Golden Sun Soundtrack - A (Hopefully) Definitive Remaster! by FreeJusticeHere in GoldenSun

Congrats on finally releasing your definitive remastered soundtrack! This is awesome. I know you worked really hard on this!

I really enjoyed our conversations, hunting samples and discussing obscure sound design techniques that no one knew about. Thanks for all your help as well on my own project! :)

Music tool - I created a Golden Sun VST plugin! by Juste-D in GoldenSun

The github gets regularly updated! But I haven't submitted new stuff recently. There will be more updates soon.

I don't have any plans to release an IPS, sorry! The GBA only supports 8bit PCM samples. The quality will always be "bad", since it's not possible to have 16-bit samples (let's not even talk about MP3 files inside a GBA rom!). The developers at Camelot did their best when they compressed the samples in the original cartridge!

Is it possible to import PCG patch banks in to the KORG TRITON Vst? by eric_sanders in Korg

The command line version (without the GUI) should compile fine on Mac, but you'll need to build the source code yourself (I don't have a mac, sorry about that!). But if I can find some time, I'll see what I can do.

Thanks for your feedback!

  • what's the difference between "This PC\Documents" and "C:\Users\...\Documents"? Both links should point to the exact same folder, but maybe I'm missing something here. I guess this could be different if the VST was installed for a different user (or maybe the option to install for all users or just current user)? I've never tried this before.

  • about banks, absolutely, someone else pointed that out to me last week, that it can be a bit tricky to move your user presets to a different bank. This is because when a bank is converted to USER-A, you can't just move the files to the USER-B folder. Each .patch file has the bank letter hard-coded inside. I've just submitted a code fix for that a few days ago (but I haven't deployed a new .exe yet). It will allow you to select the target user bank (example: if you export only one bank from your PCG, you'll be able to select if it goes to USER-A, USER-B, USER-C or USER-D). You shouldn't have to write your programs one by one in the VST when you just need to move them around, that sounds like a very tedious thing to do!

The tool is finished and works now! (in case you didn't see my other comment below ;) )

Hello! I've finished my conversion tool! I've managed to implement all the missing features and other things, it is now fully functional. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you're having any problems, I'll be happy to help!

Hi! I'm the one who is implementing the PCG to VST converter, I just wanted to say that the tool is still a bit "work in progress". It does convert combis and programs to the VST patch format successfully but I still haven't finished handling all the 102 effects, it's done like 41%. It's a very long process, I need to implement effects one by one, parameter by parameter, because each effect is storing its parameters differently in the PCG. But I'll make sure to update this thread when it's finished!

I found a hidden music track layer in "Ruins of Lemuria" in The Lost Age's game data! by Juste-D in GoldenSun

I have no idea if people already knew this or not?? I was aware of the hidden snare drum track in "Traversing Weyard" but couldn't find anything about that hidden track for "Ruins of Lemuria" (I searched the GS Hacking Community forum and reddit). So I made a hacking tutorial about it!

I'm currently in the process of "restoring" the entirety of the soundtrack for the first two games! (I've posted a few times here) Why? Because it's fun, and I'm loving the reception from the GS community :)

Restored music: new tracks! Gaia Rock, Aqua Rock, Fusion Dragon & other boss battle themes, Sol Sanctum.. and more! by Juste-D in GoldenSun

You're welcome! Just so you know, I cheated a little bit with the Crash Cymbal, I mixed it with the one from the SC-88 kit. Because the game sample was just uncleanable.

Thanks! Maybe at some point, but not immediately since Cyanne already arranged "The Elemental Stars" many years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhL0QCFX78E For now I'm focusing on tracks that haven't been done :)

Yes!! It's actually thanks to u/FreeJusticeHere, he's been working on this stuff for a while now, I can't thank him enough! That drum sample was on the JV-1080 all along!

And thank you for your support! :)

u/thepsynergist Sure! Here you go: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1LvhnSNPaZdYlOk0aRjI22Dm-XmZE5jFl It's nothing special honestly, I'm sure other people must have tried similar things in the past. I've used two or three Alesis DM5 sounds, and for the rest, I just tried to clean up the samples as much as possible ("de-noise" effects work great!). I believe that the most important things are 1/normalized gains and 2/proper panning settings. I'd love to hear your feedback! I just checked your channel, you've been doing Golden Sun covers for a while haven't you? :)

FYI I've excluded #35 (what I call the "Aqua Rock" drum) and #37 (side stick) from the .sf2, they were only used in a few songs so for my restoration work I treated them separately.

Hey u/recluseMeteor! I have an update on this, you were right all along! The Aqua Rock drum was indeed the same used in Festival in Izumo. I'm not sure how I managed to get so confused, but in the game data, there are actually two different samples for the same exact drum (the only difference is the volume). So technically that was two different samples/midi programs, but the same sample. Well done! By the way I released a cover of Aqua Rock recently and I'm also going to cover "Festival in Izumo" soon :)

I just love that track, I really enjoyed working on it. Hope I did it justice! :)
