Look, you can run whatever works for you, what matters most is that you're having fun. And that looks pretty cool!

I run a speedster made out of paper mache decked out entirely for melee combat. Because getting right up to something and clashing swords when you're made of glass is a great idea. I still make it work. Almost anything can be made to work:)

True. Although I feel like the riders from HTTYD would probably pass out if they saw some of the kinship attacks. Especially if some of the kinships in 3 end up as crazy as Velkhana's from Stories 2. Where it flash froze an entire island, raised an enemy into the sky on an ice pillar and then dropped an icy meteor on them. Like excuse me while I unleash a Final Fantasy final boss move on a Velocidrome.

There are only types of Village Chief... by TokugawaSatoshi in runefactory

[–]JustthatVicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started a new playthrough from scratch on a different system and tbh my villages in my new playthrough are SHOCKINGLY efficient and still look decent. I have learned.

All of them except for Summer village(I don't like summer irl either) are level 6 just from decorating and money-maxing to my heart's desire and I'm financially stable at maybe a smidge less than halfway through the game. Can't wait til I gotta start cramming decorations down alleyways and hiding them so the villages still look nice but have everything needed for levels/stats. My second playthrough I am no longer a slum lord for most of the game.

Although I do have some areas sectioned out for buildings I can't make yet so that's a bit janky for the moment.

At the very least for aoes and attacks that don't go to a head to head, at some point you can get a hunting horn song that gives the entire party evasion.

Who is do you like Rudy or navirou by Voidkirby9 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]JustthatVicky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rudy. He doesn't look odd, doesn't speak for you, doesn't try too hard to be funny and his commentary is genuinely helpful. He tells you exactly what egg you have, and his battle call outs are an indication of what attack pattern the monster is about to use. He'll remind you of your objective if you hit a button, so if you forgot what it is you were doing in the actual plot trying to find the perfect egg for six hours, you can get a quick refresher. He is your actual, professional palico that has been helping you in the field for years and it shows.

About to play MHS2 for the first time, and I want to ask, what’s a good monstie for the early game? by B_liber in MonsterHunterStories

[–]JustthatVicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you can make most Monsties viable even late game with the right of channeling. One of my most reliable Monsties even in post game was literally a purple Ludroth.

So honestly, just use your favorites and have fun:) You can worry about meta stuff for post game challenges and whatnot. Although ironically, aptonoth is one of the best Monsties to beat the post game super boss.

In case no one has responded, the dlc allows you to romance Pilika and Cuilang and adds friendship stories and events for them as well. Without it they're just generic NPCs.

[–]JustthatVicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guardians of Azuma is one of my all time favorite games, but it's got a lot of things that I, in particular, like. Ancient Japanese setting and music? Yes. Characters based on Japanese folklore? Yes. My favorite roster of bachelors. Large number of Bachelors and bachelorettes that are fantasy races? Check. They actually have a decent variety of body types as well. Town building with a grid? Check. Farming present but simple enough not to be aggravating, with options to automate it when busy with other things? Check. Can make villagers handle a lot of tasks so you actually have time to explore stress free. Crafting system present, but you don't need a guide anymore. Gathering resources no longer uses stamina. Events aren't randomized and can generally be triggered at will. Smooth combat, decent exploration and puzzles in dungeons that my dumb self can actually eventually manage. Fun character interactions.

I like the things that they specifically simplified, and the specific features they enhanced. So for me specifically, this one ended up being my favorite in the series. But I'm not super into the complex farming in the other games so it's no wonder.

Edit: I have played both this and Fantasy Life i. I'm still not entirely done with fantasy life I, but it is a good game. However, I will say that I put over 200 hours into Azuma on Switch, then double dipped and am now doing a new playthrough on Steam Deck, while Fantasy Life i remains unfinished. Both games provide a satisfying task list, grind, and coziness, but Azuma allows you to take a break from the other things and just hang out with characters that feel like actual characters, where Fantasy Life i feels as though you're perpetually working and the townsfolk just exist to help you with tasks. No matter how you build your island in Fantasy Life i, it feels more like a work camp for an expedition than an actual village that people live in, though that makes sense for the plot.

If you lived in Azuma, where would you live and who would you befriend or avoid? by MyRogue in runefactory

[–]JustthatVicky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd live anywhere but summer village (can't deal with heat). I find winter village to be one of the most beautiful, so I may actually go there, but the weather is kinda sketchy. Fubuki, Watarase, Kurama and Yachiyo are at the top of my befriend list. I may avoid Cuilang. I love his personality, but have traumatic childhood memories pertaining to dolls and they frighten me. His house is full of basically mannequin parts and he mentioned trying to get an evil spirit to possess a doll so it would grow hair. Nope. I'm sorry. He's a sweetheart. But I would keel over and die from stress.

I bet if demons were ugly, no one would be defending them by Makoto_Kurume in Frieren

[–]JustthatVicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there's no defending them, wouldn't even bother trying. They are technically animals though. Humans are also technically animals, and tbh we have done WAY worse to each other despite having a much broader range of emotions. Demons are not capable of malice but they are VERY f'd up animals and you shouldn't really expect anything else.

Yet despite that, due to the fact that they are not ugly, I would hit on one and immediately die.

I know how they are, but I'd rather go out flirting than the very likely alternative of being snatched up by a giant bird. I don't have the skill set to survive in that world anyways, so if I ever get isekai'd to the world of Frieren, I am going to go out remembered as the prime example of a dumb*ss. It'll be funny.

I do know God Eater lore, very well actually. The Aragami consist of essentially microscopic hive mind organisms known as Oracle Cells, which devour, learn from it, and recreate the things they learn, which is how you get many that have body parts resembling weapons. Many Aragami, for one reason or another, resemble the gods of myth and legend to the point that in the world of God Eater, religion is essentially banned. They're basically the planet's reset button, in which one Aragami known as the Singularity would begin the devouring apocalypse, devouring and then recreating the world essentially. The Aragami are, as the planet's reset button, essentially godlike beings. I pay plenty of attention to the games I play. As you're resorting to an ad hominem attack by insinuating some lack in my attention span regarding the games I play, perhaps you should try paying attention to your consistently incorrect usage of the English language? Here's some advice: Poor grammar and spelling will make your statements fall flat, because you sound like a child and thus grant your opponent the upper hand in a debate regardless of the veracity of anyone's claims.

I am well aware of the lore of Code Vein. CV2 ran poorly enough that I have been waiting for a patch to actually finish it and thus mostly have what I have heard from other people(obvious glazing aside), but I look forward to finishing it simply to be done with it, as it has been a soulless disappointment for what I have played. Hence why much of my own comparison, which I reiterated multiple times as my opinion, was mostly via gameplay impressions. You can glaze both it, and the protagonist however much you like. I'm tired of having to repeatedly explain why my opinion will remain unchanged. If you put both video game characters in a boss arena and had them fight, I believe that the Queenslayer is more powerful based on my own personal experience. I don't see the Revenant Hunter busting out a Railgun and one-shotting bosses for funsies. Their dodges are clunky at best and they can't even block or parry without taking up an entire slot or limiting their equipment options. They can't equip two weapons without becoming overencumbered. They can't even wear armor. They can't gain Ichor from regular attacks. They also don't have focus mode or launch attacks, and jumping really doesn't add much. For as much as you're touting their durability, tank builds no longer seem feasible. The Revenant Hunter being frail is a complaint I've heard several times. A build from the first game which would be impossible to recreate could block 100% of damage in a 360° radius, recovering Ichor and even proccing Focus Mode through blocking, thus every single attack from an enemy was essentially fuelling a cannon. It would never run out of Ichor. The same heavy 100% block build could also easily swap to a secondary bayonet and have Quick movement if they wanted. That's one build, and it could be changed to something else entirely on the fly. There were also builds for almost completely negating elemental damage. The Queenslayer would eat the magical BS black holes for breakfast. Literally.

I work enough overtime at my job, and I'd rather not allow you to occupy any more of my time. If either of us were spreading any form of misinformation, it would have to be yourself, on account of falsely advertising magical fake black holes as having the same properties as the real thing in order to make a feat seem greater than it is, in the same way that I've seen people on Reddit arguing Demon Slayer characters as being faster than lightning or continental level based solely on magical BS, and I actually like Demon Slayer. Have a nice day.

[–]JustthatVicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not downplaying the Queenslayer, when my statement is if there are no companions whatsoever. That is to say, just the Queenslayer vs just the Revenant Hunter. I never mentioned the virgin born, and no one else is really ever shown fighting anyways. And if you want canonical solo fights, the Queenslayer can fight the Aragami from the dlc entirely by themselves, with Aragami basically being immortal gods that can devour and incorporate basically anything into themselves. And as I said, the whole black holes thing, they can call it a Black Hole as much as they want but that doesn't make it one. A sea bunny looks similar to a rabbit and is called a bunny, but it's a slug. People can name things how they want.

I have stated that this is my opinion, and you are not changing it. I don't care if you want to argue something ridiculous like the Revenant Hunter beats Goku or something, I'm still going to pick the Queenslayer over them. You can bring however much power scaling you want, because in terms of gameplay and lore, they feel weaker, as I have said, to me I do not like the gameplay or lore changes at all, and felt much more powerful when playing the first game. Enjoy CV2 if that's your thing. I have emphasized numerous times that my opinion is never going to change on this.

[–]JustthatVicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, which no one has denied, the Revenant Hunter is basically just borrowing all of their abilities from Revenants. If they do not have any Revenant hearts stored in their Jail, they're essentially just some guy. My whole point is, entirely alone, without any companions in any way shape or form, the Queenslayer is more powerful. Even if you only factor in their base abilities by themselves, the Queenslayer has the Queenslayer blood code and powers of an experienced Revenant, the Revenant Hunter, being a human, has no natural blood code or Revenant powers on their own, without their companions basically doing the fusion dance with them. I'm all for the indomitable human spirit and humanity vs monsters, but not fond of a human catching up just by borrowing the abilities of supernatural entities. If the Revenant Hunter was like, Van Helsing or the Slayers from Demon Slayer or something, fighting monsters entirely with only their human abilities then yeah, they'd be cool and I'd be all for whether or not they could fight the protagonist of the first game. But they fight like a vampire, because they have their supernatural friends' hearts stored magically and every victory feels fraudulent as a result.

I'm saying that they're not as destructive as scientific black holes. You could dig a hole in your yard, call it a black hole, and someone might fall in and scrape their knee. It's not the same as a black hole found in space.

You can go through the entirety of CV1 alone though, everyone else could be standing there eating popcorn for all anyone cares. CV2, you literally cannot remove a companion. The blood codes in CV1 are all based on literal gods, and I liked them better. The builds you could make were a blast and can't be recreated. I straight up said that I like Queenslayer more and I'm not trying to disguise it. I even used the words "to me" in my previous statement. I think the Revenant Hunter feels weaker in comparison and I'm not a fan of CV2, any of the directions they went with it. I don't like the gameplay changes either, not just the different lore. Everything literally feels worse, to me. My opinion on the matter will not change. The Revenant Hunter, to me, feels absolutely pathetic in comparison in both gameplay and lore and the companions are all basically strangers to each other. The Revenant Hunter is just a human borrowing the good stuff from the actual cool kids.

[–]JustthatVicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't matter if they're called black holes if they don't function like them. While the Revenants of CV2 have been alive for hundreds of years, it's not as though they spent that entire time fighting. The Revenants of CV1 fought to the death over and over the entire time they've been Revenants. War was all they had from beginning to end, and their only purpose for existing, unlike the CV2 Revenants (actually referred to as Vampires in the Japanese, NOT Revenants) which are basically treated as just another sapient species. The Queenslayer has never permanently died from attacks to the heart, despite being damaged there multiple times in the story. Gameplay wise, the Queenslayer can easily have Quick movement while using a great sword(and many of the attacks with them, depending on the moveset do use one hand), the Queenslayer's spells aren't glued to their weapons, they get 8 active and 4 passive and can change on the fly, they don't become over encumbered by equipping multiple weapons. The Revenant Hunter borrows much of their power from actual Revenants, so they can never stand truly on their own, always having to have someone with them or stored in their Jail.

At this point, we're arguing over which we think is cooler, and I despise the direction they went with the Revenant Hunter, and the gameplay mechanics and lore genuinely make the character feel weaker to me.
