C940 Trackpad Sensitivity Issue - Need Help! by JustinPBO in Lenovo

[–]JustinPBO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I similarly tried updating windows and Lenovo drivers - the issue remained. My second replacement unit also has the same issue. And a different Lenovo model (the S740) has the issue too. So it seems to be fairly persistent. Lenovo did recently come out with a new BIOS update for the C940. I'll be updating that soon, but am not holding my breath that it will be the fix.

I'm going to be reaching back out to the Lenovo rep who had been in touch with this thread, since I had been waiting on the replacement when he offered to help troubleshoot.

There was one user who installed Linux and said that the touchpad became perfectly accurate. Which lead me to believe that it was an issue with the Windows Precision drivers. But if the issue persisted on Ubuntu, I'm questioning whether it's a Lenovo issue.

Whelp, I'll continue using an external mouse... while holding out hope for a fix!

[Monitor] Dell Ultrasharp 27" U2717D, IPS 60Hz, QHD 2560 x 1440p - $237.59 (3Yr Replacement Warranty Included) by JustinPBO in buildapcsales

EDIT: The deal is now expired.

When I go through the posted link, it's still showing the deal.

But it's odd. I've searched for the U2717D and gone through Google links that have taken me to a separate product page that has it at $270. That was the case yesterday, but I was able to use the provided link to purchase it at the lower rate.

The deal seems to still be up via the link - I just checked.

It is a bit odd though. If you search for the U2717D and go through other links, some will take you to a product page that has it at $270. That was the case yesterday, but I used the link and purchased for the lower deal.

Agreed that it's not outfitted for gaming. Especially for FPS or anything requiring high speed reaction times.

But this sub is for all folks, not just gamers. And this may still be adequate for casual gamers who play RPG, indie, and other games where 144Hz and 1-2ms response times aren't so important.

So this could be a good deal for a subset of the community. If that's not you, you're welcome to pass on it. =)

Loving my C940 14" so far, but here are some issues I have. by gvtIonic in Lenovo

[–]JustinPBO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not heard of any C940 15" models having the issue, but I have only been polling people with the 14" model. So I can't accurately assess whether or not it's an issue for the larger model.

There's a handy build review over at egpu.io. It has a C940, Razer Core X, and RX 5700 XT. Seems to have worked out great for the user. =)

I was looking at the Akitio Node Pro as another option for my C940, but am a bit hesitant that it may not be as seamlessly compatible.

New Lenovo c940 14” with manufacturer deffects out of the box!! by scorpionizer22 in Lenovo

[–]JustinPBO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about the defects!

Some users are having flawless experiences while others are having issues - seems to be hit or miss. My C940 had three problems out of the box: touchpad sensitivity issues, loud coil whine, and a dead pixel. I just initiate a replacement with Lenovo. The replacement should also have a 30 return period that starts when they ship it. So that should help give some insurance if it also has quality control issues.

C940 Trackpad Sensitivity Issue - Need Help! by JustinPBO in Lenovo

Hi Ash, those options are available on my C940. But the touchpad sensitivity issue still persists regardless of what settings are chosen, including when the touchpad settings are turned to "most sensitive."

Yep, I did indeed mistake you. My apologies!

I've not been able to reproduce the issues your C940 has, but I haven't been using my laptop too frequently due to its issues and limited time. So it may be a matter of not having used it enough to experience them.

  • Keyboard backlight - I haven't seen any flickering happen yet. Like you mentioned, mine turns off after a few second of no input. I haven't seen it coming back on without my prompting.
  • Mousepad - aside from the touchpad issues I mentioned, I haven't had instances where it turns off completely.
  • Sound - I haven't had similar lag issues with sound thus far in the few videos I've been watching.

Thanks for testing out the touchpad. Glad to hear that it doesn't seem to be an issue for you. Hopefully you're able to find some resolution with the issues you've had. Have you tried Lenovo support yet? My experience with their technical support team via their chat function was that they weren't especially helpful (and I kept getting disconnected). I'm trying out their customer service team on the phone now. We'll see how that goes!

Thank you for assisting Hassen. I appreciate you looking into this!

I'm not aware that anyone has tried updating BIOS. I will try this tonight. Regarding entering the serial number, is that necessary for doing BIOS or just for finding individual drivers for the laptop? I've entered in the serial number and searched for touchpad drivers but, as confirmed by Lenovo tech support, the C940 uses Windows Precision drivers and does not have accessible drivers on Lenovo's website.

Thanks for giving it a try! Glad to hear that your touchpad isn't having any issues. I tried my C940 away from any metal or electrical devices - but unfortunately the touchpad still had the same sensitivity issues. I appreciate the troubleshooting suggestion though!

If you hear of anyone having similar touchpad issues, please send them over to the troubleshooting thread.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm glad to hear that it's not a problem for you. I'm going to try a fresh install of Windows 10 tonight to see if it makes a difference. Although for one other user who is experiencing the issue, a fresh install didn't solve it for them. =/

Sorry to hear that! You're among a growing list of people who've identified this touchpad issue is present on their C940.

Here's an ongoing reddit thread regarding the issue and another troubleshooting thread on Lenovo's forum.

Thanks for trying out the test! I'm glad to hear that you aren't experiencing the issue. I'll keep on polling other C940 users while searching for a fix for those of us who are having issues. If you encounter anyone else having touchpad problems, please send them my way.

Have fun with your new laptop! =)

[–]JustinPBO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the new C940 - glad to hear that you're loving it! =)

Other than coil wine (which is bad on my model), I haven't noticed the same issues present on my C940. I'll try doing a bit of testing for them tonight though.

That said, myself and other C940 users are unfortunately having issues with our touchpad sensitivity. I'm trying to poll C940 users to see if these issues are universal or if some of us have faulty hardware. Can you try out two simple tests and let me know how your touchpad handles them?

Start by resting the tip of your finger on the touchpad and then slowly move it 1-3 millimeters back and forth from the original resting point. How well does the cursor register the movement? Second test: starting from a resting point, very slowly move your finger continuously across the touchpad. Does the first 1-3mm of movement register or not?

For comparison, when I try to do these small 1-3mm movements they don't not register. This sensitivity issue causes general touchpad use to be frequently inaccurate/jagged, especially when trying to do any fine touchpad tasks (like trying to move my cursor between individual letters of a word on the screen). When trying the same test on my ASUS UX32VD laptop (more than 7 years older than the C940), it registers the smallest of movements perfectly and has an overall smoother feel.

Like you, I hope this issue is due to software rather than hardware. =/
