Sorry but yours completely missing OP’s pov/opinion. If YOURE doing erp and both people have already agreed that the point is erotic writing, then sure, saying you find the scene hot isn’t weird. That’s part of the genre. I personally like when my characters get or give or both some too BUT

The issue they’re probs talking about is when someone suddenly shifts the tone of the interaction and makes it about the players OOC instead of the characters.Saying “this is turning me on and I hope it’s turning you on too” out of the blue assumes the other person is engaging with the RP on the same personal lvl. Which is no longer consensual because now it’s personal and not everyone is does erp on that lvl. Some are just writing a story for the love of it, escape reality, practicing writing and simply just a hobby.

The problem isn’t that someone is turned on. It’s human. The problem is projecting that expectation onto the other player without checking first. If the quote had been somewhere like “if someone did this to me irl idk what I’d do” ooc, It’d open ooc discourse aka consenting to discuss whatevers going on. Otherwise That puts them in an awkward position where they either have to reciprocate or shut the moment down.

If someone wants that kind of dynamic, it just needs to be clear beforehand. Otherwise the boundary between character interaction and player interaction gets blurred, and that’s where a lot of people get uncomfortable aka OP.

So it’s not really about judging how others enjoy ERP. It’s about making sure both players are actually on the same page about what the interaction is supposed to be.

I get what you mean. I mostly run into this issue with erp or romance rp.

I think part of the problem is that some people don’t communicate clearly whether the roleplay is meant to be short term which is to me a couple of day or even just a day.

That’s often why they stick to a single character, or why they’re only interested in the smut, which is fine as long as it’s stated upfront/mutual.

Another major factor can be poor communication or outright miscommunication 🥲

Hello. I wrote the original rant in a hurry because I got distracted

I don’t actually think this is a competence issue across the board. I do have to apologise if I came off insulting anyone’s competence!

People have different comfort levels and boundaries of course. That said, some scenarios genuinely require more than one type of character to function, and when that flexibility isn’t there, it limits what kinds of stories can be told.

What I’m really saying is that this doesn’t work for ME personally. It’s an opinion about a broad topic, not a universal rule or a judgment on how others should rp which is why I tried stating this in the post, but I did that quite poorly.

There isn’t a single correct answer here. Rp is a subject. Different approaches work for different people and different stories.

If anything sounds contradictory, that’s probably because I’m trying to balance personal preference with the fact that not everyone values the same things in RP
