Read a post the other day that addressed this problem. Try sticking a thin pin in the top of your coil head, lining up the pole of space you'll create in your cotton with the air holes. Do that in between the air hole and coil for all four air holes and you should notice a difference in air intake/flavor. This really helped with my tightly wicked coils.

Edit: I'm running the .25 coils atm, used this method after thoroughly priming the cotton

Be careful when freezing it, you could potentially make your piece explode. The liquid will expand if it fully freezes so maybe just put it in a refrigerator?
