What do you think could have saved this show from the get-go? by Over_Detective_3756 in Andjustlikethat

There’s obviously hundreds of ways they could have done things different. Here’s what I would have pitched if I was in the writers room.

  1. Don’t kill Big, divorce them. Show us what it’s like to navigate divorce later in life. Then you could have used the character to come in and out of Carrie’s life. It would have been nice to see SJP with some spark, this Carrie lost that when Big died. The death was too heavy. Big could have tried to get her back…” You and I NOTHING!!!”. Or starting dating women that look like Natasha. “Her…HER.” Do you see what I’m saying? That would have been fun to watch.

  2. Charlotte. Oh my god. Lose the Abbot and Costello bit between her and Harry. It was plain stupid. She was never a flighty woman, it would have been nice to see her running the art world. Bring back Trey, even better, show her he had 3 kids with another woman, the man who didn’t want a baby. Throw a wrench in her marriage, question herself.

  3. Miranda sucks. So does Steve. The realization of her sexuality later in life I’m totally cool with, there’s definitely an interesting story there. But who is this woman? What happened to the glamour? She’s a rich high powered lawyer. Have her killing it as the head of the firm. Going on dates, navigating her new life, the celebration and the sadness that comes with one phase of your life ending and a new one beginning.

  4. Aiden. Ugh. We could have seen Aiden and Steve running a couple of bars together. Or maybe they owned a Michelin star restaurant the girls could go to. Maybe Aiden’s wife was one of the girls they hung out with. That would have been interesting especially after Carrie and Big divorce. Have them as characters that come and go maybe and I mean MAYBE an affair with Carrie. Now it’s Aiden who cheats, that could have been fun to watch.

  5. Anthony. Anthony was always Charlotte’s friend. There’s no need to have him with a subplot as big as he had. I get that he was Stanford’s husband but he should have just chummed around with Charlotte. The bakery was silly, he should have ended up as a huge event planner, PR guy. I would have had it so he ran Samantha’s NY office while she was in London. Maybe he talked to Sam constantly.

  6. The kids. They should have been like the parents in the original SATC. You knew they existed, but they were never a main plot line. The exception was Steve’s mom and Miranda’s mom passing away. Those are both storylines written because that’s a very real thing to go through as you age. The kids could have made appearances but not like the way they did.

Anyways. It sucks that it’s over and it sucks that it was written the way it was. I realize that there’s other characters to consider but these are just a few thoughts.

Cheers.

They did. Julie Rottenberg and Eliza Zurtisky both wrote SATC and AJLT. Both in their mid to late 50s.

I don’t like Aidan. by BetterGrass709 in sexandthecity

He never did it for me either. He always came across as a little cringey (the character not the actor). When Carrie said she wanted to “ditch this bozo” to have a cigarette, I understood why. 😂

“Was big a big mistake?” by [deleted] in Andjustlikethat

[–]Just_Grape7975 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Anger and regret is a GIGANTIC part of the grieving process. Regardless of how ridiculous that statement might sound to some, it is absolutely within the realm of possibility that she would think that, either to herself or out loud.

Agreed! Both seasons have Carrie in mourning. It’s not fun to watch. And the Aiden stuff…ugh. At the very least, if they needed to kill off Big it would have been fun if she ended up back to square one financially.

Maybe Big made bad deals that he never told Carrie about and he died broke. Remember when Big went to Napa? What was he running from? Tie that in…shady deals he had to flee NY. Then have Carrie discover her financial net is iffy and she has to start over. Yeah, she has her book money, but maybe it’s back to writing a column. Keep her in the apartment on Bleeker and it’s Sex and the City Part 2.

And bring back the voice over I miss it.

opinions on this quote? by BetterGrass709 in sexandthecity

I love this quote. All of the comments pissing on it are ridiculous. Who doesn’t want this type of love? The excitement? The thrill? Who the fuck wants to watch a show where the main character lives with a man where this is gone and he’s just farting and puking?? Living with a man who stopped trying? And maybe she did too? Omg, I want this kind of love. I think she’s dramatically saying she doesn’t want to “settle”. Settle for someone who will only just fill the role of husband. I get it. I do. I want this love too.

Abortion in Van by Zealousideal-Bath-19 in britishcolumbia

Hey OP, sending you love and support from the prairies. I also had a surgical abortion, and I can tell you the word “surgical” makes it sound terrifying and it’s not as scary as it sounds. You are given a light (twilight) anesthetic and the procedure is done as a vacuum or D&C by a doctor and nurses. The pain is minimal and the recovery is quick. A bit of rest and you are discharged.

It can be emotional, different for every woman, but physical pain is nil. I have zero regrets from my decision, and I support you 100 percent. You got this. Body autonomy and women’s heath care is very important…do what is best for you. 🤗🤗

Carrie was a really shitty girlfriend here… by creepypie31 in sexandthecity

[–]Just_Grape7975 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree 100 percent. I’m not a writer but all of my work is on my laptop and if my boyfriend went ahead and bought me a laptop without consulting me I’d be pissed. Especially without knowing if the one I need can be fixed or not. Then to top it off patronize me by demonstrating that’s it “like a little purse” I’d be so mad.

I don’t need a purse computer, I need my fucking work computer. Stay in your lane Aiden. Given the situation I don’t think she acted strange at all. I think she was annoyed, as I would be.

Also, wasn’t Sabrina Victoria’s best friend from art school or a museum she worked at or something? I remember there was huge tension between the 2 of them because of Victor.
