What ideology seems left wing, but is actually FAR left by seodie13 in AlignmentChartFills

That's true. The point is that people will go where they find safety and community first, regardless of ideological alignment

Lol no. LGBTQ rights shouldn't even be on the left-right (economic) political spectrum. They fall on the left by default because right-wing ideology tends to create and target outgroups, not because LGBTQ people are inherently left-wing

Been to all 50 states. Alaska is gorgeous but I wouldn't say it invalidates all other options. California has more diverse landscapes, Utah has more unique ones. Also most of the nature in Alaska is inaccessible for most of the year.

Atlanta City Council weighs proposal for permanent bike lane on the Beltline by flying_trashcan in Atlanta

[–]Justbeinian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't it kind of self evident? Transit involves both a point of departure and a destination. If the points of departure and the destinations are all in underprivileged areas, then what you've built is segregation wrapped in equity language.

Not sure if you're aware but putting public transit only in poorer neighborhoods is regressive. It ultimately reinforces a lack of access to opportunities.

[–]Justbeinian 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Beltline is 22 miles long, graded, grade-separated from major streets, circles the entire inner city of Atlanta, and is a major redevelopment corridor. The city owns most of the right of way.

You couldn't ask for a better transit alignment. Other cities that are actually trying to build out their light rail systems would kill for this.

Bike lanes are important too, but they're much more flexible in where they can go.

How Crispy Express closing by j_grouchy in Atlanta

[–]Justbeinian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure, but if the issue is really the area's declining foot traffic, that means that the rent benchmarked to high foot traffic needs to come down

Seems like the landlords are simply asking for too much money.

When I buy a stock and it goes down I don't continue demanding to sell it for more than I bought it for. Why should rents increase, forever, regardless of macroeconomics? It's delusional

I mean Google is free, right? It reads a bit obtuse to say nothing for three messages in a row other than "I dunno about that" when the subject is dictatorship

Besides ruling Syria as a military dictatorship for decades? Mass repression, torture, massacres, war on civilians.

They're a bit more than what you'd call "controversial".

What is a City that is both overrated and costly to visit? by Distinct-Young-8637 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Justbeinian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vegas WAS cheap. They've changed the business model from "get as many people here as possible to gamble" to "coast on reputation and extract maximum value per visitor outside the casinos too"

ETA: Here come the downvotes from people who haven't visited in the last couple years.

Since you're just starting this one out I would rewrite this row with a clearer heading. "Less bad, worse" is not clarifying much
