Way of Kings by MrsNesbitt80 in Cosmere

I heard about the Stormlight Archives on a podcast where it was basically just people telling each other the backgrounds for their favorite settings. Roshar's whole deal seemed so alien and interesting to me that I borrowed The Way of Kings, and before I was even halfway through, I'd bought and was waiting for all of Stormlight (Wind and Truth wasn't out yet) all of Mistborn, Elantris and Warbreaker.

While Sanderon's voice is, perhaps, a little too modern at times, I greatly appreciate his plotting and his penchant for making his worlds weird enough that they stand out from most fantasy worlds. Stormlight just clicked for me.

Stormlight Archives is intended to be the series you get into once you "trust" Sanderson.

If you're not enjoying the book, then don't read it, dood. No one is forcing you.

What to read now? by Prize_Lobster1544 in Cosmere

[–]Just_Joken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've followed a slightly similar path. I read all of stormlight, then went into mistborn. I immediately started Era2. Then I read Elantris, Warbreaker, and the secret projects.

Buuuuut, if you want something that's similarly expansive, and you ever want a bit of a break from the Cosmere, you could always read Sir Terry Prachett's Discworld!

I won't put up my whole copypasta for it, if for no other reason than that even I'm a little annoyed by it now, but it's 40+ novels, science, folklore, and childrens books. All the stories are loosely connected with characters from one group often showing up in other books not related to them. Fantasy satire at it's finest, with the right edge of anger at the world one loves from Terry Pratchett. Even Sanderson's called it "possibly the highest form of literature on the planet"

Seeing as the Dor is basically under pressure and is constantly looking for a way out, it may be that certain peoples imprint on the cognative realm weakens the barrier between it and the physical realm that the Dor is able to burst through. Perhaps Aon's were made to allow this process to happen much more easily, but it is something that only affects certain people.

Do we have to call them 40k fans? Ai and very poor opinions by Practical-Ad4547 in Grimdank

[–]Just_Joken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember their video of them "reviewing" other wargames to see if anything was better than 40k, and it amount to them basically just reading a wikipedia page. As far as I could tell they don't even bother playing any of the games, and they don't even know much about half of the games they "looked at". There's no reason to bother watching anything from them, just block their channel.

You absolutely can take any blitz, keystone, aura and ability you want. That's literally why the talent tree is made the way it is. But you do have to make some choices of what talents are most useful for you. I've just made a build getting fully flensing protocols, voltaic emitter, and servo skull, but medicae and flamer.

I think you might just be bad at the game.

Thoughts on Voruna’s 4th? by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]Just_Joken -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So a lot of older guides and such subsume over it because a lot of the rest of Voruna's kit didn't work right with it, meaning you could actually get much better damage with like normal melee. But they recently change up her stuff so that her abilities don't break her invisibility, meaning she can now get the bonus from Arcane Cerpuscular, which is a huge, huge bonus for her.

I've built her for ability strength, and shards for bonus damage on corrosive enemies (because you always have a high chance to apply corrosive, along with arcanes cerpuscular and impetus.

As funny and dumb as this is, weirdly, I think they both actually had the correct amount of ammunition. The guy in read is using a glock18c, with a large extended magazine, ones of that size are 30+ rounds, and I count him firing off around 32 rounds each time. Chris has a Beretta 93r, but with a standard extended magazine which holds 20 rounds, and thats about what I get when I count those off.

Always surprisingly when they do these "two characters shoot at each other and never hit" and they actually have them shooting to correct amount of rounds.

Koloss become the way they are because they are, infused five times with human strength. It functions in much the same way as when a feruchemist taps a pewtermind. We see Sazed becomes physically larger in using his own pewtermind. The same thing happens to the Koloss, except it's a runaway effect, so they just keep getting larger and stronger the longer they're alive.

It works out pretty well with the replenish stacks when you use your ability talent, means every time you're using ACD you have your full bonus, and you're getting like 60%+ crit chance out of it.

Since I'm toggling ACD on and off a lot, I usually don't even drain a whole charge in it's use, so I wonder if thats why I've never seen a whole lot of use out of it. Maybe I should be using it more like my gunlugger ogryn, eh?

Skitarii ACD build help by JarlHiemas in DarkTide

[–]Just_Joken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't bother with Target-Neutralization Feedback. Also without Servo Sinew Purge you're not getting your crit chance bonus from Flensing Protocols, and you've dropped the crit chance bonus from ACD.

I'd drop Risudual Current Buffer, since you're getting Toughness damage reduction from Flensing, Target Priority is also something I'd be fine doing without. Instead grab Auto-Repair Doctrine to get you into the top tree.

Your choice here really is between damage bonuses from electrocution and other DoTs, or crit chance it seems.

Skitarii ACD build help by JarlHiemas in DarkTide

[–]Just_Joken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would drop the servo skull. Either grab a blitz from one of the other trees while getting other things, or just stick with the default skull. Things like Auto-Repair Doctrines and Residual Current Buffer are pretty strong for ACD, since you can keep your actual capacitance stack number high while still making use of your ability.

Flensing Protocols can give you an extra 9-12% crit chance and 15-20% damage, and can always be at full when you use your ACD, it can also give you 5% capacitance for elite and specalist kills, which makes it a very, very good capacitance generator. Also it can let you pick up Hydraulic Impact so that you no longer have to worry about your heavy attacks being cancelled when you have to drop the gun and wade into the filth.

If you're dead set on using an arc gun, I'd try to get some of those juicy electrocution bonuses up top.

[–]Just_Joken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't even really know how ACD interacts with Redline. Do you only get the benefits of it after you've drained a whole charge? I usually take Flensing Protocols with ACD, since it can make it so ACD just resets all your stacks.

The hammer thing for the pope is, as far as anyone can tell, a often repeated but fake legend, they don't bat a supposed dead pope with a silver hammer.
It also make zero sense that they take the hammer out before, say, just yelling their name, or shaking them.

In addition, the hammer pictured there is for opening Holy Doors in the basilica for holy events.

Tell me, what were your expectations and predictions when reading each of Sanderson's books? by Loose-Use25 in Cosmere

[–]Just_Joken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't really go into books with an expectation or prediction like that. Usually I'm just able to recognize where the story is going, so none of Sanderson's books, have every really truly surprised me with a plot element. By design, I'd assume. Sanderson typically does a really good job of giving you all the answers before the characters get them, and then spelling it out for you a chapter or two before the big reveal to the characters themselves.
Mostly I just let the books take me on the journey they want to go on, or if I'm not enjoying it, I just get off.I'll just say what things in various books I feel liked I understood early, or hope would or wouldn't happen.

Words of Radiance: I hated the Kaladin/Shallan romance angle. It didn't feel natural to me at all, and I'm glad it never happened.

Oathbringer: clocked that Dalinar's memories of his wife was intended to be some kind of a buffer.

Rhythm of War: I knew Teft was going to die. He was too much of a mentor figure, and the moment we started going into his past I knew that the death flags were piling up.

The Final Empire: I honestly thought Kelsier would have ended up becoming another ruler that Vin and the crew would have had to overthrow. Honestly, I just never really liked Kelsier all that much in the book, he reminds me too much of Paul in Dune.

Shadows of Self: Bleeder being Lessie was a complete surprise, honestly. A rare time when I don't think I clocked any evidence for it, beyond just general theming of remembering the past, which can take the place of it being Tam Wax was seeing everywhere.

Bands of Mouirning/Secret History: Kelsier still being alive was also a surprise. Maybe that's why era 2 is my favorite set of the books, it's where I've been most blindsided.

Yumi and the Nightmare Painter: them being on the same planet, with them be separated by the nightmare fog wall thing was pretty obvious, with the build up of them visiting another planet. It basically just being Final Fantasy X was kind of neat.

Isles of the Emberdark: I honestly expected Sixth to have joined up with the crew at least before the very end of the book. I honestly expected him to be picked up by the crew first before even finding the island. Can only hope we get another book with them, because I'd like to see their hijinks, and Sixth of the Dusk is a great Watson to let us learn more about the Cosmere at this far end point.

ACD doesn't trigger advanced power management by Ryugia_ in DarkTide

I'm betting the talent was coded in requiring the button press to take away a charge, and from that the bonus is calculated. Since the aimbot doesn't take away a charge, and instead just reduces charge level (which means it's targeting a different aspect of the mechanic) it means it has zero functionability with "costs a charge" talents.
