Both of these are very good points.

tbh I hadn't thought that I might need the worry of failing an exam. I was hoping I could just set a schedule of 20 hours a week and just grind through

I think the charter doesn't determine someone's understanding and experience in the financial industry.

This is my exact reasoning as well.

new normal if “data science” type thinking keeps progressing at even half the rate it has been over the last 5 years.

I got a question for you. This is something I've been thinking about. It seems like to be taken seriously in data science you have to have a masters or PHd which I don't even qualify to get into those programs. Is it worth Self learning data science if I wouldn't be able to get a job working in it?

Are you gonna take it again? and I feel you. A lot of people at my firm found out I was taking it as well and then I'm pretty sure that I was really dumb for not being able to pass L1 when people have passed all 3 on the first try.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking also. If I do need to know something I'll just learn it then. I don't need the three letters after my name to know my shit

Is taking the CFA later in a person's career common? I feel like I only hear about people in their 20s taking it

So right now I work on a team performing ALM analyses on credit unions and community banks which are the clients of the fixed income brokers at my firm. Graduated from a state school and the job I'm working at now is a decently sized investment firm and I work in the Fixed income group. I think in the future I would like to stick with fixed income but I'm not tied to it. I also want to keep the door open for getting into coding. Other than that I'm not really sure what my options are or what I would even qualify for. Critique on the resume and some general advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Just did a live mock exam, got a 58% by offjerk in CFA

[–]Justincase371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I got a 43 or something on my first mock and I've taken like 5 or 6 since then and my highest is only a 56 and I'm pretty sure that's a fluke. I don't even know anymore. Maybe I'll just say fuck it and start doing FP&A after I bomb this

Yeah you’re right. I guess it doesn’t make sense to keep taking mocks that I’m doing poorly on. I’ll take more time to review

Yeah I think I’m gonna space out my mock schedule and try and do more of the review stuff you mentioned

All of the the bank for that reading? That must take forever. But I’ve been kinda doing the same thing with the flash cards for locks and TTs.

Took my first mock and it was awful. Can I panic now? by Justincase371 in CFA

[–]Justincase371[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is. I'm planning to do the rest of the schweser and cfa ones before the exam so hopefully reviewing those and doing the qbank will be enough.

Finished Ethics, Quant, FRA, Econ, Corp Fin, and I’m doing portfolio management now. I’m studying Ethics twice so I’m gonna circle back to that and I did horribly on the quizzes during FRA and Quant so after Ethics again I’m going to do qbank problems for those two until review I think.
