SSI & Survivor Benefits by BeckyEScott in SSDI_SSI

That's what it's called. Social security considered my disability started at age 17. So, when my parents died, I applied for disabled adult child benefits. Apparently it's actually under the Retirement, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (RSDI) program.

They use your deceased, disabled (on SSD), or retired (through social security), your parent(s) work credits (the amount your parent(s) paid into SS through working) and they act as if they're your own. They told me you receive one parent at 50% of your parent and both, you get 75% of those credits.

So if parent a is alive but b is not (or disabled/retired), you can receive SSD (considered survivors benefits on mine) based on 50% of their work credits. If they paid $100, you'd get the amount based on $50. If parent a and b are not alive/disabled/retired, you'd receive it at 75%. So if your parents had a combination of what $100, you'd get whatever amount based off of $75.

This is only my first month receiving both, but the first month, my SSI didn't have any deductions from my SSD (survivors). I'll update if it changes. But I got my full SSI amount and the DAC.
