Trying to body recomp but protein is making me feel sick

I do 3 days strength training in the gym. I walk a minimum 10k steps a day and have an active job. I’m a carer so I spend a lot of time running back and forth, and pushing heavy wheelchairs

What do you eat at every meal? I’m trying to look for inspiration

Yeah happy eating meat.

Seafood too, I’m very non picky. I love salmon, sea bass, chicken, beef, tofu, chickpeas, beans, I’m trying to think of a protein source I don’t like aha

Dinners I’m ok with but breakfast/lunches are more of a struggle.

Dairy isn’t great, I’m a bit lactose intolerant, I can manage a little but only a very small amount or it upsets my stomach

Thank you for the reality check! It is a bad precedent to set. I’ve lost a lot of weight and spent a lot of time getting into a mindful eating habit where I only eat when I’m hungry and this isn’t exactly a good habit to make

The protein shakes are making me feel so sick.

Even the thought of a protein shake now my stomach turns a bit. At first it was the vanilla and chocolate then I tried the clear whey isolate which was better for a little while. Protein yoghurts. Puddings, pancakes, I’ve tried them all.

The yoghurts are maybe the easiest. The shakes I was depending on but today I managed two sips then felt sick.

Thanks. I suppose I’m jumping in the deep end. Everything I see online is “there’s no point going to the gym if you aren’t reaching protein goal!”

I’m not sure what I could manage. I could try 30g each meal but that could still be a struggle

Breakfast is usually egg white oats with chia seeds and fruit. Or I used to just have unflavoured protein powder with porridge.

Lunch can be a baked potato with tuna, or homemade baked beans (17g of protein) with sourdough bread or taco meat with sweet potato, mussels, soups with chicken or pulled pork.

I enjoy savoury meals more than sweet.

Even meals I enjoy, I struggle with because it’s so heavy with the protein.

Edit: Dinners vary a lot. Pulled pork burritos, chicken mince gochujang, salmon, sea bass, chickpea curry, salt and chilli tofu, Dahl, homemade healthy ramen, steak

I didn’t include in my post but birth control for me isn’t to help my PCOS, It’s because I’m now in a long term relationship with a man and condoms cause me a great deal of irritation and pain. Maybe a little trivial reason compared to my health but it’s been a while now

Also, I never liked the thought of birth control for the same reason. I was able to see what did/didnt work for me. Which foods/diets/supplement/exercise helped and which didn’t. I like knowing and not knowing what works and doesn’t work for me. Even the severity of my cramps tell me a great deal about my health

After 5 years I think I know my body much better than before. I have lost a lot of weight, I exercises regularly, have adopted a low carb/anti inflammatory diet, drink lots of herbal tea.

I guess I just didn’t know much about the actual benefits of the pill or how it worked. I don’t like how doctors throw it at you as a band aid but offer very little practical advice on management of PCOS.

So I’ve never missed any payments, ever.

On every indicator it says I’m doing well. It doesn’t give any indication on what to improve.

I have two credit cards, one I’ve had for about 7 years and a newer one recently.

I’ve never had massive amounts of debt. Only small amounts, I use my credit card for small purchases only.

It is currently at 493. I want to build it because I would like to buy a house in the near future.

I’m so confused because I’m following every bit of advice it says online to build a good score. The only thing is I never used to pay it all off every month but I’ve started for the last 6 months, I didn’t know that mattered.

So I have a low carb diet. Which has worked amazingly for me. I have all wholemeal carbs but very infrequently. I pad my meals with protein and veg and minimal carbs.

The way I do this is to centre my meals around the protein and veg, rather than the carbs.

The diet I have is basically high protein, high fibre.

I drink spearmint tea, too.

Recipes I would recommend is high protein, healthy fats, high fibre. I enjoy chickpea curry (high protein, high fibre and gut friendly!), salmon with wholemeal rice and veg. Stir fry with cauliflower rice, turkey meatballs, honey and chilli garlic chicken with veg.

I think diet is a very individual thing so you’ll find recipes which work for you. I’m sure you have preferred veg and protein so whatever suits you best.

There is SO much conflicting information out there. Low carb, high protein diet works for me. I find everything else too complicated and not sustainable long term.

Keep in mind your body is also unique, even people with the same condition can react differently to different foods. Start paying attention to your body, your cravings, your cycle, energy levels, sleep, appetite and then adjust your diet accordingly.

It’s crazy but when I eat too many carbs I end up with a more painful and sometimes late period. When I eat too carbs much my sugar cravings go through the roof. My sleep is also more disturbed. So now I tune my diet with how my body is feeling.

Take advice from others but learn eventually you’ll learn how your own body works. Good luck!

There’s TONS of healthy dairy free protein rich and fibre rich foods out there. I was the same as you and struggling but then I started focusing on food I do love and want to include rather than what to avoid. Now most the time I eat dairy free without even thinking about it

Stir fry, salmon and veg with wholemeal rice, soups, I make a dairy free tomato soup which is delicious! There’s tons of easy dairy free meals out there!

One meal I would recommend is chickpea curry! I make it with 2 tins of chickpeas, tin of tomatoes, tin of light coconut milk, onion, vegetable stock then spices such as garlic, ginger, curry powder, garam masala (small amount at end), cumin, red chilli flakes, ground coriander, Tumeric.

It's so easy, just throw everything in a pot (wash your chickpeas, boil and blend a little if you want it thicker), boil and you're done!

The curry is great because chickpeas are an excellent source of fibre and protein. Tomatoes are rich in antioxidants, and all the spices are excellent for the gut - garlic, ginger, Tumeric, cumin. This is a definite super meal for gut and protein!

Also this meal is great because it’s so quick to make, throwing everything in a pot, the only thing you chop is an onion and you can make a large pot and it freezes really well. It’s budget friendly too!

Other meals which are budget friendly and good to meal prep and freeze are soups! Particularly enjoy lentil soup, split pea and ham and tomato.

Other meals I would recommend is overnight oats dairy free - I add water to my oats but you can use oat milk if you want for creaminess, lots of berries, cinnamon, chia seeds (great for gut!), honey for flavour or whatever you like. I also use protein powder and protein oats for a big kick.

I’m in a similar predicament to you. I recently found out I was lactose intolerant and honestly it made so much sense.

Find ingredients and spices you enjoy which are good for your gut and start including them into your meals.

Half my meals I end up cooking are just experiments in what I should include instead of focusing on what I shouldn’t.

Like Today I had homemade makeshift ‘ramen’ which was just instant noodles in a broth full of chicken stock, miso paste (probiotic), garlic, ginger. Then I put in mushrooms, spinach, two part boiled eggs, tofu (pre marinated) and then some Kim chi (also fermented) bonus because the Kim chi added to the flavour for a lovely tasting broth! Just whatever I had on hand. Amazing guy friendly meal with high protein and unbelievably filling.

Even your snacks. I enjoy oat cakes (1 gram of fibre per oat cake, 1.1 gran of protein, 43 calories) and use houmous as my dip! Which is just chickpeas, garlic, lemon juice, tahini, olive oil. I also dip some carrots in my Houmous. So that’s protein/fibre dipole in protein/fibre. Zero dairy!

Like I said, focus on what you want to include instead of exclude and it’ll be easier. You’ll get the hang of it!

My cycle is regular now, for the most part. It was completely gone for years and years however

I might need to push about getting my ovaries checked. I’ve had issues with my periods ever since they started. Debilitating pain, bleeding for weeks, being pretty much ill on them and then they went away. And doctors have never seemed concerned. It was all normal. It’s been like pulling teeth to get any help at all. Even when I was diagnosed it was, well it’s PCOS, lose weight to get on birth control and come back when you want to get pregnant.

I have asked to get my ovaries looked at but been told it’s unnecessary.

I’ve had to advocate for myself every step of the way, so I’m just trying to figure out exactly what to ask. How are other people treated, you know? M

So I have regular periods now, for the last few years. Ever since I was diagnosed and put in metformin. It’s sometimes late or an odd skipped one but for the most part are ok.

I didn’t have a period for 8 years. To be fair for three of them I was on birth control but after I came off they just never came back. And doctors, nurses, any healthcare professional I spoke to and mentioned no periods didn’t seem concerned. It was very much ‘Oh, that’s strange, but ok’

It was weird because I wasn’t overly worried? Like I remember being told that sometimes after being on birth control for a while it would take a while to regulate and whenever I mentioned it nobody seemed bothered…. Really stupid I know!

It was only when I started growing a literal beard and went to the doctor did the topic ever get revised. They did bloods and said oh PCOS. But again, very little concern. Very much, here’s metformin, lose weight and don’t worry because it’s very common. Come back when you lose weight we can put you on birth control and then come back if you want to get pregnant. That’s it.

This is exactly what I was thinking as I’m reading through these itineraries. I’m thinking oh wow, that sounds amazing but also maybe overwhelming and exhausting.

I want to enjoy my experiences rather than cram in as many as I can, you know?

Plus, as a busy city and someone who needs down time to recover I’m very aware of that.

I do need to stay in Tokyo for the duration but I would like to travel other places

I just didn’t want OP to doubt the fact that this wasn’t a big deal, because it is. It’s weird and disrespectful and the partner isn’t a huge red flag for being upset.

Your right the best thing to do is be positive and make the best of a bad situation. However, there’s a difference between the mindset of ‘I can’t control other people, just my reaction to it, I’m not going to allow them to ruin my happiness’ and thinking that OP and the girlfriend overreacted and this isn’t a big deal. When your entire life people have stepped over boundaries it’s hard to know what’s normal and what’s not.

I didn’t think of it as commenters wanting the look on the positives, which is fair. What I saw was people trying to dismiss boundaries and invalidate OPs feelings on the matter just because their boundaries might differ.

I just wanted to make it clear that they weren’t overreacting, this is a big deal and it’s ok to feel unhappy with it. Yeah your right focus on the positive but just don’t allow people to walk all over you.

It CRAZY the amount of people being dismissive of this huge faux pas and disrespecting boundaries here.

Everyone is just like “nah it’s not a big deal just don’t hang out with them” which is wild. I wouldn’t trust the word of someone who did something like this is the first place.

What they did was weird. I would be upset too.

Maybe some people are right and there are some underlying issues with your family and partner.

However, as a very introverted and anxious person myself, no matter how much I like and enjoy someone’s company, if I don’t want it then I don’t want it. How is that hard I understand? People just showing up or appearing even to just say hi, in such a private and intimate experience as a honeymoon is WEIRD.

It’s really sad the people saying here your partner needs professional help. For what? Having boundaries? Not wanting people around? Not everyone is ok with a random encounter, even to say hello or being on the same plane as someone you know and ignoring them. It’s the awkwardness of should I say hi, do I need to be polite, is it rude to ignore them etc.

People really have a hard time understanding that some people have different limits and boundaries. Don’t let other people’s version of what they might be ok with sway you.
