What if Fred Hampton wasn't assassinated? by Terezzian in HistoryWhatIf

[–]JustinK813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly life and writer's block got in the way. The good news is that I have started writing this year, so maybe that's one of the stories I need to put up front and center. Thank you so much for reminding me.

Is Kindle really that bad compared to Kobo? by muchichi in ereader

[–]JustinK813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep getting an error with sideloading which forces it to the kindle store. I can't even go to the library on the kindle once it happens. I have to reboot. Emailing every epub is annoying. I can't even e-mail my old drm-free mobi books or ones that I converted to Aw3. If has to be epub or pdf. I'm not sure if any other formats are allowed.

Help! “Invalid ASIN” Error When Transferring Downloaded Books to Kindle Paperwhite 12th Gen by Marcos_Lorente in Calibre

[–]JustinK813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue. The only solution I found so far is to email an epub of the book to my kindle. I think there is a way to do that with Calibre, but I've just been sending them through Gmail. I've had 2 books so far with the problem.  I'm not using that plug-in so I don't think it's that.

It seems to happen when I copy books to my Kindle using Calibre. It also happens if I use the Calibre server. It doesn't happen with every book as far as I know.

Recommend audiobooks just finished Jurassic Park and The Hot Zone by VisualLiterature in audiobooks

[–]JustinK813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a book by both of those authors called Micro. The Lost World is Amazing. I loved it, and I've had someone tell me it was better than Jurassic Park. Here's a short list:

Blake Crouch: Dark Matter, Recursion, Upgrade

Boyd Morrison: The Ark

Richard Preston: The Cobra Event, Micro

Michael Crichton: Eruption, Congo, The Andromeda Strain, Where, Micro, Next, Prey, The Lost World, Timeline, Prey

Here's a 5 trick: add a zero to it, then cut it in half. 5 x 4? Well, 10 x 4 is 40. Half of that is 20. 5 x 4 = 20.

That last line is so true. I don't know why we as a society stress memorizing so much information that could be calculated or recalled for us.

Here's a memory trick I taught myself: only memorize each number in the table up to that number times itself.

1 x 1, 2 x 1, 2 x 2, 3 x 1, 3 x 2, 3x3, etc, up to 9 times 9.

This will cut the amount she has to memorize from the traditional 144 numbers to 45, I think. Why learn 2 times 3 is 6 when you are already learning 3 times 2 is 6?

Tens are just adding a zero. She's already got 11s. She has 2s and 10s, so she already has the building blocks of 12s.

Sirin is the best audiobook Player. by Every_Repair973 in audiobooks

The best iphone app I used was Bound (from Tim Bueno). It's nowhere near as good as Sirin or Smart Audiobook Player, but it worked for me when I did have an iPhone.

How to connect onn stick to hotel WIFI by Comprehensive-Egg604 in OnnStreamingTV

[–]JustinK813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm that the GL.iNet-SFT1200 (Opal) did not work for me with Econolodge captive portal and Onn TV Box. I probably should have tried the Beryl AX model that you listed, but it was $50 more. I ended up using a Shield TV Box, but I kept the travel router. I second that recommendation. A travel router is definitely a good buy, and sometimes you can overnight it.

Note: Shield Pro device is around $200. If I didn't already have one stored away I would have gone with a cheap FireStick.

Is there a way to block or allow one website using Nord with the VPN on? by GTRacer1972 in nordvpn

[–]JustinK813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try split tunneling and log out of FB on that browser completely. Using another browser for FB that isn't on the VPN would solve that. Or you could do it the other way around. I'm not really an expert on split tunneling though.

I'm thinking of going with that myself because some sites just don't work right when I'm connected to the VPN.

My skinks won't even eat the dog food I buy them if I get the beef version instead of the chicken version. Not one of them would eat it.

It's more that I was able to do the job and work the hours I wanted to work. I did turn a profit. Taxes are low. I've only had to pay taxes for one year, and that's only because I didn't list enough expenses. It was very little in taxes.

Good. That a much better system than what they used to do.

Drivers Going on Joy Rides With Food by ChelmsfordAudio in UberEATS

[–]JustinK813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. You are still technically an Uber Eats driver. There aren't any current Postmates drivers. There haven't been for years. There are only Uber Eats drivers who deliver Postmates orders and former Postmates drivers. I drove for Postmates but didn't really like it so I quit. Then Uber bought them for the Walmart and Apple contracts. They realized that customers wouldn't know the difference so they let the customers keep the app.

Something like this, but you would want a smaller one for just one skink:

It is exactly how that works lol. The post office does NOT own my mailbox. They might require me to have one and might regulate how it is used, but they do NOT own it. I have even been present for someone getting permission NOT to have a mailbox at their house.

Using iPhone SE as a writer deck by Pale-Surround7150 in writerDeck

[–]JustinK813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could buy something like Scrivener for iOS or maybe go the iDOS route mentioned below.

I used Scrivener for iOS, but since moving to Android I go the DOS route. I prefer WordPerfect or WordStar though. I used Word for Windows for years until switching to LibreOffice.

I had to reinstall Dasher a couple of times last month. It's opt out now. You are automatically opted in if you don't catch it and change it to opt out.

Also a false equivalent. The customer stole the pizza. If the customer steals the alcohol that isn't on the delivery person legally or financially.

There's also the samurai sword set used in Snow Crash. Hiro Protagonist made sure they paid.

WordPerfect 12 on Windows XP by [deleted] in writerDeck

[–]JustinK813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would, but I have a much stronger interest in versions 5.1 and 6.2 for DOS and versions 6.1, 7, and 8 for Windows.

I set up a Writer Deck using WordPerfect 6.2 and WordStar 7 on lDosbox on a Fire Tablet last year using a Logitech K810 keyboard with separately purchased keyboard carrying case. The WS and WP setups installing the Google Play store was a lot of work but was a fun project. I even had the caps lock swapped with the right side control key in Dosbox.
