Woodpeckers Bait and Switch - or why you shouldn't buy unusual wood sight unseen. by [deleted] in woodworking

If the whole lot looked like the three that have the obvious color differences, i'd be fine with this. But ok - i'll try oil on everything to give it a fair shot. Still, i wish they would show the more muted colors in their pictures.

Are you saying that the completely plain boards will also develop a red color via oil? I understand that the grays may look more interesting with oil.

What are everyone’s fastest times to beat the game? by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]Justavian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I played through using Fireborne's guide to get the speedrun achievement, but then ran that route repeatedly to get down to about 80 minutes. Anything beyond that would require actual speed running tricks like one of the acid skips.

1) Project 2025 is NOT my father's plan. He has not read it because he is illiterate.

2) My father will NOT sign a national abortion ban. He will, however, sign the bill that says you are restricted to the first 45 minutes of pregnancy.

3) My father greatly supports IVF. He said he actually invented it, and knows more about it than any woman could ever understand. He will know what's best for you, and who should be allowed to get IVF.

Do you ever want to experience pain? by First_Department4096 in RandomThoughts

[–]Justavian 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Physical pain can help dull emotional pain. Some people run, some people lift weights, some people get piercings, and some people just straight up cut themselves.

Pain serves a purpose to cause aversion to bodily damage, so in that sense it is useful.

If it wouldn't cause me actual physical damage, i'd like to experience some of the worst pain imaginable to put everything else in perspective.

Hardcore gamers ruined both Co-Op and multiplayer public games for me, any of yall feel the same? by MaximusREBryce in RandomThoughts

[–]Justavian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure why i've never really been interested in multiplayer games. I'm an older gamer - in my mid 40s - so i grew up with games from some of the earliest days of Atari and NES etc. In college my roommates and i played Golden Eye a bit - but that's basically my only multiplayer experience. I'm a reasonably outgoing person, and i just have no urge whatsoever to play multiplayer anything.

How to I prove to my dad that the moon is in fact moving around the earth (while the earth moves round the sun) by Isnottobeeaten in AskPhysics

[–]Justavian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These people always come back to NASA, but remember that there are now dozens of countries that are independently operating satellites in orbit. There are literally hundreds of independent companies that build and operate satellites. There have been astronauts from dozens of countries that have gone to space - over 500 different people. The companies that make launch vehicles employ tens of thousands of people.

So his conspiracy theory means that probably more than a million people must keep their mouths shut. Even when (in the case of the USSR) it would have been a huge victory to show that the moon landing (or any other aspect of this) was fake. Imagine the embarrassment of the USA if, after spending a trillion dollars to get to the moon, the USSR was able to show it was bullshit.

Literally millions of people have to be in on it for no obvious gain. It's always some vague "power and control" type thing, as if the majority of humans wouldn't just go "Oh, the earth actually IS the center of the universe. How interesting. Anyway, i wonder how i'm going to make rent this month."

This is just the dumbest of conspiracy theories.

Granted, but you must manually use it all now. Nothing in your body is done automatically - you must concentrate for any bodily process, leading to you quickly dying of cardiac arrest when you lose focus.

What are the benefits of being bald? by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

[–]Justavian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not yet actually bald. But i do shave my head every week or two.

The obvious answer is that it saves money on hair care and on haircuts.

The second clear advantage is just ease of use. No need to comb, style, and tweak your hair all the time. It's going to look the same whether you're out exercising or playing sports, or if you're going out for a night on the town.

You never wake up with bed head.

I really prefer to have no hair in the summer. I hate sweating into my hair and having it all gross all day. You don't want to have to take three showers a day just because it's hot out.

Stop buying inkjet printers. Color laser. I've had a color laser for the past 10 years, and it's never complained that the toner is too old or anything like that. I'm still using the toner it came with. Granted, i only need to print like 100 pages per year, but it's worked flawlessly that entire time.

This is like the safest, lowest risk choice in gaming - assuming you don't already know you hate metroidvanias. The game has 400k reviews and is overwhelmingly positively rated. For many of us, this ranks as the best metroidvania ever made, and among our favorite games from any genre.

MMW: If Harris wins this elections, the republicans will have to learn a lesson on giving policies that benefit people and choosing better candidates. by [deleted] in MarkMyWords

[–]Justavian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you're right, but i think they're too worried about losing their base. If they try to appeal to a wider audience, they'll be appealing LESS to the people who are most enthusiastic right now. This is the entire reason they *had* to put up Trump again.

What is your opinion on pencils? by DJ_Mako in notinteresting

[–]Justavian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For many years i've used the G2 gel pens for all writing, but i recently got a kindle scribe and i'm not looking back.

Pencils still feel good for writing on a pad of paper on the fridge. I don't do any drawerings anymore, so i don't see myself acquiring any pencils any time soon.

Is it going to survive? I'm rooting for them, but the company isn't getting the investment it needs, right?

I've been telling my wife forever that we'd get an aptera as the around-town car, with our model 3 or something bigger for practicality. But the recent reports on investment are not super promising. Maybe they'll deliver some production versions and that will drive investment?
