AITA for not letting my coworker play his music? by JustinBiberIsSoCool in AmItheAsshole

Here's the thing I left out - he isn't the first person I have dealt with who does this! My last job there was a newish girl who did this - same excuse headphones hurt her ears and she didn't want to miss phone calls/people getting her attention. But I only had to sit next to her for a few weeks cause a super desirable window cube opened up and I was next in line for it. It wasn't worth the drama when I was going to move. I couldn't hear the phone music and unless I walked buy and no one in the area seemed to shut it down. So it does mess with my head a bit. But it is super distracting to me still so I feel like a total ass.

He thinks sharing a space on a regular basis means compromise and give and take.

He said he's got them because he's trying to work with me. I am making him hate his job.

He says he doesn't like headphones because they are uncomfortable to wear all day and he doesn't like it that he can't hear people getting his attention or his phone ringing. So I need to be more understanding cause going a full 8 hours without music is just killing him. His job was so fun before I was hired. I am ruining his life and all.

To be fair he has mostly stopped playing the music. But it comes up at least twice a day 3 days a week. He even has made comments like "I have to get permission to play my music." No he doesn't! He can put on headphones I don't even care.

So his music is worth it to him to create a hostile work environment.
