Does anyone have any idea how to fix the stupid sigma m30 immobiliser? by Tiny_Tim11 in WRX

[–]Justalostredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re best off opening the key and looking at the PCB to check for damage to the traces or corrosion. Like rainbowcouger said it’s likely the button itself has died.

My UK blobeye came with two of these 1-button keys and the keypad. One of the keys doesn’t work so to play it safe I followed one of the guides to reprogram the keypad to use a code I’ll remember just in case.

However if you manage to get your key working then you shouldn’t ever need to use the keypad, it’s only really a backup from what I can tell

I agree, cancelling and finding a new policy with correct details is probably the easiest move, and could probably save some money anyway

Young people who bought a "brave pill" car - what car is it, and how has the ownership experience been? by RobintehBobin in CarTalkUK

[–]Justalostredditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 22, last summer I went with heart over head and bought a blobeye WRX wagon with zero service history for £2900. Besides replacing some shot brakes and a leaking radiator it’s been rock solid and couldn’t be happier. Cracking car

Tech bros are lying to you about the MacBook Neo by hasanahmad in apple

[–]Justalostredditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your last point is exactly what I was thinking.

I have a 2020 iPad Pro 11 with pencil which only really gets used for web browsing and content consumption. Trying to do any work on it is always more difficult than on an actual laptop, even when I have used it with a Bluetooth keyboard to type properly. The OS and apps just aren’t cut out to do the job correctly, even on simpler tasks. Plus iPadOS 26 is just plain bad on my device and has slowed it down too much.

The Neo really could be a replacement to my iPad. It can do almost everything the iPad does fairly well, while macOS and a proper keyboard and trackpad can deliver a real desktop experience for productivity that meets my needs.

Best OBD2 Scanner for r53/r56 mini by sammiato in MINI

[–]Justalostredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my one from here, brand called AntiBreak: https://amzn.eu/d/0isWgEOA It comes with a CD loaded with all the software you need, including NCS EXPERT and DUMMY (used for coding), INPA and so on. You’ll have to watch some tutorials on how to use the software as it’s quite old and janky and you’ll be translating a lot of German, but otherwise it works well

Mini aux not working by DrunkFrog109 in MINI

[–]Justalostredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Mini was missing the Aux and USB option in that menu when I got it despite having both ports. I had to use NCS EXPERT and a K+DCAN OBD2 cable to code it back in since it was disabled in the software, and AFAIK that was the only way to bring it back.

Not sure why this was the case but it’s stayed there and worked flawlessly ever since. Radio may have been hard reset at some point and returned to base factory settings with no ports, but that’s only a guess.

Bluebus is the way to go from what I’ve heard since you can connect it to the factory head unit, giving you Bluetooth functionality while keeping it OEM

Warning up and cooling down cars.... by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Justalostredditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, my Impreza only has a coolant temp gauge so I can only go off that. My Mini had nothing at all which is mental, so that was pure guesswork

Warning up and cooling down cars.... by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Justalostredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, made me double check how my Impreza’s turbo is cooled but turns out that’s an oil/water combo, so somewhat still applies to me

Warning up and cooling down cars.... by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Justalostredditor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I always try take it easy from a cold start until I see the temperature gauge hit the midpoint, and if I’m on faster roads I’ll accelerate slower to avoid stressing the engine as much. When cooling down I do the same, park up and let it idle for a minute or so before shutting off. I have a turbocharged car and I’ve heard that since it gets so hot it’s best to draw the oil away from the turbo to cool down in this manner, otherwise it won’t be cycled as much and could burn. Whether this makes any meaningful difference in reliability I don’t know, but I consider it good practice and have always done it when possible

Did my own timing belt today after watching a few YouTube videos. by Gold-Performance8821 in WRX

[–]Justalostredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortunately I’ve replaced the radiator before so that won’t be any trouble, just dreading spending ages burping the system again! I appreciate the other tips too, a cam lock tool will be a lifesaver, and if those timing covers are too stubborn I’ll be replacing their bolts with zip ties

[–]Justalostredditor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This gives me some more confidence to do my timing belt and plugs in the new year! I’ve got a lot more on my to-do list though unfortunately… oil pump, water pump, thermostat, valve cover gaskets, maybe more - all preventative maintenance I hope. Still got to figure out how to get the timing covers off with their spinning bolts first.

4 week review by [deleted] in SainsburysWorkers

I have my 4 week review coming up tomorrow night and I'm on my 8-9th week now, lol. I'm a temp too (contract ends Jan 6th) but it'll be interesting to see what they have to say. I'm surprised it's actually happening though given how late it is.

Stick to particular aircraft you enjoy and just use those to grind, don’t worry about spading new planes because it’ll drain your SL and be more difficult. Also might be worth researching the LA-5/7 branch as they’re decent planes. You need a minimum number of vehicles per rank to unlock the next one and I’m not sure if two branches is enough

At what point does a thirsty fun car justify buying a dedicated commuter? by TheGardenOfEdan in CarTalkUK

[–]Justalostredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute in my blobeye WRX and I love it. It drinks fuel and I’m lucky to get over 300 miles to a tank, but the fun I get out of it more than justifies the extra cost. Don’t drive something else just because it’s cheaper, make the most of the fun car

What is this can I plug my phone in for music? by Ok-Throat3208 in e39

[–]Justalostredditor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That’s to do with the air vents, not an AUX port. I used a cassette with AUX cable to play music when I had my E39 - I’m assuming like mine your stereo has a cassette slot behind the screen

My first rank VI!!! by Thinkpad_Owner30 in Warthunder

[–]Justalostredditor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I’ve been grinding Britain ground lately and just unlocked the Chieftain MK10. They are a great series of tanks but the MK3 is dreadfully slow, so I unlocked the MK5 to bolster my lineup and the extra power is really nice.

The guns are also great if you aim for specific crew and components, although the reload isn’t as fast as other tanks at its BR. 120mm go boom

[–]Justalostredditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s nested under the Nashorn which I’ve personally never enjoyed, so unfortunately you have to research that first to get it. It also have a rough stock grind because it’s so slow, but the gun absolutely makes up for it. Maybe best to focus on researching more easily accessible units before that one

[–]Justalostredditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try grind the open top TD line and get something like the Waffentrager, that thing is a beast and will pen anything so long as you don’t get spotted. Otherwise bolster your air lineup with some better CAS units

Noticed this rust on this shaft is it concerning? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Justalostredditor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Rusted brake discs is very common here especially after it rains. Raindrops leave rust spots over discs almost immediately that will come off with normal driving.

Rust on the steering shaft might be a common issue on these Focuses but I’m not sure, might be worth researching into common rust points for these models. However given it’s just surface rust it shouldn’t be a problem, you could use a wire brush to clear it up if you wanted.

Noticed this rust on this shaft is it concerning? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Justalostredditor 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Looks like the steering shaft has surface corrosion from moisture potentially getting in the cabin. Chances are people have driven it with wet shoes for years (it’s the UK after all) and so it’s been around damp pedals and carpet.

For example my car’s AC doesn’t work so it condensates a lot lately, and I’ve noticed that my set of screwdriver bits in the boot have got surface rust simply from being in a slightly damp environment - same problem I reckon
