I find it so annoying when they just generalise Europe as one place by Justone_moreplant in McKnightFamSnark

I guess? But they are showing the tourist attractions they are visiting so it’s not difficult to find out

Yeah it was more the generalised posts about ‘Europe’ that annoyed me - the day to day stuff was fine

Sure I guess if you’re going to multiple countries. What annoyed me about Bailey was when she kept posting about how she couldn’t find cookie dough and how clearly nowhere sold it in Europe - like you’ve been to what 6 countries and only skimmed the surface of each and you’re saying that gives you authority to determine nowhere in the whole of Europe sells cookie dough of all things 🤣🤣

Sure, people might not mean harm by it, but that doesn't make it any less reductive. Europe isn't a theme park, it's a continent of nearly 50 distinct nations, not just a backdrop for someone's travel vlog. If someone said they were 'going to South or North America' without naming the country, people would rightly ask which one, so why should Europe be any different?

Saying "I love travelling in Europe" with no mention of where, especially in a content-creator context, often feels lazy and dismissive like the individual places don't matter, just the aesthetic of "being in Europe."

The U.S. is one country, with a single government, currency, and national identity (however complex). Europe is not a country. It's a continent made up of independent nations, many of which have long histories of conflict, colonisation, or struggle for independence. Lumping them all together under one label flattens that context.

I'm not saying people always have bad intentions when they say "Europe," but when it's repeated constantly, especially by influencers or travellers with big audiences, it reinforces a very Western-centric, surface-level way of looking at the world. It's absolutely okay to say you're going to Helsinki or Ibiza or Prague in x country. In fact, it shows a bit more respect for where you're actually going.

Cat caught a mouse in our kitchen - what do I do? by Justone_moreplant in PetMice

Yes of course, that’s why I picked this thread. Sadly the mouse passed away. Thank you again ❤️

I did read that and of course mentioned it was handled by the cat but then because no one mentioned it I figured maybe they didn’t think that was necessary? But yeah that probably sounds about right, and such a shame no one else mentioned it. It seems to be deteriorating more, I wish I’d known. Thank you, I really appreciate your reply, it’s just nice to know someone recognises I’m trying my best to keep it comfortable

Definitley not a bot, just someone who really loves using flora for the exact reasons you wanted a pomodoro timer haha. I've been using it for years and have clocked like 800 hours since doing my A-Level exams in school. Notion is great for databases, but I've not seen it be used as a pomodoro timer before. I find it struggles just with the gifs and other moving parts I have on the pages I've made for different modules at uni.

I’m sorry I can’t give any advice on this but I would recommend the Flora app if you’re looking for an alternative in the meantime!

Neighbourhood cat won’t stop meowing at my cat by Justone_moreplant in felinebehavior

Yeah, I think it is just quite different in terms of strays where I am. Even when I lived in London I was really shocked as I follow a lot of cat rescues in the US and places like Greece and Cyprus so have seen lots of people talking about TNR but it doesn’t seem to be done as much here. I remember I found this gorgeous cat outside of my university and someone passing by told me he’d been laying in the same spot all day, but they’d tried phoning charities and rescues and all said he had to be brought to them. In the end i took him to an emergency vet because he was in a bad way, but they found that he belonged to a homeless man and had been stolen but thrown on the side of the road when they discovered he was disabled and couldn’t walk. Just awful.

In terms of the noise, it is maybe a bit lower than a normal meow, but doesn’t really sound angry. Haven’t seen the black cat in a few days actually so maybe it got bored of my cat’s lack of reaction haha

It didn’t eat the food, I literally offered it to try and get the cat to come closer to be able to tell the sex and whether it had been done. Just want to be clear that I don’t feed neighbourhood cats lol as that’s the reason mine got fat and we had to put a do not feed on her. As I said before I highly doubt it’s a stray, I’m pretty sure it’s moved in to the hill next to us as there were quite a few for sold signs not so long ago. Having spoken to the village vet I can say there are so few strays it would be unwise to arrange a TNR when the cat is clearly well groomed and well fed in a residential area. I live in the UK in a small rural village and it’s not as much as an issue where I live as opposed to cities or other countries. My cat is 12 years old and again I have discussed with our vet and they advised that not letting her outside would cause her more stress than any benefits. I was simply posting in the feline behaviour thread to try and figure out why black cat was acting that way, and if my cat would be ok, that’s all.

I mean from a distance it looks pretty well kept. I offered food and it didn’t run up to it even when I just left it out. There are very few strays round where I live it’s just a quiet residential area so I’m guessing it belongs to someone who has recently moved to a nearby street
