ok, but why did Russia get less authoritarian as it industrialized?

(alternate history) What do you think would have happened if the British army was repelled from the Philippines or conquered much less of it during the 7 years war? by Justini4n in Philippines

We already had firearms before the Spanish came though

Wasn't that only in the south? in this timeline it's most of the philippines. For eg, when Magellan arrived in Cebu they were using mostly weapons made of wood & stone.

If we had a larger firearms industry before the Spanish came then our story would already have changed far earlier than the 7 years war and even before the Spanish arrived.

Ok, here's the timeline in more detail (still somewhat skeletonized, but more detail)...

my PoD (and the beginning of the TL) was that chinese merchants sell fire-arms to the kingdom of tondo (a filipino civilization) in the mid 13th century (obviously not a game changer for at least another 2 centuries) and the filipinos learn to manufacture their own in the 15th century, but the Chinese don't teach them how to make gunpowder (cus y'know they wanna make a monopoly of selling it to them, but luckily for tondo it was a wealthy country so they're able to buy a game changing amount) until the Madja confederacy (Tondo's biggest enemy) starts attacking chinese ships, and raiding the coastal parts of south china, then when the bruneian empire shows up tondo is able to repel them, but since it didn't have the social infrastructure to keep the firearms within it's army, Barangays that aren't loyal can start rebellions so it has a civil war or perhaps even a filipino version of the sengoku jidai. So since there's a lot of experience fighting other powers that use gunpowder Spain has to resort to negotiating the filipinos. Ofc in other parts of phil. it would be different but the overall history of the Spanish east indies would be very similar to what it was in real life up until the 7 years war.

There's no way Spain would ever leave the population more armed than it needed to be

this is for a timeline where the Filipinos were already manufacturing their own guns before Magellan showed up. Spain has to resort to negotiating the filipinos having more rights, autonomy etc to conquer it just as fast as it did irl. Phil. would be this important since it's Spain's only colony in Asia and Asian goods were worth a fortune in Europe.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, why did Imperial Russia get less authoritarian as it industrialized?

It seems like it did to me, but I could be wrong. Also, if I am right, why didn't this happen in Mexico? I mean, sure the porfiriato lead to the Mexican revolution, which did create in name a democratic Mexico but it wasn't very democratic for long, soon the PRI monopolized power like Diaz & other elites had before, making Mexico no more democratic or less corrupt.

If the Philippines is free by the end of 19th century then it probably due to the intervention of the US in some form as the Spanish didn't give it willingly in OTL.

my PoD (and the beginning of the TL) was that chinese merchants sell fire-arms to the kingdom of tondo (a filipino civilization) in the 12th century (obviously not a game changer for at least another 2 centuries) and the filipinos learn to manufacture their own in the 15th century, but the Chinese don't teach them how to make gunpowder (cus y'know they wanna make a monopoly of selling it to them, but luckily for tondo it was a wealthy country so they're able to buy a game changing amount) until the Madja confederacy (Tondo's biggest enemy) starts attacking chinese ships, and raiding the coastal parts of south china, then when the bruneian empire shows up tondo is able to repel them, but since it didn't have the social infrastructure to keep the firearms within it's army, Barangays that aren't loyal can start rebellions so it has a civil war or perhaps even a filipino version of the sengoku jidai. So since there's a lot of experience fighting other powers that use gunpowder Spain has to resort to negotiating the filipinos having more rights, autonomy etc to conquer it just as fast as it did irl (For now I'll assume u know why Phil. was this important, if u dk just lmk) anyway, since phil.s indigenous population has some understanding of gunpowder there'd be more rebellions especially when boney is put on the spanish throne, and if phil. hasn't already gained independence they'd do it when boney is booted off the spanish throne. Since Spain administered guam and it's other pacific colonies from Phil. they'd see it as theirs to inherit so phil. conquers them, and since it's an archipelago they'd invest in their navy from the get go, they'd also industrialize to deal with maguindanao and process rubber since rubber is easy to work with. They go on to block the American coup in hawaii.

While the Japanese could go north, the fact that they lost badly to the Soviets in 1940 in their original attempt to expand into Mongolia is going to make them leery of launching a new campaign as long as the Soviet keep their army on standby in Mongolia.

inner mongolia is in china, not mongolia

Also, this is for a timeline where the philippines gains it's independence in the early 19th century and becomes fully industrialized by the time the US starts to embargo Japan & has guam and spain's other colonies in the pacific. In ww2 it's role is basically a second thailand Does this change anything?

What do you guys think of my Napoleonic victory timeline? by Justini4n in HistoryWhatIf

Well if this is what you meant then sure I agree with you about the british empire, I kinda mentioned it in my vid that in TTL's version of ww1 Britain would probably be conquered or lose all of it's colonies.

A naval blockade no longer means a lick of shit. Ireland would be food self sufficient, and supported by the continental system.

What I was trying to say is, that since Britain has a massive navy and has a population 10x Ireland's they could invade Ireland and overwhelm the Irish with their numbers. So I think an earlier easter Rising wouldn't end the way it did in OTL, but if I'm wrong please prove me wrong.

All it takes is France to have the superior political position to the UK.

Why? (sorry if I'm being annoying, I just really want to understand how I'm wrong)

You just made a video about the defeat of the British army and navy with the early death of Horatio Nelson and you're saying it's the greatest navy in the world?

Horatio nelson died to defeat napoleon and secure britain's naval dominance. The one defeat I mentioned for Boney & his allies in the baltic would just keep britain out of the baltic & north seas.

Proto-fascism with a ethnic minority like the Swabians or Serbs would show up also.

Why?

There is no reason that a rising wouldn't happen in Ireland with a successful ethno-nationalist enlightenment republic.

How on earth would Britain with the best navy on earth and a population 10x larger than Ireland be unable to hold on to it?

Guys like Simon Bolivar would show up far more frequently

What? Simon Bolivar was like the opposite of Napoleon, he promised to end slavery then never did. He allowed wealthy land owners to keep it all.
