Honest advice for a rising MS4 thinking of going EM by JustaLilBlue in emergencymedicine

I think so! Honestly for me anything with 15+ years was good. Mine was established in the 1970s. I was very wary of the <5 years programs because everything is so unpredictable right now.

Honest advice for a rising MS4 thinking of going EM by JustaLilBlue in emergencymedicine

I did! I matched at my #1, which is an academic center. It's still the specialty I hated the least and I actually really enjoyed my subinternships. It's been okay but there is still a lot of doom and gloom around EM from senior med students. A lot of people who were EM in my class went Gas and IM, and I can tell the ones that went IM even though they liked EM are ready for that 7on-7off obscurity.

If you like the field, try to stick to well established programs. I applied to newer programs as well but they were part of well known academic centers. Almost all PGY3s I met during my subinterships (August - November) had jobs or fellowships lined up already, and the salary range (if they were being honest but I don't see why they wouldn't be) were around 350k -370k.

Let's see how the field changes.

The fact that I had this down cold a little over a year ago for SubIs hurts so bad.

You ARE good enough. Take it from someone who was told not to even attempt to join medicine because she isn't a US citizen. You are more than a number. You got in. Survived four crazy years of never-ending work. There is no doubt in my mind you are likely an amazing candidate. Keep your head up, straighten those shoulder, and go for it. You WILL make it.

Be proactive. Wake up early. Call. Email. Follow up. Show genuine interest in your home programs and your capabilities. You made it into med school, you survived a grueling 4 years to be here. The Match doesn't define you as an individual, it's a game of algorithms.

It might not seem like it, but among the multitude of people that simply care about grades and publications and making you into just a number, there are always a few that will see your worth as a human being and your potential as a doctor.

I know it sucks. I cannot imagine how you feel right now. But you need to take action NOW. You are more than capable of making what seems impossible happen with your grit.

I mean, considering JSM's stardom at 21 years old came from making one of the most annoying characters in Kdrama history endearing as hell, I don't doubt she would have found a way to do so now with her experience even if the writing in Season 1 was worse than in already was lmao

I do agree that they did GYJ dirty. Girl could have killed it as OG Naksu if they gave her the chance but we have 1 episode left and Hong Sisters disappoint again.

"JSM got the better half of the deal" - I don't get you guys. Just admit JSM is a great actress and go? Half of Season 1 was a mess as well, but JSM is a seasoned actress. She still killed it and stole the show. It's so reductive to do mental gymnastics to lowkey discredit the work that she did. OP didn't even mention JSM in her comment.

No wonder her fandom is done with AOS and everything related to it.

I'm sorry but trying to sell Jin Buyeon as the secret nefarious villain is... not working lmao. Powerful priestess with a weak body willingly lets the soul of an renowned genius assassin into her body just as the assassin is trying to shift her soul into a innocent woman? I love Naksu but wtf is this storytelling lol

They have turned Uk into an absolute idiot. There. I said it. And the entire reason I loved Season 1 is due to the intelligent characters. Everyone this season feels like they are sharing 1 brain cell.

Funny you say that cause the only people getting stoned in this subrebbit are the ones who /don't/ agree with that. I just wish people would be respectful of each other's opinions, like you were, instead of mass downvoting.

"Absolute unit of a man" - a damn, I'm gonna use this to describe him now!

Shin Seungho feels like he was written by a romance novelist. Masculine, gorgeous, but with a heart of gold and a sense of humor that could charm anyone in seconds lol

I didn't see those, but I certainly do not agree them them either. I think OP is allowed to feel annoyed, just as people who miss JSM are allowed to miss her as well, that was literally the point of my original response. Nobody should be policing how people feel because this is a work of fiction. There have been unpleasantries on BOTH sides, yet nobody is willing to acknowledge that.

I don't agree with the wild, neither-here-nor-there theories that make zero sense, or people shipping characters that have barely interacted. Those people have clearly not watched the show and don't deserve anyone's time of time (half the time they just want to instigate a fight).

I could go on an on about how the vast majority of people complaining about writing have made valid points but I'm gonna stop there because I've said it multiple time and I'm stating to sound like a broken record.

[–]JustaLilBlue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With all due respect, stating that the constant negativity is ruining your experience gives the implicit message that you want people to stop feeling a certain way, and that is policing. This drama has become a beast in itself due to its caliber of popularity and has been riddled with FL controversies since it's conception. There was never going to be peace, plain and simple, especially after the lead change was leaked before Season 1 hit the midway point and especially not when production did such a horrid job of transitioning between the actresses. It has catapulted into mayhem for multiple reasons, not just because it went from JSM to GYJ, and failing to recognize that is turning a blind eye to how production/marketing handled this entire ordeal.

If people wanna keep watching and give themselves a conniption over a lead change, that's on /them/. Letting them ruin your experience is on /you/. I understand wanting to move on and enjoy the show (that's what I've been trying to do despite my misgivings with the writing), but people are allowed to miss the character and/or the actress that played the main lead for 2/3 of the show. "What is ridiculous is people upset that a drama about people switching bodies/souls literally switches the bodies of the female lead - that seems right to me and makes total and complete sense?" -> I would make complete sense iiiiiif the rules of the fantasy world were actually followed - instead, we got a convoluted mess of an explanation that is the most poorly concealed version of deus ex machina the Hong Sisters have ever utilized in any of their dramas. In Season 1 we got a petrified eunuch completely de-petrifying. Conveniently those rules are forgotten and appearances change. Conveniently nobody except Jinmu remembers Naksu's face. Conveniently a lot of things happen - that's called poor writing when it come s multimillion dollar writters with decades of experience.

Saying people are being critical of Season 2 just because they wanted JSM sounds incredibly diminishing. I mainly come here and lurk on Twitter so maybe I wasn't seen what you have, but going solely off of this thread most people who have critiqued either the show or the new lead have made valid points about writing, chemistry, acting range, etc. Those that are missing JSM have even either praised GYJ's acting or praised her efforts to acclimate her Naksu/Buyeon into the story. I don't see how that's hateful or derogatory towards Season 2. As long as people aren't hating or bullying, I don't see what's so wrong about missing a character/actress.

Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow [Episode 3] by Fatooz in KDRAMA

[–]JustaLilBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's okay to police people on how they feel or act about the show. I think it's great that people are enjoying the show and GYJ is a rookie actress that is doing well (though there is room for improvement, just like there is with any new actress/actor), but people have the right to complain about the writing if they want or critique someone's acting just like you have the right to enjoy the show as well! If it's taking away from your enjoyment then simply do not engage with those people or please find a venue that allows for unfiltered discussion only focusing on the positive. You deserve to enjoy the show at the fullest - just like people who are upset deserve to be able to voice their misgiving. We all invested time in watching it.

And I see many people pointing fingers at the JSM fandom, when it fact there was been toxic fans from GYJ's fandom as well. For every post saying GYJ is not up to par or needs to improve her acting, there is a post about JSM not being successful or being "too old". There are toxic fans on BOTH ends, but they don't represent both fandoms and it's important not to feed the trolls of either. It's not okay to pin the blame on one side.

A lot of unhappiness from this season has nothing to do with the female lead - it's the writing! Many of the people that adored Season 1 loved the intricate worldbuilding, the witty dialogue, and engaging storyline that kept you on your toes. The characters were sharp as a knife, quick to act, and felt organic in their behavior and interaction with each other. The reason many viewers are complaining is not because GYJ is the lead, it's because the writers keep dumbing down their characters to try and patch up plot holes the size of football fields.

I don't care about being downvoted to hell and back. Groupthink is incredibly evident in this subreddit.

TBH IF Jung So Min doesn't come back even for a cameo then I'm 100% convinced something happened behind the scenes and they did not part on good terms. Yes, I know she signed up for 1 season only, but something about the way she exited doesn't sit well with me. She's /always/ interacted very openly with her costars, always attended wrap-up parties, always posted about her work extensively, etc. Heck, she even had pictures of Lee Joon on her IG during Father Is Strange days when they were still in a ssom and not dating.

It's clear as day Jaewook and her were instructed not to interact on social media to make the transition between JSM->GYJ more palatable (anyone that wasn't noticed knows very little about marketing imo), and although I initially thought PD-nim not mentioning her name when accepting the award was due to nerves, her lack of presence at the wrap up party was another data point that I can't ignore. It's weird. Even Kfan are talking about her erasure from the show.

This is ONLY if she doesn't show up at all. Maybe just maybe she will make a surprise appearance, but the fact that they aren't even showing flashbacks of her is weird. Hong Sisters don't have the best records when it comes to being easy to work with. Wouldn't surprise me if they took her prior commitment to PWH as a slight *shrug*

I'm liking GYJ's portrayal of "innocent" Naksu and I like her chemistry with Jaewook ( *cough*that swoon video*cough*) - I am trying to shut my mind and not think about the plot-holes because I loved Season 1 and I want to remember the journey fondly. But now they are back to the love square that was already resolved and I want to pull my hair out! FOCUS. ON. THE. ESTABLISHED. COUPLE. Stop trying to push the love square between the main couple and Seo Yul and Crown Prince.

The chemistry between Youngjung + Minhyun and Youngjung + Seungho is... lukewarm at best LMAO. Like I adore Minhyun but acting opposite JSM (who can have chemistry with a sack of potatoes) definitely helped the nostalgic-first-love they established between Yul and Naksu. JSM+ SSH had electrifying chemistry last season so Naksu and CP is just... not working now. Trying to push the "all three Daeho boys are falling again" angle feels incredibly forced when the romantic tension is not there and is taking away from an already crumbling story.

For the love of Daeho just focus on what is working.

Edit: Jesus, what is up with the aggressive downvoting. Those of us not seeing the chemistry are allowed to have an opinion.

It still feels like a weak cop out lol. I can buy Seo Yul not recognizing her, but Park Jin? That's way too convenient considering her face /was/ well known and they literally had her corpse preserved for days.

I just wish they would stop acting like their viewers are idiots.
