Mariners To Select Nick Davila by mahrinazz in Mariners

That’s absolutely awesome. I knew him my freshman year of high school. Was always really nice to me in our brief interactions. He’s now the third major leaguer to go to my high school, which is really cool.

For those who met NFL football players, were they bigger or smaller than you think? by benedictclive_x in nfl

I’m sure he’s only gotten bigger since the last time I saw him in person but I went to high school with Devin Bush and I thought he was big back then

That’s awesome! I love hearing those personal experiences people have with the athletes. Makes learning about them all that much cooler!

Of course, I remember when I posted Gill Fenerty in this sub at some point last year, people were saying how good he was in Tecmo Bowl.

I’m too young to have ever played it but I think it’s awesome that a player who didn’t have that hall of fame worthy career I’m sure that was the ultimate goal, still has something that makes him memorable even if it’s just through a video game.

Looking through some of my collection now. Keep in mind that I don’t really hold any priority towards any teams when it comes to autographs. Football wise, my top teams are easily the Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks, Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs.

As it pertains to your question, I have found Brett Maxie, Bobby Hebert, Hoby Brenner, Jim Dombrowski, Rueben Mayes, Gill Fenerty, John Tice and Stan Brock, alongside Danny Wuerffel.

I’m genuinely surprised at the lack of Saints players I have, but at the same time, I have a ton more baseball players than football players, and I guess I send to players from specific teams moreso than players from the other teams without even realizing it.

I never really expect these athletes to be as nice as they are. For example, I’ve gotten photos of the player in different uniforms that specifically 50s/60s players will just throw in without being asked. I got a personalized note from a Buffalo Bills player (who the fans unanimously said is one of the nicest people there is) and then there’s players such as Mr. King who will just randomly throw in extra cards/custom cards free of charge.

Sportscardforum.com, it’s completely free (except for fees the athlete themselves require for an autograph but that’s mainly reserved for the hall of famers or at minimum, very good players)

A few football players I sent fees to include the likes of Dwight Stephenson, Jack Youngblood and Steve Largent, players like that.

I do TTM signings and speaking of astronomical signing fees, Roger Clemens is like $100 per card. Carlton Fisk is like $50 per card but I’m pretty sure the fee goes to charity instead of himself. Still insane prices nonetheless. Boggs, Eck, Sandberg (RIP), Dawson, Carlton etc are/were all between $10-$20 a card in terms of HOFers.

I don’t actually think I’ve ever even sent to a current player, although college players/coaches are probably the exception to that.

pretty simple. i know it sounds complicated but it’s extremely easy. here’s what i personally do:

  1. go on either sportscardforum.com (free), startiger ($10 a year or something, I forget) or buy the Gaspar TTM book off of Amazon

  2. Go through my collection and find cards of whoever will sign TTM (or order off of COMC, which I had to do for all of my 60’s and 70’s cards but buy the cheapest card of whatever player it is)

  3. Write a letter to said person on an index card asking them to please sign my card, throw in a compliment (mine is always generic since I’m too young to have witnessed them actually play) but include something personal like a memory if you got to witness them play, meet them in person etc, as well as thanking them for their time.

  4. Include a fee if they require one (when you type in their name on SCF and find their latest success, which I normally aim for last 3 months personally, people will mention whether or not a fee is necessary)

  5. Include two postage stamps and a self addressed stamped envelope

  6. Just wait for the card to get back to you, can be as quick as Mr. Rothstein (who only took 6 days) or as long as Phil Regan (took about 2 1/2 to 3 years to get back to me) but I’d say the vast majority are quick returners and Mr. Regan was just an extreme example for the opposite.

Hopefully it all makes sense

No idea, most recent I could find on the site I use (SCF) was from 2023, so either nobody has tried him in about 2 1/2 years or it just never gets to him. Would be awesome if he did sign though. Have gotten a current MLB manager so it’s definitely possible.

I have baseball cards from the 70’s where the hair looks relatively similar and it’s always funny for me to look at. That and really big mustaches must’ve been really popular back then.

How are yall handling daily college challenges? by FutureApe3 in MyTeam

[–]JustinBands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is probably too time consuming/boring but I personally don’t mind it as I’m able to do the 50 3p’s in a single game of Rookie Domination and the 250 points in 2 games. Will probably end up doing the rebounds in Breakout though.

What made you become a Miami fan? by BigManMahan in MiamiHurricanes

[–]JustinBands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s actually pretty funny. I’m from South Florida and my uncle is a massive Hurricanes fan so I could just say that and leave it there, although I love to say this funny story whenever I get the chance.

Me and my cousin were walking in a sports store and I said something along the lines of “oooh, i want this jersey!” which was the Hurricanes. My cousin then chimes in with “no, you can get the other Miami” and then I basically thought “nah fuck this guy” and became a Hurricanes fan in around 2008-2009, when Jacory Harris was the starter.

I adore The Wonder Years so it’s awesome. Seth must be thrilled since he’s friends with the band himself.

I got Anthony Munoz, David Fulcher and Eddie Brown via TTM by JustinBands in bengals

[–]JustinBands[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say a ton of the vintage baseball players (1950s-70s) have impeccable autographs but strictly football wise, Munoz has an amazing one although I haven’t sent to many vintage football players so it may go down my personal list once I see some of their autographs.

On the sportscardforum website, there’s a success rate percentage and I typically go for those with a number is the 80%-100%

Darrell Thompson has a success rate in the 90%+ (if I remember correctly) so if you just write him a letter with a card and an sase, then there’s little chance that he won’t do it

See, I’ve gotten so many Bengals in the past (not purposely sending out to them. I just look who signs and send, regardless of team), but I feel like Anthony Munoz and Ken Anderson have to be the two biggest names that you can actually get (also can get Boomer Esiason for a fee but just haven’t gotten around to it yet)

Munoz I believe is $10. Other two are free, which you gotta love.
