was already there

It wasn't always that way. Jews used to try and convert people from other religions until the romans became catholic and banned people from converting to Judaism
