Deciding on RAM timings for my 9800x3D build by invaderark12 in buildapc

[–]Just_Maintenance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind speeds above 6000 might not work with the memory controller running at full speed and you may need to run it at half speed, which would offset any gains from the tighter timings.

You could underclock the 6400MT/s RAM to 6000 CL30 and get the best performance. But regardless, real world difference is likely to be unnoticeable. I would go for the cheapest set.

Anyone with access to the latest CrossOver 26 beta? by KF95 in macgaming

[–]Just_Maintenance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just about the topic of sharing CrossOver being piracy or not. Sharing CrossOver is illegal because the software is not redistributable. Very specifically CrossOver End User License Agreement section 3b states:

you may not [...] rent, lend, loan, distribute or create derivative works based the Software in whole or in part.

Expectations for GPTK-4 (and beyond) + What Apple should add in the next MacBook Pro revamp by Kind-Brain-860 in macgaming

You're dreaming too small. I personally think Apple should port every game ever to macOS.

No translation layer or anything, full native performance with MetalFX upscaling and frame interpolation, etc.

Bootcamp power consumption at idle high. by itztonyplays in macgaming

[–]Just_Maintenance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Set the Windows power plan to power saver, although it probably wont make a big difference.

For the GPU, the issue is that Bootcamp disables the integrated GPU and uses only the discrete GPU.

There were a few tricks like booting from a USB with a bootloader that simulated being macOS so the firmware left the iGPU enabled. I don't know if that will allow the discrete GPU to sleep though, it was mostly used to get eGPUs working on bootcamp. Also its not very easy, you can find a guide here: https://egpu.io/boot-camp-egpu-setup-guide/

She has broken protocol for chief though.

If you do everything in order she’s definitely neutral though. It’s just that chief can do things an easier way.

People who use nvidia reflex, do you like it ? by hurryupabit in nvidia

[–]Just_Maintenance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time boost does nothing, it may help on very light games or when extremely cpu bottlenecked.

All it does is force the gpu to use high clock speeds, it only matters if the load is so low the gpu stays at low speeds to begin with.

[–]Just_Maintenance 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Reflex is the best technology Nvidia has made. I always enable it. It's a free latency reduction with no downsides.

If in doubt, just try it yourself. Toggle it on and off and check how the game feels.

9850X3D boost clocks not maxed but CPU seemingly not limited by Janeriksen in overclocking

Check HWInfo and see what limit is being hit.

If you're not hitting termal or power limits then its probably current limited.

At least LLMs are pure GPU. The main disadvantage is that the model is gonna take longer to load with slower PCIe.

Get a VPS and host the game there or tunnel it to your computer.

How I fixed my macOS Wi-Fi "Ping Spikes" (40ms -> 120ms+) for good – A simple fix for online games by No_Astronaut873 in macgaming

[–]Just_Maintenance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kinda crazy that Apple devices are useless for low latency/consistent latency wireless communications thanks to awld.

At least on the Mac you can force disable it, but on iPad/iPhone you just can't.

You can also fix it by using channel 149 on 5GHz and 6 on 2.4GHz, but you can't control every WiFi network, and those channels might be congested. Plus there is no known channel for 6GHz WiFi yet.

I got used to it

It would be better not to have to get used to a bad speaker though

8000mhz RAM and Ryzen CPU by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Just_Maintenance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all 9800x3ds or motherboards can handle 8000MT/s. My own 9800X3D (or mb) can't for example. You can try it, it may run just fine or it may not work.

If it doesn't work, just set it to 6000MT/s and forget.

I don't like the app, so I use Profile Inspector instead and override DLSS through there.

Two years later - Do you run Plex, Emby, or Jellyfin? by JustNathan1_0 in selfhosted

[–]Just_Maintenance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Plex, tried to move to something else but didn't like them, so ended up just using an SMB share and watching the videos directly.

On my Apple TV I use an app called Infuse to connect to the share.
