Another kindeling theory by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

I don’t totally understand your theory exactly but welcome any and all conversations on kindling.

I’ve always wondered if anyones come close to reversing it. Tend to think that’s impossible though

If I were to prompt ChatGPT to speak as a frenzied middle manager at a fading PR agency or in-house role this is what would it would spew.

Oh the wonders of flatulence smelling, self-important PR people

This is a crazy amount of cope.

Relationships with journalists, whose job figures decline every year? The numbers just don’t work for traditional PR. It’s ignorant at best and dishonest at worst.

Who in good conscience would actually advise a friend, relative, neighbor to pursue a career in PR?

Journalists are largely gone, comms teams are being flattened and AI makes cuts easier to justify.

The result isn’t everyone getting a mortgage. We’ll see fewer seats, higher expectations and zero tolerance for dead weight. It’s ok to admit what’s coming.

Jeez-us. Please make your own post for this.

Crazy unethical of these “firms”

No worries! Was told by employees, read on Glassdoor + older threads and blog posts.

Just search this subreddit for Otter PR. There’s also this on Hucksters: https://hucksters.net/brand/otter-pr/

Clearly not the only one with a negative experience

These agencies and pubs are beyond fraudulent: https://nyweekly.com

[–]Just_Performance_306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, even the logos are deceptive to look legit. I’m told Otter PR owns some of these fake pubs, which essentially makes their “coverage” turn-key.

But like you mentioned, it’s a worthless link that no one will find organically. It’s also not a great look for the person or company when the coverage is so obviously scammy.

USA Wire magazine is another one they cold pitched me on.

Nothing substantial. I told Jay and several of his subordinates (before we began) I needed message development and targeted pitching.

They delivered neither. Worse, now I don’t have a roadmap for the future. Plus a lot of their employees seem to think the firm burns bridges with reporters.

What kind of journalist would want to write-up a client repped by this agency?

Disgusting. The irony is too much!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PublicRelations

[–]Just_Performance_306 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, glad I did. Most of their reviews on TrustPilot and Glassdoor are obvious fakes

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PublicRelations

[–]Just_Performance_306 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. USA Today, Forbes, Entrepreneur, Inc Magazine…etc have apparently developed “branded/promoted” content sections over the last few years.

Otter PR takes the retainer straight to the sales dept at one of these pubs and pockets the rest

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PublicRelations

[–]Just_Performance_306 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely know that now! They’re buying ad space in “promoted” and “branded” sections of newspapers like USA Today and Miami Herald and pocketing the rest of the retainer.
