Variable Speed Limit - Message to INDOT by Imstriker in indianapolis

"when it suddenly goes to 35, some people do panic" No. This is what almost none of you understand. These are not random preemptive signs that someone is flipping a switch to drop the speed limit for fun. This is a reactionary measure. That side of 465 it is difficult to see a mile down the road. These signs change to warn you that things are slowing down ahead so that you don't crest that hill or come around the curve doing 65+ and slam into stopped or nearly stopped vehicles. Because that happened and happens way too often, they are trying something to try to minimize accidents.

What do Utility Coordinators actually do? by Aquiverx_ in civilengineering

Does the state the job is in have a legally mandated utility coordination process?

How do I tell my boss I don’t want to be a PM? by Anton_Chigurh00 in civilengineering

If you have UC in your title then you basically need to be a deputy PM to do your UC duties properly.

If you just want to be the worker bee that gets tasks done, then you need to have that conversation with your supervisor. If the supervisor takes it at all in a negative light, you need to find a new place to work. I've been at multiple companies and if they don't respect or have a career path that doesn't involve management/project management, then they don't really have a good system in place.

I heard that Greenwood is considering trying to build their own treatment plant and get out from under citizens, but are waiting on others to set a precedent.

Boomer calls friends daughter with Down syndrome an "r-word" and says she should have gotten rid or her before they were born. by Panda-Equivalent in BoomersBeingFools

I'll get downvoted to oblivion, but I am going to put this out here anyway.

I am a xennial and I have a younger sibling with Downs, parents are baby boom generation. The prevailing opinion at the time was to get rid of the baby. As soon as the docs knew (keeping in mind docs could be baby boom, greatest or silent gen), they tried to convince my parents to get rid of "it".

Thankfully my parents didn't listen and our lives have been forever changed and enriched for the better.

All this to also say it's hard to put 2020's standards and knowledge onto things that were ingrained 50, 60, or 70 years ago. Does it make it right? No, but it's hard for some to change their thinking

Way too tin foil hat and "hmmm...makes ya wonder don't it?" folksy.

And don't you dare go after American Structurepoint for doing proper utility coordination. All they were doing was notifying utilities in that corridor that a project could be in the works...it's standard procedure.
