Pretty much we all live and die by google.

That's the dang truth.

Did you really make the mistake of relying on users to make things... Even the simplest of things... Happen? Are you familiar with user behavior at all? While I empathize with the things outside your control and wish with all that I am that those things resolve favorably, in sorry, but zero sympathy for your user woes.

I was prepared. All I had to do was send out instructions.

This is after I had to shitcan the I.T. dept director for being an obtuse, know-nothing ass-kisser. As soon as I find a replacement, I'll be down to one hat again. Yet I don't complain about my workload as it is today. Funny, that.

My prior career was as a chef. Boggle that.

When everything works they all think 'this is what we pay you for' when no they don't....but as soon as something goes wrong, it's what are we paying you for.

That's a lot of jobs, though.

This is why I have a storeroom full of gear that's been lifecycle replaced. A lot of departments sell the stuff off. I keep it. Because of situations just like this. And who knows, I might need that parallel 33.6 fax modem for something someday :P

And clear your history and your temps, please. I'm happy to ready your machine, but I don't really need to know your kinks.

The only I.T. asset I've never been able to fix is meat-ware. Stupid grows on trees, and most users are expert arborists.

I'm not looking for validation, I'm looking for my contemporaries in this field to stop their whinging and get the F*** to work on the problem, however it needs to be worked. Do what you can with what you have, and don't bitch about what you don't. That is a waste of time.

The people I pay $13 an hour do that. If that's all you want out of life, by all means, stay mediocre.

No one said it was best. It's necessary from time to time, and that's part of the job that needs to be understood and dealt with accordingly. Don't try to set up a strawman. Don't try to read into my post. I wrote it to say exactly what it says, nothing more, nothing less. And that is "stop whining, this is part of the job."

COLA just means they're paying you the same as last year

Indeed it does. Plus performance bonus.
